Learning Objectives
At the end of this module, you are expected to:
1. examine the steps in personal decision-making;
2. practice sound decision-making; and
3. decide an appropriate action on issues relevant to yourself and others.
Let’s Review
In the previous module, you have learned about developing yourself. You were
provided with discussion and activities to help you determine the value of knowing
yourself by identifying the strengths and weaknesses towards becoming a better
version of yourself.
1. Prepare a sheet of paper and fold it crosswise. Copy the illustration below and
complete the activity.
2. On the left side of the paper, recall a significant event from your past when you
made a correct/appropriate decision which led to a positive outcome. While on the
right side, cite a significant event when you made a wrong/inappropriate decision
which led to a negative outcome. Share things which you are comfortable to discuss
with your Homeroom Guidance teacher.
3. Begin with the nature of the problem. Reflect on the steps that you take leading to
your decision.
4. Answer the processing questions after.
Processing Questions:
1. How did you feel when reflecting on the decisions you made in the past? – I just know myself
more because of that activity that I make.
2. What are the steps that you identified and followed in making your personal decisions? – You
need to talk to someone that has a lot of experience with that making personal decisions, or request
to someone that you need some advice or opinions.
3. What have you learned on the results of your decisions in the past? – Don’t let your emotions
win, because it can lead to a bad decision.
2. Scenario #2: You are worried because one of your friends has been hanging
out with your classmates who are pressuring her to try drinking alcohol. One of
them is her long-time crush who even invited her to come to their house during
weekend because his parents will not be there. Your friend came to you to
help her decide. What will you do? – I will suggest to her that she will not go,
since they are pressuring her. Even though your crush is one of the people
that will hang out, you should think first and make a strong decision, because if
something bad happened, might this will trap you.
3. Scenario #3: Someone in your class cheated on a test. You know for a fact
that he, together with your friend were writing answers on a small note before
the test. When the test papers were given, your teacher congratulated him for
getting the highest score. You are confused about reporting that he cheated as
your friend might also be punished as well for helping him. What will you do? –
I will not tolerate of this kind situation, I will choose the bright side, even
though my friend will be mad at me. It’s better to take an auction to this, rather
than to tolerate.
Processing Questions:
1. How did you feel while deciding for the given scenarios? – I feel happy, since I know what is
wrong and what is right.
2. What are the factors that you considered in making your decisions? – The
factors that I considered is the result or outcome of the scenario that given to
me.
3. What important insights have you gained from the decisions you have made?
– I become more serious about the decisions, and I didn’t make fun
of it.
Keep in Mind
Suggested Time Allotment: 15 minutes
As a growing adolescent, you should be able to make constructive
choices and be accountable of your actions. Remember that each decision that you
make has consequences that can affect your life. Below are some important tips to
help you enhance your responsible decision-making skills.
Sound Decision-making
1. Be mindful and accurate in recognizing the problems and challenges that you are
facing.
7
2. Effectively analyze the problems by looking at it in different perspectives, including
how and why it happened.
3. Develop your ability to identify several options and explore the possible
consequences for each.
4. Approach problems by considering your values and principles.
5. Take time to evaluate how you solved a problem by reflecting on its
outcome/result.
Keep in mind that sound decision is about making choices that are good for you
and for others. It involves critical thinking, self-discipline and accountability. Most
importantly, it is about understanding yourself, your actions and how it will affect
others. Throughout your journey, you will become more and more independent until
you can be matured enough to make your own decisions.
You Can Do It!
Suggested Time Allotment: 25 minutes
Decision-making: It is Up to Me!
1. Copy and complete the table on a sheet of paper.

— Then, we must
not forget how
race is depicted in
the media (books,
films, social
platforms, etc) has
a significant
impact on how
society views
race. While the
media is a
reflection of a
larger culture, it
maintains racial
prejudices and
hence feeds
bigotry. Racism in
the media is
sometimes subtle
and without
malicious intent,
but it has very
detrimental
repercussions. For
example, Black
men are over-
represented in the
media as violent
crime
perpetrators, while
Black individuals
are also over-
represented in
poverty-related
news articles. This
has an impact on
both Black
people's self-
image and
society's
impression of
them.

1. In making decisions, I discovered/re-discovered that I value the most is myself
decisions.
2. When making decisions, I learned that I need to talk to someone who has more
experienced in making a better decision in life.
3.For me, making decisions is difficult when I have a problem, because if you are
making decision while you are on the stage that you have a problem, the decision
outcome will be bad.
On a sheet of paper, write a letter for your future self to be reopened and
reread at the end of the school year. Consider the following questions in writing your
letter:
1. What are the challenges that you already successfully
went through? 2. What are the challenges that you expect
throughout the school year? 3. What lessons have you
learned up to this point?
4. What goals have you achieved? Who helped you along
the way? 5. What will you remind yourself about making
decisions and achieving future goals?
Dear Future Self,
In the future, my past in decision-making will remind me how bad I am in making decision,
because, honestly the goal that I want to achieved is still on the stage that I need to pass or
achieved it. Dear Future Self, please be strong to the near future that will face. Take the
challenges easy but surely, always fight for the right doing not the wrong doing. Be proud if
you achieved one of your goal, you deserve to be happy.
