Letter of Appeal

The student appeals for a re-bracketing under the UPV STFAP from bracket E1 to E2. She explains that her father works as a pedicab driver and caretaker, earning Php 1,000 per month, while her mother is unemployed. They are also subject to vacating their rent-free home. Due to their financial situation, the family can hardly support her school-related expenses beyond tuition. Being placed in bracket E2 would help provide a stipend to cover these additional costs that are part of her university education.

Prof. Flordeliz B. Dacuyan OSA Coordinator Office of Student Affairs University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College

Dear Prof. Dacuyan; I am a 3rd year Management major student of UP Visayas Tacloban College who applied for the revised Alphabetic Bracketing Scheme (ABS) of the Socialized Tuition and Financial Assistance Program (STFAP), and I am writing to you to appeal for a re-bracketing of my bracket assignment for A.Y. 2010-2011. I feel that my current bracket assignment, bracket E1, does not give my situation the proper assessment that it truly deserves. My father earns his livelihood as a pedicab driver and a caretaker of a property with an allowance of Php 1,000.00 per month while my mother stays at home and has no means of livelihood making us exempted from filing and paying income taxes. Another, my family is now on a rent-free status and that we are subject for vacating our place of residency anytime. Because of this situation, my family could hardly support me financially with my schoolrelated expenses (e.g. field trip, buying of books, special projects, etc.). Though my family doesnt have to pay for the tuition fee, still, the said expenses would likely be unavoided for these are part of the universitys impartment of quality education and most especially that I am now taking my major subjects. Having a stipend, as in bracket E2, would surely be of great help in meeting these expenses. I appreciate the time that you have taken to read my appeal.

Sincerely,

Marianne Jane A. Solayao
