Introduction to Tourism and Travel
The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people traveling to and staying in places outside
their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other
purposes". thus we can deduce the meaning of tourism as an activity. Tourism is viewed in various
perspectives which include: tourism as an industry, as a sector, as a service, as a phenomenon, as an
activity, as a business, art and science.
In phenomenal perspective, it is a thing so out of place in comparison with the rest of the economy
that it's almost hard-to-name.
Travel is motivated by various purposes

Forms of Tourism based on the purpose of visits

Leisure Tourism

Tourists may travel to experience a change in climate and place and learn
something new, enjoy pleasant scenery, or to know more about the culture
of a destination. Tourists, who seek break from the stress of day to day life,
devote their holiday to rest and relaxation, refresh themselves. These
tourists prefer to stay in some quiet and relaxed destination preferably at a
hill resort, beach resort or island resort. Nowadays tourists undertake
various adventure sports activities for leisure and to refresh themselves after
working hard.

Religious tourism
It is a form of tourism, where people travel individually or in groups for
pilgrimage. The world's largest form of mass religious tourism takes place at
the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Modern religious
tourists are more able to visit holy cities and holy sites around the world.
The most famous holy cities are Jerusalem, Mecca and Varanasi.
Family Tourism

Family tourism involves the family unit and their participation in diverse
forms of tourism activity. This includes visiting one’s relatives and friends
for interpersonal reasons. Many people in India travel for visiting their
friends and relatives. While visiting friends or relatives, people also visit
tourists’ attractions in and around the city.

Health Tourism
Health tourism is also called as Medical tourism. People have been travelling
for centuries to improve and rebuild their health and stamina. Today, many
people travel great distances to exotic locations or health care facilities in
faraway countries, in search of medical treatment and care. Medical tourism
is an age-old concept that has gained popularity in the recent times. Many
developing countries are emerging as hot medical tourism destinations
capitalizing on low cost advantages. Many hospitals have specially designed
packages including resorts facilities.
Sports Tourism

Refers to travel which involves either viewing or participating in a sporting

event staying apart from their usual environment. Sport tourism is a fast
growing sector of the global travel industry. Sports tourism refers to people
travelling to participate in a competitive sport event. Normally these kinds of
events are the motivators that attract visitors to visit the events like Olympic
Games, FIFA World Cup. Sports tourism can be adventurous also.
Adventure sport tourism is also called as Adventure tourism. Adventure
sport tourism is more challenging because it takes the tourists into regions
which are less frequently visited and may not have easy access.
Educational Tourism

Educational tourism developed, because of the growing popularity of

teaching and learning of knowledge and the enhancing of technical
competency outside of the classroom environment. In educational tourism,
the main focus of the tour visiting another country to learn about the
culture, such as in Student Exchange Programs and Study Tours,
organizing specialized lectures of the eminent personalities and for research
Business Tourism

The business traveler’s main motive for travel is work. Tourists visit a
particular destination for various reasons pertaining to his /her work such
as attending a business meeting, conferences, conventions selling products,
meeting clients. Business tourism is popularly called as MICE (Meetings,
incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism
Alternative forms of Tourism
Alternative tourism aims at seeking a change from impersonal, traditional
tourism to establishing cardinal rapport between visitors and the local
community. Instead of using touristic commodities these tourists prefer to
use or share the services of local people. The focus in these travels is the
preserved natural environment, authentic atmosphere and cuisine, and
local traditions. Alternative tourism is nowadays regarded as a key to
sustainable development.
Types of destinations

Smith (1997) categorises destinations into six types:

1. Ethnic destinations – places which promote ethnic and lifestyle of an indigenous

community e.g. dances, religion, ceremonies etc.

2. Cultural destinations – places which promote vanishing lifestyle e.g. local

settings, remote villages, and rural areas with activities like consuming local means,
undertaking costume festivals, folklore dances performances, art and craft
demonstration in old style fashion.

3. Historical destinations – areas which promote historical elements wit attractions

like old towns, churches, monuments, archaeological sites and museums and sound
and light performances done in the ancient way.

4. Environmental destinations – areas which promote natural and environmental

attractions e.g. national parks, mountain climbing, canoeing and camping etc.

5. Recreational destinations – are centers of sports like golf courses, tennis,

ski-slopes, pump-fringe beaches which promote games and social contacts in
relaxed environmental. Forms of tourism here are sports and beach tourism.

6. Business destinations – areas which promote trading, transactions and meeting,

SYSTEM ANALYSIS
FEASIBILITY STUDY
Feasibility study defines all the requirements to performance characteristics of
system. For system to be feasible, the design needs to undertake various
factors or performance requirements by which the system will be operated.

A feasibility study is short, focused study which aims at selecting the best
system that meets performance requirements. Information is gathered
regarding the general requirements of the proposed system.
If feasibility study is to serve as the decision document, it answers a number
of questions.

Like

➢ Is it beneficial?
➢ Does it save time and money?
➢ Can it be integrated with other systems already in place?

Planning resources is a very vast concept and we are beginners, thus including
each and every aspects of web, Integrate and automate them in every respect was
not feasible for us. Hence we perform feasibility study to make our project
compatible for present environment. The concept of Tour packages is newer. The
project is built with the help of Latest technologies . which is reliable and efficient
platform to work upon. This concept saves time.

Technical feasibility
Technical feasibility takes of the all the issues concerned with the design and the
development part of the project. It concerns itself with the software, hardware and
the platform related issues. The following are the technical specifications for our
project. The project would require a lot of space for storage of static as well as
dynamic content. As the number of project available increases the space required for
storing them increases.

Economic feasibility
★ It provides an efficient and reliable platform to work upon.
★ It saves time and is thus a faster means of management.
★ It is less costly than the other means of management.

Therefore, tour price varies depending on the type of air travel, air transfer,

When a travel agance includes the services of a well educated and trained tour

A hosted tour means when an agency utilizes the services of another agency at a

the employees.

Freedom Tours

Freedom tours are becoming very popular these days among the working class.
These tours are designed as per the choice of tourists. The tourist is free to choose
