INTRODUCTION
Being exposed and familiar in conducting researches and writing
research papers is a must in this period of your study because when pursuing
a degree in the tertiary level nobody could have their diploma without
accomplishing one from proposal, data collection and defense with set of
panelists.
As a grade 12 student capstone project will not just become a
subject requirement for graduation but also a preparation for one of the most
used and could be one of the hardest academic activities you could encounter
before the completion of your chosen bachelor’s degree.
In writing a research paper, your critical thinking is very important.
Always answer the “whys” of every variable you are going to use. Always have
a strong related literature because this will be the backbone of your study.
Since research maybe challenging for majority, always prefer to study topics or
areas within your interest and capabilities, as an advice.
SUBJECT DESCRIPTION
In this course, students, under the guidance of a research adviser, will identify
a scientific, technological, or mathematical problem, design and apply an
appropriate methodology, formulate hypothesis, and draw conclusions based
on their investigation. At the end of the semester students will prepare a
scientific report/paper to be presented/defended in a forum.
SUBJECT GUIDELINES
A Capstone Project may be done by SHS learners under the Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The following guidelines
shall be observed:
a. The SHS learner may have the option to choose the topic related to
his/her specialization.
b. The SHS learner is encouraged to relate the project to home or
community issues, and to integrate these to outside-of-school learning
experiences. Hence, the project should encourage learners to think
critically, solve challenging problems, and develop skills that will prepare
them for college, work, and adult life.
c. The SHS learner must consider the following in crafting their research:
1. Deriving the research problem, which must be contextualized
according to the learners' current situation;
2. Reviewing related literature and/or studies;
3. Designing methods/ways of understanding;
4. Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data;
5. Reporting the findings
d. It should be clear to the SHS learners that the outputs would be limited to
what the learners and the school are equipped with, which may be different
from the research that they would like to do. It should be noted also that
they may be working on a limited support for conducting tests requiring
research centers.
e. The SHS learner must maintain a portfolio of findings or results, create a
final product demonstrating their learning acquisition or conclusions (a
paper, short film, or multimedia presentation, for example), and submit a
prerecorded video presentation or conduct a live online presentation on
the project to a panel of teachers, experts, and community members who
shall collectively evaluate the quality of the output submitted.
f. Here are some examples of capstone project ideas:
 Community-based projects
 Math investigation (e.g., providing and formulating theories) which is
basically more on library research
 Document analysis
 Robotics or ICT projects

WRITING THE CAPSTONE PROJECT PAPERS


ACTIVITY NO. 1: IDENTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM OR ISSUE
Through research many problems in the society could be answered with
sustainability, effectivity and efficiency. Given that statement, identify atleast three
(3) problems/issues that you want to resolve by conducting your capstone research.
The problems/issues maybe related to your experiences as a student or based on
your observations in different aspects of human daily life.

ACTIVITY NO. 2: WRITING THE CAPSTONE PROJECT TITLE &
INTRODUCTION
The introduction section tells the reader what problem your study is attempting to
solve. You can address the study’s significance and originality here as well.
Introduction composes different part such as nature and importance of the study of
the study, background of the study, objectives, statement of the problem,
hypotheses, significance of the study, scope and limitation and definition of terms.
Based on the some guides in this module, submit the introduction of your
APPROVED capstone topic.
Chapter I
THE INTRODUCTION
Nature and Importance of the Study
This section should include what the research is all about. It should
explain the importance of the problem and why the researcher did the work. It
should also contain findings of previous authors who experimented on problems
related to his work.

Background of the Study


This section should include what the research is all about. It should
explain why the researcher did the work.

Objectives
This should state what the researcher hoped to come up with or
accomplish. Evaluate, compare, characterize, determine, develop or recommend
are some of the useful terms in formulating the objective.
It is desirable to have a general objective if there are many studies all
leading to a common goal. The specific objectives would then refer to those of a
narrower scope of work.

Statement of the Problem


This should state what question or questions the researcher seeks to
answer or what he hopes to accomplish.

Hypotheses of the Study


The hypotheses are propositions tentatively assumed in order to draw
out consequences based on factual observations.

Significance of the Study


This part should explain the importance of the problem/study to its
intended beneficiaries and to other researchers who wish to venture on similar
studies.

Scope and Limitation of the Study


The coverage and limitations of the study should be clearly stated in this
section.

Definition of terms
This could be a sentence by itself or part of a sentence mentioned in
passing. This will ensure the readers to fully understand the paper.
