PROCEDURES
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Review
Ask the pupils what they know about nouns and pronouns.
Say: A noun is what we call the word that names a something someone. A noun may be a
person, a thing, a place, or an event. A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun to avoid
repetition.
Example:

Robert decided to sleep. He has always enjoyed taking long


naps.

Say: In the example given, the noun is Robert and the pronoun that replaced the noun is
He.
Now, it’s your turn. Try to identify the correct pronoun that should replace the nouns.
Choose your answer from the given choices.

Say: Well-done learner! You are ready to move to the next part now. Keep going. At the
end of your quest, you will be able to identify and use personal pronouns in sentences. I
have here a paragraph. Let us read and analyze it.

Arnel’s father is a fisherman. Sometimes, he helps him catch fish in the


sea. One day, while they were fishing in the vast ocean, they came across a
pod of dolphins. The sea creatures were happily playing with each other in
the water. One of them even swam near their boat and let Arnel touch its
head. Arnel was indeed happy with his experience that day. He hopes to see
his sea friends again.

Say: Today we will be learning about personal pronouns.

Ask: Did you notice the italicized words in the story? Have you met them before?

Say: The italicized words are called personal pronouns. What are personal pronouns?

Personal pronouns are used to substitute the names of people, places, animals, or
things.
Here are some common personal pronouns:

Examples:

Maria is a grade four student at Lavezares Central Elementary School. She is a


consistent honor student.
Say: In this sentence, the personal pronoun used is “she”. It replaced the noun Maria.

The Dela Cruz family went to Bani Island last weekend. They had so much on the
beach.
Say: In this sentence, the personal pronoun used is “they”. It replaced the noun Dela Cruz family.

Say: Personal pronouns can be divided into singular and plural categories depending on the
number of items they refer to. They can also be divided into first, second, and third person points
of view.

Say: Women often have to work twice as hard as men to achieve the same level of
success. Sadly, their endeavor is often overlooked. Remember, a hard working woman is a
sight to behold. She is fierce, passionate, courageous, and resilient all the same time. On
your notebook, write two sentences that you think defines a hardworking woman. use
personal pronouns.
