COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Fundamentals and advantages of Modeling and Simulation, types of models and Simulation , model
translation, Modeling complex systems, simulation languages, steps in simulation, model building
techniques, role of models in a study, simulation methodologies. Introduction to queuing systems,
queuing model of multi programming systems and network system.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Introduction to Modeling and Simulation. Fundamental and advantages of Modeling and Simulation.
Definition of terminologies used in modeling and simulation. Classification of models (Hybrid models,
Multi-scale modeling, and Conceptual modeling). Introduction to variety of Mathematical Models.
Mathematical model of Mechanical, electrical and biological system. Model of cardio-respiratory
system (model requirements, conceptual model), Model of circulatory system (model requirements,
conceptual and mathematical model), Model of respiratory system (model requirements,
multiple/conceptual/mathematical models), Physiological control modeling (model
requirements/conceptual/ mathematical models). Model building techniques, role of models in a study
such as electrical model of biological tissue (skin, muscles) and its implementation in electrical
impedance plethysomography. Simulation methodologies to study the effect of temperature on
implanted deep brain stimulation electrodes. Introduction to state space variable. Example of State
space equation and its relation with transfer function. Representation of fluid and biomedical system in
electrical component diagram using state space. Introduction to the software implementation of model.
Introduction to queuing systems.
