IoT Lab-18CS81-VIII Sem (VTU)

This document provides information about experiments for an IoT lab course. It outlines that the coursework will be assessed with 20 marks for in-class tests and 20 marks for practical assessments, and students must maintain reports for verification. It then lists several possible practical experiments involving communication protocols, sensors, and networking.

Mandatory Note( From VTU):

Distribution of CIE Marks is a follows (Total 40 Marks):

• 20 Marks through IA Tests
• 20 Marks through practical assessment
Maintain a copy of the report for verification during LIC visit.

Possible list of practical’s:

1. Transmit a string using UART

2. Point-to-Point communication of two Motes over the radio frequency.
3. Multi-point to single point communication of Motes over the radio frequency.
LAN (Subnetting).

SST-Node MCU Project Board

SPECIFICATIONS:
Let me introduce you to the electrifying Plug-and-Play IoT board! It’s easy to use and set up, has
fast development and focuses on programming and understanding the concepts better. It’s a great
start for beginners as well as very handy for building advanced projects. It requires no electrical
connections or the use of messy wires. Its modular nature is best suited for teaching students and
getting them interested in hands-on experience and for hobbyists as well!

This IoT board has an inbuilt LDR to measure Light intensity, a relay to control AC appliances;
an integrated motor driver to drive two DC motors. The board also has pins for DHT sensor to
measure temperature and humidity, 16x2 LCD or 128x32 OLED display, servo and it has
NodeMCU which supports Wi-Fi and the board also supports HC-05 Bluetooth module. It also
has an SD card module to store sensor data. You can simply plug the required sensor and play with
it or use the board to build wonderful projects!
Various Electronic, Embedded systems, IoT and Robotics based projects are supported by the
board. A beginner can learn simple electronic projects like detecting the presence of light with
LDR or learn about the Basics of GPIO and start their journey on Embedded systems. Learn how
to use UART, I2C, SPI interfacing with sensors and develop IoT based projects like Temperature
and humidity monitoring, Home Monitoring or Home Automation or Smart Home, Smart
Irrigation or Cloud-related projects. Once they have a good hold on basics, one can move on to
challenging Robotic projects like Robotic cars, Bluetooth controlled cars, Line following bot, Edge
detection bot and Obstacle avoiding bots.

Not only this, the board can also be used with SPI sensors like:

BMP280 Barometric Pressure and temperature sensor which is a small sensor that measures the
weight of the air and temperature SparkFun Triad Spectroscopy Sensor which is a powerful optical
inspection sensor Maxbotix MB1040 LV-MaxSonar-EZ4 Ultrasonic Sensor Sonar Module which
is used for detecting large objects using ultrasonic Sonar radiation SparkFun IR Thermometer
Evaluation Board - MLX90614 is a very powerful single-zone infrared thermometer, capable of
sensing object temperatures between -70 and 380°C.

The I2C enabled sensors are:

 Differential Pressure sensor SDP611 measures the pressure of air and non-aggressive
gases with great accuracy.
 IR Temperature Sensor MLX90614 is an infrared thermometer for non-contact
temperature measurements.
 Temperature and Humidity Sensor SHT3x measures temperature, and humidity and many
other functionalities.
 Accelerometer and Compass Module from Adafruit 10DoF IMU Breakout LSM303
board allows you to capture ten distinct types of motion or orientation related data.
 RGB colour Sensor TCS34725 this sensor detects colours in its surrounding environment
and provides a digital return of red, green, blue (RGB) values.
 Gyroscope L3GD20H is a low-power three-axis angular rate sensor.
 ToF Range Finder Sensor VL6180X is a distance measuring sensor that gives a precise
output.
 Ultrasonic Range Finder Sensor SRF02 is able to detect the transducer ring time and
move its detection threshold right up to it, giving the SRF02 the very best performance
possible
 .Digital I/O Expander SX1509 with just two wires, your microcontroller can interface
with 16 fully configurable digital input/output pins.

The projects that can be built using this board are boundless. Get your hands on it today!
