3.RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

R&D is an important means for achieving future growth and maintaining a relevant product
in the market. There is a misconception that R&D is the domain of high tech technology
firms or the big pharmaceutical companies. In fact, most established consumer goods
companies dedicate a significant part of their resources towards developing new versions of
products or improving existing designs. However, where most other firms may only spend
less than 5 percent of their revenue on research, industries such as pharmaceutical, software
or high technology products need to spend significantly given the nature of their products.

3.1.2 MAKING THE R&D DECISION

Investment in R&D can be extensive and a long term commitment. Often, the required
knowledge already exists and can be acquired for a price. Before committing to investment in
R&D, a company needs to analyze whether it makes more sense to produce their own
knowledge base or acquire existing work. The influence of the following factors can help
make this decision.

Timing

Setting up a R&D wing only makes sense if the market growth rate is slow or relatively
moderate. In a fast paced environment, competitors may rush ahead before research has been
completed, making the entire process useless.

Risk

Because of its nature, R&D is not always a guaranteed success commercially. In this regard,
it may be desirable to acquire the required research to convert it into necessary marketable
products. There is significantly less risk in acquisition as there may be an opportunity to test
the technology out before formally purchasing anything.

Cost

Considering the long term potential success of a product, acquiring technology is less risky
but more costly than generating own research. This is because license fees or royalties may
need to be paid and there may even be an arrangement that requires payments tied to sales
figures and may continue for as long as the license period. There is also the danger of
geographical limitations or other restrictive caveats. In addition, if the technology changes

16
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

mid license, all the investment will become a sunk cost. Setting up R&D has its own costs
associated with it. There needs to be massive initial investment that leads to negative cash
flow for a long time. But it does protect the company from the rest of the limitations of
acquiring research. All these aspects need to be carefully assessed and a pros vs. cons
assessment needs to be conducted before the make or buy decision is finalized.

The initial pool of ideas is vast and may be generic. The team will then sift through these and
locate ideas with potential or those that do not have insurmountable limitations. At this point
the team may look into existing products and assess how original a new idea is and how well
it can be developed.

Develop Ideas

Once an idea has been thoroughly researched, it may be combined with a market survey to
assess market readiness. Ideas with true potential are once again narrowed down and the
process of turning research into a marketable commodity begins.

Prototypes and Trials

Researchers may work closely with product developers to understand and agree on how an
idea may be turned into a practical product. As the process iterates, the prototype complexity
may start to increase and issues such as mass production and sales tactics may begin to enter
the process.

Regulatory, Marketing & Product Development Activities

As the product takes shape, the process that began with R&D divides into relevant areas
necessary to bring the research product to the market. Regulatory aspects are assessed and
work begins to meet all the criteria for approvals and launch. The marketing function begins
developing strategies and preparing their materials while sales, pricing and distribution are
also planned for.

Launch

17
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

The product that started as a research question will now be ready for its biggest test, the
introduction to the market. The evaluation of the product continues at this stage and beyond,
eventually leading to possible re-designs if needed.
At any point in this process the idea may be abandoned. Its feasibility may be questioned or
the research may not reveal what the business hoped for. It is therefore important to analyze
each idea critically at every stage and not become emotionally invested in anything.

3.2 RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AT SANY

GATE 0: Marketing required

GATE 1: Benchmarking Cost analysis and feature required in product.

GATE 2: Prototype modeling, Testing and inspection, Report making and sign off.

GATE 3. Pilot production, vision of issue, Action plan and then R&D out.

MASS PRODUCTION

3.2.1SPECIAL R&D PROCESS

ECN: Engineering change notice.

An Engineering Change Notice (ECN) is a document authorizing and recording design

changes throughout the prototyping and life-cycle phases of a product.

PDM: Product data management.

Product data management (PDM) or Product information management (PIM) is the

business function often within product lifecycle management (PLM) that is responsible for
the management and publication of product data. In software engineering, this is known as
version control.

4.0 PROJECT OF BATCHING PLANT

18
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

A concrete plant, also known as a batch plant or batching plant or a concrete batching plant,
is equipment that combines various ingredients to form concrete. Some of these inputs
include water, air, admixtures, sand, aggregate (rocks, gravel, etc.), fly ash, silica fume, slag,
and cement.

SANY batching plant features by high quality, high efficiency, ease of operation and

high profit. For the concrete mixing plant, SANY provides full set of solutions to customers
include installing , training ,operation guidance, maintenance and financing. If you purchase
SANY concrete mixing plant, the professionals and technicians with plenty of experience are
always at your service.

4.1 Three Main Parts of Concrete Batch Plant

The principle of PLD Concrete Batch Plant:

When the plant starts working, conveyor belt will convey the materials of the hopper until the
conveyor belt stops. Then under the control of the control instrument, it will batch the
materials in turn. When finishing, the control instrument will start the conveyor belt to
convey batching materials to next link.

PLD Concrete Batch Plant is composed of feeding system, weighing system and electric
control system.

1. Feeding system: feeding system is composed of storage hopper and feeding device. The
feeding system of Concrete Batch Plant is to feed materials into weighing hopper under the
control of electric control system.

2. Weighing system: it is the main part of Concrete Batch Plant, and consists of weighing
hopper, suspension devices, sensors weighing system and batching controller.

19
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

3. The electric control system of concrete batching plant is regards as the core of the whole
equipment. Only a small problem can result to the machine stop running and delay the
construction period.

1. MIXER:

20
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

The SANY mixer with two horizontal shafts is independently developed for the high
efficiency concrete mixing equipment. This mixer is capable to produce the high quality
concrete in the shortest time. The mixing takes only 25 seconds. With the internationally
prevalent planetary gear reducer drive, the mixer presents better mixing ability, even and fast
mixing and extraordinarily high productivity. The mixer concentrates four patent
technologies, namely the malfunction diagnosis device for shaft end seal, the detection and
warning device for motor temperature, the detection and warning device for lubricating oil
temperature inside reducer and the safety device for overhaul door. Developed on the basis of
the research achievements regarding hydrodynamics and tribology, the mixing arm and the
mixing blade bear excellent mixing quality and efficiency. After a 12-second mixing, the
homogeneity of concrete reaches 85%, and it will rise to 95% in another 12- second mixing.
Special reducer of world-famous brand is adopted and featured by high reliability, long
service life, large transfer torque and outstanding power performance.
The world-renowned electric centralized instant control lubrication pump ensures the shaft
end seals filled with grease; meanwhile, 4 shaft end seals are equipped with a manual oil
filling point. The digital control processing center assures the coaxiality of the two bearing
holes of mixing tank, so that the shaft end seals are dependable. The equipment is in the
nature of low noise and low energy consumption. Made of the anti wear high chromium cast
iron and processed through the special heat treatment, the liner plate and mixing blade have
the extra long life to withstand over 60,000 tank ·times of mixing. Multiple protections on
shaft end seals efficaciously prevent leakage of concrete. The pneumatic door bears obvious
advantages, such as compact in structure, quicker than hydraulic door, free of leakage and
pollution, and centralized and convenient for maintenance. Besides, the manual discharge
door is set against unexpected electricity cutoff.

2. FEEDING SYSTEM

21
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

The various types of aggregate feeding systems for batching plants of different design and
manufacturers:

Aggregate feeder with rotary chute arrangement for compartment batchers, radial

conveyors and shuttle conveyors for in-line type aggregate storage bins are some of them.
Quality and branded bought out items like, motors, gearboxes, rubber belts are key to hassle
free operations of the products.

AGGREGATE BELT CONVEYOR : The cleaner scraper plate is made of high anti-wear
polymer material, with desirable cleaning effect and long service life. The suspension carrier
roller with automatic aligning function and the counterweighted take-up with constant tension
force are adopted, making easy adjustment for belt conveyer. The frame is designed into
standard segments, easy for installation, manufacture and conveying. The belt conveyer is
sealed with hood so as to abate pollution to environment; And the overhaul aisle and safety
armrest are equipped to facile it at etheroutine maintenance. The adjusting striker plate at
tail of the inclined belt availably regulates the fall point of aggregate and prevents deviated
running of belt Pre-designed and bolted structures enable faster erections and dismantling of
the systems. Choice of different inclinations and belt widths offers various models suitable
from 30 m3 to 160 m3 capacity batching plants.

INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

3. WEIGHING SYSTEM

1. LOAD CELL: A load cell is a transducer that is used to create an electrical

signal whose magnitude is directly proportional to the force being measured. The various
load cell types include hydraulic, pneumatic, and strain gauge.

1.

a) STRAIN GAUGE: Strain gauge load cells are the most common in industry. These
load cells are particularly stiff, have very good resonance values, and tend to have
long life cycles in application. Strain gauge load cells work on the principle that
the strain gauge (a planar resistor) deforms when the material of the load cells
deforms appropriately. Deformation of the strain gauge changes its electrical
resistance, by an amount that is proportional to the strain. The change in resistance of
the strain gauge provides an electrical value change that is calibrated to the load
placed on the load cell.

A load cell usually consists of four strain gauges in a Wheatstone

bridge configuration. Load cells of one strain gauge (quarter bridge) or two strain
gauges (half bridge) are also available. The electrical signal output is typically in the
order of a few millivolts (mV) and requires amplification by an instrumentation
amplifier before it can be used. The output of the transducer can be scaled to calculate
the force applied to the transducer. Sometimes a high resolution ADC, typically 24-
bit, can be used directly.

b) PIEZOELECTRIC CELL: Piezoelectric load cells work on the same principle of

deformation as the strain gauge load cells, but a voltage output is generated by the
basic piezoelectric material - proportional to the deformation of load cell. Useful for

23
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

dynamic/frequent measurements of force. Most applications for piezo-based load cells

are in the dynamic loading conditions, where strain gauge load cells can fail with high
dynamic loading cycles. It must be remembered that the piezoelectric effect is
dynamic, that is, the electrical output of a gauge is an impulse function and is not
static. The voltage output is only useful when the strain is changing and does not
measure static values.
However, depending on conditioning system used, "quasi static" operation can
be done. Using a so-called "Charge amplifier " with "Long" time constant allow
accurate measurement lasting many hours for large loads to many minutes for small
loads. Another advantage of Piezoelectric load cell, conditioned with a Charge
amplifier, is the wide measuring range that can be achieved. Users can choose a load
cell with a range of hundred of kN and use it for measuring few N of forces with the
same Signal/Noise ratio, again this is possible only with the use of a "Charge
amplifier" conditioning.

c) HYDRAULIC LOAD CELL: The hydraulic load cell uses a conventional piston and
cylinder arrangement with the piston placed in a thin elastic diaphragm. The piston
doesn't actually come in contact with the load cell. Mechanical stops are placed to
prevent over strain of the diaphragm when the loads exceed certain limit. The load
cell is completely filled with oil. When the load is applied on the piston, the
movement of the piston and the diaphragm results in an increase of oil pressure. This
pressure is then transmitted to a hydraulic pressure gauge via a high pressure hose.
The gauge's Bourdon tube senses the pressure and registers it on the dial. Because this
sensor has no electrical components, it is ideal for use in hazardous areas. Typical
hydraulic load cell applications include tank, bin, and hopper weighing. By example,
a hydraulic load cell is immune to transient voltages (lightning) so these type of load
cells might be a more effective device in outdoor environments. This technology is
more expensive than other types of load cells. It is a more costly technology and thus
cannot effectively compete on a cost of purchase basis.
d) PNEUMATIC LOAD CELL: The Load cell is designed to automatically regulate the
balancing pressure. Air pressure is applied to one end of the diaphragm and it escapes
through the nozzle placed at the bottom of the load cell. A pressure gauge is attached with
the load cell to measure the pressure inside the cell. The deflection of the diaphragm
affects the airflow through the nozzle as well as the pressure inside the chamber.

3. ELECTRICAL CONTROL SYSTEM

SANY electric control system takes the form of IPC (Industrial Personal Computer) + PLC +
batching end instruments, which embodies the trait of distributed system that divides work
among different sections. The IPC is used for simulation monitoring of production process
and management of production information and data; the PLC is responsible for logic
control; the batching end instruments are in charge of each balance's batching and
discharging task. The advantage of the modular structure lies in that each section can apply
high quality product, which favors the stable and reliable operation of system. In case that the
IPC fails, the PLC and the batching end instruments are still capable to finish the automatic

4.2.1. WORK STUDY

In Our project we have done some work study before new dispatch packing list. We have
done analysis about have much time workers required for finding parts. After calculating that,
we have started taking photos of parts.

By using work study data we have prepared new dispatch packing list. After circulating
sbp30 list to production department, it is observed that workers time has been reduced for
finding parts.

4.2.2.Future scope

1. Project is helpful for new workers.

2. This reduces workers time. We can utilize that time to other ways.

3. Reduces unnecessary work.

4.2.3. Feedback from Workers

After circulating SBP30 packaging list we have observe that it is working or not. After
observing for 2-3 days and interacting with workers we found that it is time reducing and
helpful for workers.

We have taken some feedback from workers for some modification in dispatch list.

4.2.4. Modifications
After getting feedback from workers following are some modifications to be done-

1. Some images are blur.

2. All photos are not covered.

4.2.5.Calculations of SBP30-
1) The total load on the structure is calculated as:

M=Weight of an aggregate weight hopper (M1)+Weight of aggregates (M2)+conveyor

(M3)

M1=weight of aggregate bin structure/2

M2 = capacity of aggregate bin(c) * density of aggregate (d) * 4

M3 = All conveying system parts

For analysis of single aggregate bin, we have to calculate loading conditions for a single bin,
so:

Total load on single aggregate bin, Ma= M/4

2) Uniformly Distributed Load:

The load will be distributed over the span of beams and the maximum stress will be
induced in the shortest beam of the rectangular frame.
The short beams will be responsible for the half of the load.
So, the load acting on the short beam is:
Ms = Ma= M/4
Therefore UDL on the beam is = Load/length
UDL = M/(4*Ls*2)

3) The cross section for the structure is hollow rectangle:

Outer length = H Inner length = h
Outer width = B Inner width = b
Distance of farthest point from the axis = y = H/2
Cross Section,A = (B*H)-(b*h)

Moment of inertia, I = (BH3-bh3)/12

4) Radius of gyration:
R = √((BH3-bh3)/12/BH-bh)

5) Reactions at columns, Rc :
Each column is supporting 2 beams at a time, so it will be loaded with the half of the load
that is transferred from short and long beam.
Rc = UDL*(Length of a long beam + Length of a short beam)/2
= UDL*(Ll+Ls)/2

6) Bending moment acting on the beam:

The beam will experience maximum bending moment at its center and minimum, i.e.
zero, at its both ends.

31
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SANY, INDIA.
INTERNSHIP REPORT SANY INDIA

Mb = UDL*(Ls)2/8

7) Bending stress:
So, the bending moment will produce bending stresses on the beam
σb = Mb*y/I

8) Shear force:
The beam will experience a shear force acting on the cross section,
Fs = UDL*Ls

9) Shear stress:
The shear stress acting on the beam due to uniformly distributed load is
τ = (3*Shear force on beam)/(2*Cross section)
= (3* Fs) / (2*A)

10) Buckling load:

The buckling load is responsible for the buckling failure of the columns. So, the buckling
load of short column, using Rankin’s formula, is
B = (fc*A)/(1+(1/7500*(1/R)2))
Where, fc= Yeild strength/factor of safety
=Syt/Fs

11) Compressive stresses in column:

The vertical reactions at the support of beam will induce compressive stresses in the
columns,
Fc = Reaction on beam/Area
= Rc/A

12) Deflection in beam:

The bending moment will cause a deflection in the beam at the center,
δ = (5*UDL*Length2)/(384*Modulus of elasticity*Inertia)
=(5* UDL*Length2)/(384*E*I)

13) Deformation of column:

The compressive stresses induced in the column will tend to compress it, and hence the
deformation will occur in the respective column.
Δ = (Reaction at column*length)/(Cross section*Modulus of elasticity)
= (Fc*L)/(A*E)

14) The yield strength (Syt) and tensile strength (Sut) values are obtained from the Indian
standard material charts.

15) The factor of safety (Fs) is considered according to the industry requirements.
