Case 3: Motorbus Company: Que Sera Sera
SUMMARY
Engineer Hermogenes Ancheta received his appointment papers from his new direct supervisor,
the Vice-President for Operations, and he has been elevated from Assistant Manager to Manager of the
Maintenance Department. After congratulating him on his promotion, his employer gave him a verbal
direction to establish some order in his department and make it run as effectively and efficiently as
possible.
When Engineer Ancheta joined Motorbus Company in 1993, he had just passed the board exams
for Mechanical Engineering. He told his former University of Santo Tomas classmates in June 1995 that
he had been promoted to Assistant Manager for Maintenance. When Engineer Gaudencio Inductivo,
who was then 62 years old, promoted him from Assistant Manager to Manager. Engineer Ancheta
received appointment papers raising him to Manager the next day after the permission from the VP for
operations and the approval of Engineer Inductivo's retirement.
By the time he was on the job as a manager, he had inspected the storage area and discovered
an unbalanced supply of parts. Some parts were in surplus quantities, while others were insufficiently
stocked, and the corner room had a large number of obsolete parts.
In what way will Engr. Ancheta find a way to make the Maintenance Department's operations as
efficient and effective as possible?
They will need to provide further training for any new employees they may hire.
Engr. Ancheta must address the issue with the supply.
Because he was new to this position, he sought advice from his supervisor on what he should
do.
Engineer Ancheta must consider focusing on the operations of the Motorbus Company to be
adequate enough to work with it efficiently and more effectively bus servicing across the Philippines,
given that he is fresh on the job as designated Manager. As a manager, he must be aware of the
employees under his direction, such as mechanics and assistants, who may labor for no other reason
than to support the company. This is simply giving him the impression that he requires a better
employee who has no other options but to work for the company on a full-time basis. As a result, they
will be more productive if they work together in the company to support each other's requirements in
order to build a stronger foundation for the Motorbus business.
They must conduct additional training for any new employees they may hire in order to ensure
that the bus route will provide better service in returning to its destinations. The mechanic should have
their support as a maintenance that every unit must be checked before they move on to their
destinations.
