ROLE OF ICT

NOW, WHAT IT THE ROLE OF ICT IN TEACHING AND LEARNING? HOW

IMPORTANT ICT IS?
Information and communications technology (ICT) is an extensional term for
information technology (IT) that stresses the role of unified communications[1]
and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals)
and computers, as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage and
audiovisual, that enable users to access, store, transmit, understand and manipulate
information.
Ict is an extended term for which stresses the role of unified communication and
the integration of unified communication and the integration of telecommunication
computer as well as necessary enterprise software middleware storage and audio
visual systems which enable users to access store transmit and manipulate
information.the term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio visual
and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling all links
system.dirilis economic incentives to much the telephone Network with the
computer network system using a single unified system of cabling signal
distribution and Management. However,ICT has no universal definition as the
concept methods and application involved in ICT are constantly involving on an
almost daily basis. The brightness of ICT are constantly evolving on an almost
daily basis.
CT - What is it? • A good way to think about ICT is to consider all the uses of
digital technology that already exist to help individuals, businesses and
organisations use information. • The concepts, methods and applications involved
in ICT are constantly evolving on an almost daily basis. Its difficult to keep up
with the changes - they happen so fast • ICT covers any product that will store,
retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive information electronically in a digital
form. For example, personal computers, digital television, email, robots.

 Information technology (IT) that can help in coping with the information
explosion
 Information technology (IT) is the acquisition, processing, storage and
dissemination of vocal, pictorial, textual and numerical information by a
micro-electronics - based combination of computing and telecommunication.

Anything that renders data, information or perceived knowledge in any visual

format whatsoever, via any multimedia distribution mechanism, is considered part
of the domains space known as Information Technology • Communication
technology is the activity of designing and constructing and maintaining
communication systems.

 Spreading Digital Literacy

spread awareness about the Internet and create a demand for it, and teach
people to use devices and the digital medium so they can exploit their
potential once they have access
 Research and Development
Development of networks over the internet empowers indigenous research &
development (R&D) in developing countries  Existence of virtual research
groups allows databases and information to be shared  ICT enhances
North-South and South-South collaborations
 Access to variety of learning resources
Being a part of the technological age, IT is helpful as it provides plenty of
resources to advance the teaching skills and learning ability of learners. With
the aid of IT, it is easier to create different forms of teaching, for example;
audio visual education.
The resources for learning are being improved and expanded in such a way
that now with these vivid and vast techniques forming part of the IT
curriculum, students can now regard computers as tools to be used in almost
all aspects of their studies.
Learners are encouraged to make use of the newer multimedia technologies
to communicate ideas, describe projects, and order information in their
work.
 Immediacy to information
IT has provided immediacy to education in a way that the pace of importing
knowledge, from computers and web networks, are very fast and one can be
educated anywhere at any time.
Newer technologies are being introduced into well-established patterns of
working and living without drastically changing them. For example, the
traditional office, with secretaries working at keyboards and notes being
written on paper and manually exchanged, has remained remarkably stable,
even if personal computers have replaced typewriters
 Any time learning
 Multimedia approach to education
It provides a convenient way to keep track of the major events, themes, or
turning points of the lesson.
 Authentic and up to date information
It improved the student learning through self-paced learning and by
accessing them to wide range of up to date learning materials
 Online library
ICT makes library work easier, faster, cheaper and more effective. Helps to
manage information overload as information retrieval is made easier in
computerized systems. Computerization saves space and reduces paper.
 Distance Learning
Affordability and geography have been barriers to access  ICT has
enhanced the quality of distance education  Six largest Distance Learning
Universities are located in developing countries: Turkey, Indonesia, China,
India, Thailand and Korea  Distance Education facilitated by ICT has
mainly been applied to tertiary education  ICT has enabled cross-border
education

In global competitive era technology is the backbone of everything. By the

adoption of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) education became
much more effective than past. Researchers, academicians and industry
professionals have proved that ICT provide opportunities to all educational
participants to learn and excel. Across the world it is been accepted by the
educational planners that increased exposure of students to educational ICT
through curriculum integration has casted significant and highly productive
impact on their achievement. Its exposure improved their knowledge,
comprehension, practical skills, presentation skills and innovative
capabilities to a great extent. It empowered and enhances the ability,
adoptability, knowledge and surviving skills of students and of teachers. Its
instructional use improved the progress and development of faculty and
students alike. It optimized teachers delivery of information and adds value
to the processes of learning and the organization and management of
learning institutions. It improved the student learning through self-paced
learning and by accessing them to wide range of up to date learning
materials. It is facilitating educational participant to acquire and absorb
knowledge and increase academic productivity. It is helping nations to
enhance educational system beyond classrooms and reaching out to all sect
of society in common. It is playing outstanding role in formulating,
improvising and executing polices in social, economic, political and
educational sector and widening the range of opportunities for students,
teachers, industry and poor.

IMPORTANCE OF ICT

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a blanket term

encompassing all the technologies and services involved in computing, data
management, telecommunications provision, and the internet
These technologies all deal with the transmission and reception of information of
some kind. ICT permeates all aspects of life, providing newer, better, and quicker
ways for people to interact, network, seek help, gain access to information, and
learn.

ROLE OF ICT
ICT incorporates electronic technologies and techniques used to manage
information and knowledge, including information-handling tools used to produce,
store, process, distribute and exchange information.

Information and communication technology has made the world a global village in
terms of interconnections among people and institutions worldwide. It is the set of
technologies that enables the acquisition, production, storage, processing,
communication, registration and presentation of data in the form of voice, images
and data contained in signals. Nowadays, it is used for merging several
technologies having different sets of data and formats.
ICT aims at enhancing quality, performance and interactivities of urban services
while reducing cost and resource consumption. It needs some standards to be
followed on a global level. ETSI offers such ICT standard solutions. It provides an
ecosystem to understand, shape, drive and collaborate on standards applicable
across the industry for interoperability and security.

The classroom is now changing its look from the traditional one i. e. from one way
to two way communication. Now teachers as well as students participate in
classroom discussion. Now Education is based on child centric education. So the
teacher should prepare to cope up with different technology for using them in the
classroom for making teaching learning interested. For effective implementation of
certain student centric methodologies such as project-based learning which puts the
students in the role of active researches and technology becomes the appropriate
tool. ICT has enabled better and swifter communication; presentation of ideas
more effective and relevant way. It is an effective tool for information acquiring-
thus students are encouraged to look for information from multiple sources and
they are now more informed then before. So for this reason ICT is very much
necessary for Teacher Education

ICT enables self-paced learning through various tools such as assignment,

computer etc as a result of this the teaching learning enterprise has become more
productive and meaningful. ICT helps facilitate the transaction between producers
and users by keeping the students updated and enhancing teachers capacity and
ability fostering a live contact between the teacher and the student through e-mail,
chalk session, e-learning, web-based learning including internet, intranet, extranet,
CD-ROM, TV audio-videotape. Edusat technology has become very powerful
media for interactive participation of experts and learners and it reaches the
unreachable. Emerging learning Technology (ELT) of bogging, Integrated
Learning Modules, a pod cast, Wikis, Enhancement of Browsers, e-learning, M-
learning, U-learning have started making rapid strides in teaching learning
processes.

Teaching occupies an honorable position in the society. ICT helps the teacher to
update the new knowledge, skills to use the new digital tools and resources. By
using and acquire the knowledge of ICT, student teacher will become effective
teachers. ICT is one of the major factors for producing the rapid changes in our
society. It can change the nature of education and roles of students and teacher in
teaching learning process. Teachers in India now started using technology in the
class room. Laptops, LCD projector, Desktop, EDUCOM, Smart classes, Memory
sticks are becoming the common media for teacher education institutions. So we
should use information & communication Technology in Teacher Education in
21st Century as because now teachers only can create a bright future for students.
