1. In your own words, explain the significance of the Rizal Law to the present time.

The Rizal Law, also known as Republic Act No. 1425, symbolizes and honors the role and
contributions of Jose Rizal in the attainment of our nation's freedom. Its significance to
the present time lies within the concepts and ideals of education, freedom, and
nationalism. In my own opinion, I think mandating all educational institutions to offer
courses about Jose Rizal is still significant, realistic, and relevant as of the present time
because Rizal's life, work, and writings are very good materials to foster patriotism and
nationalism among Filipinos. The main goal and significance of the Rizal Law is to
inculcate and bring out these values in the youth and Filipino citizens towards one goal,
which is cultural identification and economic development, which is timely and relevant
to our country today.

2. What do you think were the reasons why the Catholic Church strongly opposed the
Rizal Bill?

We may not be present during the time of Rizal to fully know and understand what
exactly happened to his life and why the Catholic Church strongly opposed the Rizal bill.
In the implementation of the bill, some arguments started about it in which some were
in favor of it and others against it. There are debates about whether the works and life
of Rizal are still acceptable and relevant to be taught in schools, and there are a number
of reasons why the Catholic church is against it. I think one reason why the Catholic
Church is against it is because Rizal's works, which are Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo, were written during the time when the Catholic Church and Friars were
villains. Another reason is that they were worried that it could cause confusion and
misinterpretation because the things and cases now were not the same as before. Most
importantly, the main reason why they are strongly opposed to it is that they claim that
the reading of Rizal's novel would violate freedom of conscience and religion.

3. Beside Rizal, who among the other Filipino Heroes are worth studyng? Give at least 2
and explain why.

Aside from Jose Rizal, there are some Filipino heroes that are worth studying and can
serve as role models for the youth and future generations to come. One of which is
Melchora Aquino, also known as Tandang Sora. Her bravery, determination, and selfless
work are truly an amazing story of life that is worth studying. She was known for risking
her life to provide food and nurse the katipuneros, and that made her worthy of the title
"Mother of the Revolution". Another notable Filipino hero whose life and contributions
are worth studying is Andres Bonifacio, who was once compared to Rizal and people
claim he could have been the national hero of the Philippines. Andres Bonifacio is one of
the heroes who changed Philippine history through his contribution to the Filipino
people and being the leader and father of the Philippine Revolution. His life taught the
values of perseverance, teamwork, and being a leader. His life and good deeds
exemplified the aspirations for nationhood and freedom for the nation's poor.
