What is the importance of global demography in contemporary world?

With the majority of developing countries facing population explosion, the study of
population and its problems has become very important in every sphere of an economy.
Demography presents population data in a systemic manner. Its importance could be gauged
from the growing application of population figures in several disciplines of study. Its importance
to the individual and society hardly requires any emphasis.
In the recent decades population is multiplying by leaps and bounds. This phenomenon is
having its impact in every sphere of life, more particularly in the social and economic life of the
society. Significance of demography in different fields could be treated as under:
For the Economy: The study of demography is of immense importance to an economy.
Population studies help us to know how far the growth rate of the economy is keeping pace with
the growth rate of population. If population is increasing at a faster rate, the pace of development
of the economy will be slow. The government can undertake appropriate measures to control the
growth of population and to accelerate the development of the economy.
For Society: Population studies have much importance for the society. When population
is increasing rapidly, the society is faced with innumerable problems. Shortages of basic services
like water, electricity, transport and communications, public health, education, etc. arise.
For Economic Planning: Data relating to the present trend in population growth help the
planners in formulating policies for the economic plan of the country. They are kept in view
while fixing targets of agricultural and industrial products, of social and basic services like
schools and other educational institutions, hospitals, houses, electricity, transport, etc.
For Administrators: Population studies are also useful for administrators who run the
government. In under-developed countries, almost all social and economic problems are
associated with the growth of population. The administrator has to tackle and find solutions to
the problems arising from the growth of population. They are migration and urbanisation which
lead to the coming up of shanty towns, pollution, drainage, water, electricity, transport, etc. in
cities.
These require improvement of environmental sanitation, removal of stagnant and polluted
water, slum clearance, better housing, efficient transport system, clean water supply, better
sewerage facilities, control of communicable diseases, provision of medical and health services,
especially in maternal and child welfare by opening health centres, opening of schools, etc.
For Political System: The knowledge of demography is of immense importance for a
democratic political system. It is on the basis of the census figures pertaining to different areas
that the demarcation of constituencies is done by the election commission of a country. The
addition to the number of voters after each election helps to find out how many have migrated
from other places and regions of the country.

What is the connection of global demography to globalization?

Since World War II, accelerating globalization has affected population dynamics in
several ways. The rapid diffusion of public health and contraceptive technology has improved
life expectancy and lowered fertility in most parts of the world. Yet at the same time,
international travel and migration have contributed to the global HIV/ AIDS epidemic and the
reemergence of other infectious diseases. More indirectly, economic growth stimulated by
globalization has improved standards of living with associated health benefits. Yet in some
places, economic growth has brought negative health consequences, for example related to urban
sprawl and dangerous levels of air pollution. The size, growth, and age structure of national
populations also affect globalization. Population change influences the movement of people,
products, and investment capital among countries. Favorable changes in population age structure
also have a positive influence on economic growth.

What is the aim and purpose of demography?

The scientific nature of demography proves the following four objectives of demography.
1. To achieve knowledge about the size, composition, organization and distribution of the
population.
2. To describe the past evolution present distribution and future changes in the population
of an area.
3. To enquire the trends of population and its relationships with the different aspects of
social organization in an area.
4. To protect the future demographic evaluation and its probable consequences.
Thus it is clear from the above four objectives of demography performs all the functions
and characteristics of a science such as enquiry of a cause and effect relationships also prediction
about the future. It uses scientific methods of observation and analysis. It is factual and universal.
It is a positive science and studies facts both qualitatively as well as quantitatively.

What are examples of global media culture?

Global Media Cultures delves into the interplay of media, culture, and globalization. The
course examines past and current issues in international communication, as well as the power of
media representation.

In a minimum of 150 words make an essay explaining the Negative effects of Global Media
to you and the people around you.
The media and its influential effect on the masses have increased exponentially in the
past five decades. Initially, the news and media channels were limited to the telegraph. The
technological inventions then found many channels to spread the news to the masses such as the
radio, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, and now mobile applications as well.
The negative effects of global media on society can lead people towards poverty, crime,
nudity, violence, bad mental and physical health disorders and others as such severe outcomes.
For example, mob hitting innocents by getting carried away from the rumors spread on the
internet has been common. These unauthorized news headlines are the biggest example of the
negative impact of mass media on society. Furthermore, the cases of children killing innocents
by acquiring weapons are considered as one of the major negative effects of global media on the
children as they usually get carried away by provoking news stories, action movies, and games.
