Mobile Based Dwell Time Management System Using Iot

This document summarizes a team's proposal for improving airport operations using Internet of Things technologies. The team aims to track passengers and baggage in real-time, use millimeter wave scanners to improve security screening, and develop a mobile app to provide alerts and navigation assistance to passengers and staff. The proposed technologies include RFID, beacons, and a hardware component for explosive detection. The team believes these IoT solutions can enhance the travel experience, improve productivity and safety, and help address problems like lost baggage and flight delays.

 Predicting capacity demands.
 Providing enhanced travel experience.
 Improving the operational process.
 Improving staff productivity.
 Ensuring safety and security & much more.

2
A. Passenger Tracking
 IoT is a powerful force in airports that can sort out the complexities of passenger management.
Use of biometric systems, laced with in-built tracking mechanism, streamline passenger tracking
and help airports monitor the real-time passenger footfall. Moreover, IoT can be used to develop
systems that can spot passengers through their gate.
 The IoT adoption across airports, is going to remove the age-old hassles, such as frustrating
delays, waiting times in the queues, and annoying security checks.
B. Baggage Tracking
 The problem of lost baggage has long done a disservice to the airports’ reputation in general.
However, with IoT beacon technology and its ongoing connectivity, finding lost baggage is
incredibly easy. These beacons integrate with the airport’s cellular network and monitor baggage
location in real-time across all touch points. This allows passengers to track their belongings, right
from check-in to boarding the flight & then the final destination, which is instrumental in reducing
the lost baggage counts.
 Baggage tracking using RFID. Once the RFID tag is placed on the luggage, it gives the details of
the owner at the boarding as well as the destination.
C. Millimeter wave scanner
• Millimeter wave imaging currently uses radio waves in the frequency range of 24-30 gigahertz
3
(GHz).
• Automotive radar for collision avoidance is a major current application of millimeter wave
technology. Strong continuing growth in this market is expected as vehicles become increasingly
autonomous.
D. Airline Staff
Diversifying IoT implementation across airports can drive real business value for enterprises.
E. Alerts
Since most airports stretch across a huge land mass, it’s almost puzzling to find the right entry and exit points,
and more so when a passenger is late for a flight that’s about to take off.
