4.3 Chequer Plate Design

The document is a calculation sheet for designing chequer plate. It calculates the loads, bending moment, shear force, section modulus, bending stress, and shear stress for a chequer plate with a 5mm thickness and 1.5m span to support a uniform distributed load of 6.3kN/m. The results show the bending stress of 246MPa and shear stress of 1MPa are less than the allowed limits of 275MPa and 75MPa, respectively, indicating the design is sufficient.

Chequer Plate Design

Assume the plant and equipment load directly on the beams, not takend by chequer plate
From Section 4.1, ULS load = 22.30 - 10 x 1.6 = 6.3 kPa

load width (per meter width ) b = 1000 mm

plate thickness d = 5 mm

UDL = 6.3 kN/m

Span (max.) = = 1.5 m

(assume one-way slabs)
2
Factored moment= 6.3 x 1.5 / 8 = 1.77 kNm

Factored shear= 6.3 x 1.5 / 2 = 4.73 kN

Sx = bd^2/6 * 1.2= 1000 x 6 ^2 / 6 * 1.2 = 7200 mm3

Bending stress = 1.77 x 10^6 / 7200 = 246 MPa

< 275 MPa
OK!
Shear stress = 4.73 x 10^3 / ( 1000 x 6 ) = 1 MPa
< 75 MPa
OK!
