Quarter I – Week 4
Subject Area: Specialized Subject 1
Introduction to Electrical Installation and Maintenance

I. Lesson 7: Power and Pneumatic Tools

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to;
1. Identify types of power and pneumatic tools.
2. Determine the function of different power and pneumatic tools.

II. Module Overview:

Tools manipulated by our hands and with the use of electrical energy are what
we called power tools. In this lesson, we will discuss the types and the functions of
power and pneumatic tools.

III. Lesson Content:

Types of Power Tools

1. Portable Electric Drill

 It has a chuck has jaws that can be opened and then closed
to grip a drill kit. small hand-held, motor-driven drilling
machine with a chuck capacity of ¼" to 3/8"
 Used in boring holes on metal sheets and concrete walls

2. Portable Grinder
 Grind excess metal from welds, remove rust, and for special
finishing operations around the work area.
 A lightweight, hand-operated machine tool used in the field
or maintenance shop

3. Circular Saw
 Cutting long and heavy timber in a large structure during
wiring jobs
 An electric saw that is portable operated with a hand grip

Type of Pneumatic Tools

These are tools powered by compressed air.

1. Pneumatic Torque Wrench

 Uses compressed air to quickly and powerfully turn nuts,
bolts, and other objects

2. Air Chisel
 Carve in stone, and to break or cut metal objects apart

3. Air Ratchet
 Wrench that is powered by other means than human force
 Air motor is attached to turn the socket drive
4. Air Drill
 Driven by the elastic pressure of condensed air
 This tool belong to boring tools

5. Pneumatic Floor Jack

 Compressed air to flow into the jack cylinder and causes the
ram to extend and raise the vehicle

I. Lesson 8: Prepare Electrical Tools and Equipment

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to;
1. Identify basic maintenance of electrical tools and equipment.

II. Module Overview:

A good routine of maintenance for your tools is one thing that you can do to
make sure that the tool you need is working when you need it. In this lesson, we will
discuss the basic maintenance of tools and equipment.

III. Lesson Content:

Maintaining the functionality of tools and equipment makes our tools long last for how
many years.
Basic maintenance of electrical tools and equipment
1. Clean out the Dust
 Keep them clean and free of dust
 To make sure that your electric tools are ready to go
when you are
 Spend some time to clean out the dust every once in a
while on your tools while they are inactive in storage

2. Check the Cords

 Look for tear/cut insulator on the power cords on your
electric tools
 This will ensure that your electric tool can get the
power that it needs to function without an accident.

3. Use the right tool correctly

 Use tools correctly and for their intended purposes
 use approved tools with insulated handles

4. Protect your Tools

 Keep tools and cords away from heat, oil, and sharp
objects
 These hazards can damage insulation
 If a tool or cord heats up, stop using it
 Report the condition to a supervisor or instructor
immediately.

5. Use double-insulated tools

 Use high voltage resistance insulated tools for circuit
work
 Portable electrical tools are classified by the number of
insulation barriers between the electrical conductors in
the tool and the worker

6. Storing Your Tools

 Keep your electric tools stored in their original cases
and containers
 This will keep them free of dust and dirt while they are
not being used

7. Keep Your Tools Dry

 Put your tools away, make sure they're located in a dry
space, away from excessive heat or cold
 This will keep them free of dust and dirt while they are
not being used.

8. Keep the Manual Handy

 Always secure your manufacturer’s manual for
recommended maintenance of tools
 This will keep them free of dust and dirt while they are
not being used

9. Maintain a Sharp Blade

 Keep the blades on your power tools sharp and clean
