RISE UP:

EXT. Highway -Morning

CLOSE UP: GRASS

Dewdrops are still reminiscent on the green blades of grass.

The morning light strikes them, giving them a sort of
heavenly glow to them. In the background, there is the
unfocused movement of what seems to be a bird.

As it flounders around for a bit, the camera raises and

focuses on the bird. The bird is small and brown with a cream
colored underbelly. It takes off again, and succeeds.

LOW ANGLE: ELECTRICAL WIRES SIDE

The bird flies up and lands on the electrical wire. The sky
is a bright yet soft blue. It's clear out, although there are
still some fluffy clouds drifting. The small bird hops along
an electrical wire. It perches on a spot after a bit of
indecision.

In the background, a road is visible. It's clustered a bit by

some pine trees. A fence runs close to the side of it for a
bit before running off screen.

The engine of a car is heard, slowly getting closer. A car

appears around the corner of the road, a pale red car,
driving at a leisurely pace. It disappears off screen a bit.
The sound gets louder, and the bird jumps off of it's perch
and flies away

WIDE SHOT: CAR ON ROAD

The car is a slightly pale orangish red. It runs along the

road, the sun in the background. It passes by some trees.

As it passes by some trees, the camera comes closer to the

window, where we see the main character- Alex Miller. Alex
has short, slightly choppy hair. (See ref. Alex) She hums
along to a song. The background flies past as she drives.
Behind her, in the backseat, there are a few carboard boxes,
and a suitcase. The suitcase is red.

CLOSE UP: CAR RADIO

2.

The radio crackles a bit, and a local news station is

broadcasted.

ANCHOR MAN:
"This just in, rumor has it that a
mysterious drug cartel has been
dispersing a dangerous drug, known as
HHP-49. If you have information about
this, please contact XX-"

LOW ANGLE MIDSHOT: ALEX.

Alex momentarily glances down and her hand reaches to change

the station. She switches it, and static is heard. She huffs.

ALEX:
"Man, what's up with all the crime
podcasts now. I don't want my moving
day to be sad tragedy jeez. "

She shakes her head, and carries on driving. The music starts
up again.

STATIC WIDE SHOT: TIME MIDDAY.

Alex's red car is seen driving along a road towards a distant

city. The city is surrounded by suburban areas, which are
surrounded by grassy meadows and patches of trees. The center
of the distant city seems to consist of many skyscrapers.

WIDE SHOT: STALE SIGN

The camera shows a sign, saying "Welcome to Stale! Enjoy your

stay" It's placed along the highway, some bushes grow around
it as well. A few birds hop around it.

Alex's car drives by on the highway.

CLOSE UP: ALEX THROUGH WINDSHIELD

Alex is shown through the car's windshield. The city's

building are reflected on it. Through it you can see the
passing of building looming over the car.

WIDE SHOT: SKY

You can see how high the building go, as if they touched the
sky. They take up half of the skyline, with how massive they
are.

Alex pulls through the tall buildings, into a more suburban

area.

WIDE SHOT: CHESTER AVE.

Alex's car pulls up next to the curb. Along the curb, there
are also some other cars and trucks. Occasionally a car
passes by. Some people walk along the streets walking their
dogs. Alex's car stops, and after turning off the engine,
Alex climbs out. She closes the car door behind her and looks
up at a building

LOW ANGLE: APARTMENT COMPLEX. TIME AFTERNOON.

The building is made of brick, windows dispersed all over it.

The frames of the windows are black, some also appear to have
been personalized a bit. One could make out cutesy looking
curtains with bees. Another had flower pots lining the
windows. Some had towels hanging out to dry as well.

A voice cuts through Alex's daze.

VOICE:
"Hey you!"

MID SHOT:

Alex snaps over towards the source of the voice. In the

background, a man approaches Alex. He's tall and gruff
looking, and seems like he'd very much be able to punt Alex.
(see Steve ref.

MOVING MID SHOT: STEVE

The man walks over to Alex.

LANDLORD STEVE (THE VOICE):

"Hey there, you Alex Miller?"

Alex nods.

ALEX:
"Yeah? What's it to you?"

Steve shakes his head.

LANDLORD STEVE:
"No, I'm your landlord. You said you
were coming today."

ALEX:
"oh. I forgot about that, sorry."

LANDLORD STEVE:
"Just call me Steve, I'll show you to
your place- do you need help with your
things?"

ALEX:
"No I'm fine."

INT.WIDE SHOT: ALEX'S APARTMENT. MIDDAY

The room looks a bit dusty. A bit empty. A door is visible.

It's opened by a man.

MID LONG SIDE SHOT:

The man struts into the room, and Alex follows behind. Alex
carries two cardboard boxes with her, and drags along her
suitcase from the car. She sets them down on the floor as the
man turns to her.

LANDLORD STEVE:
"You'll be staying here. Last people
left some of their furniture. You're
free to use it."

ALEX:
"Thanks Steve."

LANDLORD STEVE:
"No problem kid. Here's your key."

Steve the Landlord tosses Alex a pair of keys. Alex raises

her hands up to her chest and catches the keys. Steve walks
out of the room, and calls out behind him.

LANDLORD STEVE:
"Rents due in a month!"

Steve shuts the door behind him, and Alex is left alone in
her room. Alex stands there for a bit, before the sound of a
phone is heard.

She scrambles a bit and pulls out her phone, dragging it out
of her pocket. It slips at her hand, and she with it a bit
before gaining a firm grasp on the phone.

CLOSE UP: PHONE

Someone was calling Alex. The ID reads, Aunt Abi. Alex groans
a bit, before clicking the call button.

MID SHOT: AUNT ABIGAIL.

Aunt Abigail is flipping through a newspaper, sitting on a

bright, tacky yellow couch with floral designs. Next to her
is a small coffee table with cookies on it.

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"Hey there birdie! I heard you got a
job in Stale now! How is it over there
in the big city?"

A SPLITSCREEN OF ALEX:

Alex is taking stuff out of boxes and putting them around the
apartment.

ALEX:
"I just got here Aunt Abigail."

Aunt Abigail grabs one of her cookies, and takes a bite of

it. Alex is moving a cabinet.

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"Ooh! Alex did you hear the news about
that popstar, Mariana Jones?
Apparently she-"

Aunt Abigail rambles on a bit, becoming a bit unintelligible.

Alex intervenes.

ALEX:
"Aunt Abigail I'm just gonna go now-"

Aunt Abigail hums and nods.

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"Okay dear, be careful though! I hear
there's a some things happening in the
city! Don't let anything happen to my
favorite birdie you hear?"

Alex smiles fondly.

ALEX:
"Auntie, I'll be fine. Nothing happens
in this city, it's called Stale after
all. Plus how am I your favorite when
I'm your only niece."

Aunt Abigail gasps dramatically, putting a hand over her

heart and feigning shock.

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"You know what I mean!"

Aunt Abigail sighs and smiles.

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"I don't have to worry so much do I?"

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"After all the only thing that's ever
really happened to you is that god
awful fashion sense."

Alex gasps in mock offense.

ALEX:
"Rude, my fashion sense is wonderful."

Aunt Abigail laughs.

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"I've got to go now, bye."

ALEX:
"Bye Aunt Abigail."

AUNT ABIGAIL:
"Have fun at your job!"

Aunt Abigail hangs up the call. The split screen of Aunt Alex
disappears. Alex looks around her apartment. It's
considerable less empty. Some decorations hangs about here
and there. There's an old couch left by previous owners that
was moved around. Through the windows shine the orangey
yellow light of the sunset.

Alex stretches her arms into the air. She sighs, dropping
them down to swing by her side.

She walks into a room, the room has a mattress on the floor
and some items scattered about. (See: Alex's room ref.)

She flops onto the mattress.

SUDDEN CUT TO AN ALARM CLOCK:

The alarm reads: 8:00 am. A hand slaps down on it turning it

off.

FLOOR HIGH ANGLE:

A blanket is thrown onto the floor, and after a moment, some

clothes as well.

MID SHOT:

Alex speeds over to the restroom, putting on a jacket. She

quickly brushes her teeth and heads back out. She's wearing
more formal wear. A skirt, a dress shirt, and a suit jacket.

CLOSE UP: A TINY TABLE THING

The table has some papers on it, but it's overall pretty
empty. However there is a set of car keys on it.

Alex's hand snatches the keys as she passes the camera.

EXT.WIDE SHOT: THE CURB. PARALLEL. LATE MORNING

Alex is stuffing something into a bag. The bag is a black

small purse. She rushes into the car, and turns it on.

She drives off down the road.

WIDE SHOT HIGH ANGLE:

Alex's red car pulls up into a parking lot. The lot is half
filled, and is next to a larger building.

MID LONG SHOT: ALEX

She scrambles out the car with her bag. She hurries into the
building.

INT.MID SHOT: OFFICE BUILDING. LATE MORNING

The inside of the building in sleek and clean. There's some

potted plants by the entrance, and by two elevators over at
the right. Near it is a stairwell. Some benches line the
walls. There's some modern art lining the walls, and a desk
center in the middle.

At the desk, a desk worker looks up at her, a tired and bored

stare.

8.

Alex fumbles a bit.

ALEX:
"Ah! Hello there Mrs. I'm Alex I'm
here for-"

The desk lady cuts her off.

JULIE PORTER:
"You the new person in the management
department?"

Alex blinks then sets off on an excited rant.

ALEX:
"Oh yeah I am how'd you know! My name
is Alex Miller and I'm so happy to be
here right now-"

Alex is cut off as desk lady drones on sarcastically.

JULIE PORTER:
"You're on floor 12, here's your card.
And my name is Julie Porter."

Alex is given an ID card. She fumbles a bit before looking at

it. There's a picture of her face and her information. Alex
looks up.

ALEX:
"Oh thank you!"

The desk lady looks up and scoffs, muttering to herself.

JULIE PORTER:
"I hate new people, that Clove wannabe
hero already made me miss the bus
ugh."

Desk lady simply goes back to her computer, looking a bit

annoyed. Alex scowls a bit, having heard her muttering, but
ultimately goes on with her day.

Alex heads over into the elevator. It closes and soft

elevator music fills the space.

ALEX:
"Geeze what's on her nerves today?"

ELEVATOR.

The elevator door opens. Alex steps off.

ZOOM TO WIDE SHOT OF THE OFFICE:

The office is filled with dull and stark colors. Soft,

greying blues and whites fill the area. People are all
bustling around with paperwork typing away at computers.
Stacks of paper reach the ceiling of the floor. To Alex, the
rows and rows of cubicles almost seem endless. People just
look miserable. Ironically a little happy cactus plant with a
face is stationed on a coffee table, accompanied by a sign
saying, "Live, Laugh, Love."

Alex stares at the cactus, and then at the seemingly endless

rows of cubicles. A bored, fat, little man in a suit walks
by. He turns to Alex, and speaks in a high, conceited voice.

MANAGER ABOTT:
"Oh? You must be the new paperwork
manager, I'm your boss, Jonathan
Abott. You're late."

He stares disapprovingly at Alex.

ALEX:
"Ah-Yes I'm sorry I got held up by
traffic and-"

Abott shushes her.

MANAGER ABOTT:
"Uh, uh, uh. No excuses. You're late.
Aisle 9, Cubicle 24. Now head along
now your work is waiting."

Alex nods, a bit stupefied, and hurries along to her cubicle.

She passes various people, glancing at them as she passes.
One person, a tall lanky man, is quietly sobbing at their
desk as they type on the computer. Another young woman
grumbles, eyebags clearly visible as she slumps over her
files. A bald man, a bit stocky in build is just passed out
on the table. Alex shivers a bit, regret starting to sink in.

WIDE SHOT?:CUBICLE 9.24

Finally, Alex reaches her cubicle. What greets her is an

empty desk with plain grey-blue walls, and a computer. She
sighs in relief, no work for her just yet. She sits down at
her desk.

Suddenly a stack of papers is dropped on the desk in front of

her. A rat-looking man with tiny spectacles looks at her, and

says, in a sad, high voice.

RAT-LIKE MAN:
"hey there, uh, these are the papers
you have to go through."

ALEX:
"Oh, uh thanks I guess?"

The man looks around nervously, and leans forward a bit,

saying in a hushed voice.

RAT-LIKE MAN:
"No need to thank me miss, but word of
advice, get out of this job while you
still can."

Suddenly, Manager Abott appears, booming.

MANAGER ABOTT:
"Westley! Get back here you're not on
break yet and these 500 reports won't
file themselves."

Westley, Rat-looking man, is startled.

WESTLEY:
"Yes sir!"

Westley hurries back to his station, back to subjected pain

and misery. Manager turns to Alex.

MANAGER ABOTT:
"Well? GO DO YOUR JOB NEWBIE!"

Alex yelps and shouts

ALEX:
"SIR YES SIR"

She very quickly gets to filing her reports.

Various shots of people placing things on Alex's desk as she

is clicking and typing things. A stack of paper grows higher.
Alex looks more tired. Finally Alex places a final sheet onto
a stack, pushing it away. She stretches and sighs in relief,
cheering in achievement. The camera zooms out, to reveal that
she is the last one in the office.

Alex looks a the time. 8:05 pm.

EXT. LONG SHOT: OFFICE BUILDING FRONT: EVENING

Alex busts out the door of the building, ready to go home in

her car. She steps out into the lot, when she notices her car
being towed away. The car is being towed away by a bright
orange truck, the side door labeled: Marty's Tow Service.

Alex shouts,

ALEX:
"Hey wait- my car!"

However Alex is much too late as the truck has already left
the parking lot. Alex drops her bag and screams in
frustration. Alex's hand grab at her hair as she does so.

CUT TO NEXT SCENE ABRUPTLY .

SCENE:

EXT. CITY STREETS IN THE RAIN. NIGHT

SHOT OF STREETLIGHT.

WIDE SHOT: ALEX

Alex sluggishly walks along the sidewalks, cars driving by

every so often.

The streets are a bit dim. Not very many people are walking
around so late at night. The concrete sidewalks have weeds
growing in them. A racoon digs through the trash.

Alex groans, cursing her bad luck. She throws her arms up in
the air in exasperation.

ALEX:
"Well, at the very least it's not
raining."

Right after she says that, a flash of lightning and the sound
of thunder is seen/heard. Then the rain pours down. Alex
muffles a scream of frustration.

ALEX:
"I should've grabbed a taxi ugh"

Alex kicks a rock, yelping in pain soon after. She hops on

her foot a bit. Alex hops on a puddle and slips falling into
the puddle, arms flailing. She hits the ground with and oomf.
Alex lies there, staring up at the sky.

HIGH SHOT MID LONG: ALEX

Alex groans, and looks up to the thundering sky.

SKY, ALEX POV:

The sky flashes with lightning as rain pitters down.

After a flash of lightning, a dark, obscured figure appears,

looming over Alex.

MID LONG SHOT: ALEX: FRONT

Alex yelps and quickly sits up and scrambles back a bit.

WIDE SHOT: ALEX AND FIGURE

Alex scrambles back and hits a light pole. She groans as her
head hits it. A few moments pass, before the figure steps
into the light. She squints at the figure, a bit fuzzy.

The figure is revealed to be a friendly looking person in a

trench coat and a fedora. They're carrying an umbrella. They
hold a hand out to Alex. They open their mouth, and speak
sweetly.

PROMETHEUS AGENT. A:
"Hello there, sorry to startle you.
Are you okay."

Alex blinks for a moment, staring at the person, but then

relaxes. SHe grabs their hand, and gets pulled up. Alex sways
a bit, wincing at her head. The person holds the umbrella so
that they were both covered. She takes a deep breath and
blurts out the first thing to come to her mind.

ALEX:
"Holy jesus, heck where did you come
from?"

The person laughs sheepishly, and rubs their neck.

PROMETHEUS AGENT. A:
"Ah, I was just walking around, you?"

Alex smiles, a bit strained. She felt a headache coming on.

The person looks at her, seeming concerned.

ALEX:
"Oh, I was just walking back home."

13.

PROMETHEUS AGENT. A:
"Do you need some help? It looks like
you hit your head there."

ALEX:
"No, no I'm fine."

Alex shakes her head, and hisses as it aggravates her

headache even more. She stumbles, but is caught by the
shoulders of the person.

PROMETHEUS AGENT. A:
"Careful there, do you need some
ibuprofen or something? You should
take some if you're gonna be getting
home yourself."

They hold out an inconspicuous pill to Alex, who for her

lightly concussed self, takes it gratefully.

ALEX:
"Thanks, headaches suck."

She squints a bit at the pill, a vague sense of suspicion and

unease overcoming her.

ALEX:
"This isn't drugs or something is it?"

The person shakes their head.

PROMETHEUS AGENT. A:
"Ey don't worry, this IS Stale after
all. Nothing ever happens here."

The last part comes out a bit forced. Alex examines the pill
again.

ALEX:
"Okay yeah, that's fair enough."

Alex downs the pill. Almost immediately her headache starts

to clear up, feeling less pain. She blinks and shakes her
head. She looks up to joke with the person.

ALEX:
"You sure this isn't drugs or
something? I've never had a headache
clear up this fast with a pill..."

14.

PROMETHEUS AGENT. A:
"Worry not vessel of Aphrodite, all
will fall in place soon."

Alex looks at the person, confused, on the verge of a

revelation.

Dark spots begin to dance in Alex's vision. She mutters to

herself.

ALEX:
"Goddammit it was drugs."

Alex falls, blacking out.

SCENE: UNFINISHED

THE VOID.

The screen is dark.

Alex appears, eye shown. Alex opens her eyes with a start,
sitting up in the vast emptiness. Alex is not of corporeal
appearance. She takes the appearance of a glowy outline.

WIDE SHOT:

Alex flips around, looking into the dark. She turns around a
bit.

ALEX:
"Hello? Is anyone out there?"

Something catches Alex's eye. It's a bird.

Alex stares at the bird, floating closer to it. Suddenly, it

flies off. Alex is startled by this, but then picks up after
the bird. She runs after the bird, and reaches out for it,
but it fades away. Alex stops running.

A figure stands behind Alex. She turns, stepping back. The

figure is impassive. They were a full face mask, with goggle
lenses staring back at Alex. They stand straight, upright, in
a suit of varying greys. The figure is tall and imposing.
They take a step towards Alex.

Alex takes a step back. They move forward again, and Alex
moves back. Alex's foot slips, and she screams a soundless
scream and she falls deeper into the void, the imposing
figure standing above her.

SCENE: UNFINISHED

INT.ALEX'S ROOM. LATE MORNING.

Alex opens her eyes and blinks, face to face with her wall.
She groans as she pushes herself upright in her bed.She turns
her head to face her room, when she sees movement in the
corner of her eye. Alex quickly swivels around, hitting her
head on the wall. She hisses, closing her eyes and calms
herself down. She opens her eyes again, pushing up in a
sitting position. Alex takes in her surroundings. She's in
her room, still about halfway through unpacking. Her coat,
blouse, and shoes are discarded in the corner, along with her
bag.

Alex's eyes take notice of an object on the mattress. It's a

feather. She picks it up in her hand. It's a pitch black
feather, large and glistening in the light pouring through
her window. One could see more feathers of similar design,
scattered among the fluffy, baby blue blankets of Alex's bed.

Alex's eyes follow the feathers, eventually looking up at a

mirror positioned against a wall facing her bed. She sees
herself in the mirror.

Alex's hair is messy. Her face is a bit pale. She's in a

cropped tank top. And behind her, is a large pair of wings.
They arc high over her, feathers a bit out of place, but
still grand nevertheless.

Alex stares at her reflection.

ALEX:
"What the f-"

She cuts herself off with a series of sneezes. Alex wheezes a

bit, catching her breath, hand on her wall for support.

ALEX:
"Oh-okay geeze, walking home in the
rain was not the best idea."

She looks at her reflection again, disbelief visible on her

face.

ALEX:
"This can't be real. This isn't real."

She puts her palms over her eyes and recoils into herself.

16.

ALEX:
"This is all just a really weird
dream. A really, self aware dream."

She flops back onto her mattress, wings getting slightly

crushed in the process. One wing hits the wall. Alex jolts,
wincing at the discomfort in wings.

ALEX:
"Ow, okay. Not a dream, not a dream."

Alex flips back into a sitting position. She rests her chin
on her hand as she stares at the mirror. Alex stays there for
some time, thinking. She suddenly sits upright, and says with
revelation.

ALEX:
"This is real."

Alex holds one of the feathers on her bed. She examines it in

awe. She pinches herself.

ALEX:
"Ow. Holy crap, this IS real."

Alex turns her head around, taking in the wings on her back.
She gazes in awe. Alex brings a hand up and runs it down one
of the wings.

ALEX:
"Oh my god. Oh my god."

Alex is brimming with excitement. She swivels her head, left

and right. She pushes herself off her bed and twirls in her
room, head turned back to look at the wings. Excitedly she
says:

ALEX:
"This is real- holy capoli I have
actual wings!"

Alex laughs, before coming to an abrupt stop with her

twirling, as the statement sinks into her.

ALEX:
"Oh my god, I have wings."

ALEX:
"How I am gonna go to work? Oh no- I
can't go into public ever again"

17.

Alex moans as she cradles her faces into her palms. She looks
up.

ALEX:
"My life is ruined."

Alex has a realization.

ALEX:
"Maybe I could- like hide them or
something. Yeah that'll work. Maybe I
just- stuff them into my shirt or
something."

Alex paces the room while saying this, and turns to her
closet. She throws the drawer open, and burrows her head in,
tossing clothes aside to the mattress and floor.

ALEX:
"Surely I have something,"

Alex shouts in victory after some time scavenging. She pulls

out a large yellow hoodie, a bit worn for wear. It looked as
if it had the name of a school of sorts on the back, but it's
faded and peeling off. On the front is a bird logo.

ALEX:
"I knew I should have kept this,
horrendous style my face Aunt
Abigail!"

Alex rolls over to the mirror leaned against the wall. She
shifts her back looking at the wings. Alex makes some
gestures, as if measuring something. She holds the sweater up
and goes to put it on.

SCENE: UNFINISHED

The sun beams down hard on the city. People stare as a figure
walks down the street in large, baggy clothes.

The figure is revealed to be Alex.

Suddenly, as she looks around, she notices a commotion down

in a nearby alleyway.

As Alex scrambles down to get a view of the situation, a

generic, buff looking mugger holds a knife and stalks towards
an increasingly frightened woman.. As they back up into the
alley, a shout is heard, along with the flapping of feathers.

ALEX:
"HA!"

The mugger turns to the sound, to only have feet planted in

his face. WIth their wings stifling the force of the impact
(to prevent fatalities) Alex lands on the mugger, knocking
them to the ground. She launches herself off of the mugger,
and onto a dumpster in the alley.

The woman, stands, mildly shocked, before regaining her

senses and running past and out of the alley. She came to
this city to lead a calm life, and did not want to be
involved in this disaster.

Alex is left alone with the mugger, poised on top of the

dumpster, as the mugger groans on the floor. As the mugger
gains coherency, they reach out for their knife, which is
promptly kicked away by Alex. They look up at Alex squinting
their eyes.

SAM THE MUGGER:

"Who the duc-"

Alex stands tall, looming over the mugger. The mugger squints
at them.

Suddenly, they have a realization. In light of this

realization, they very wisely decide to pass out.

Alex blinks at them.
