TEACHING MULTIGRADE CLASSES IN THE ELEMENTARY GRADES

NAME: DARWIN M. SEVILLA

COURSE/ YEAR/ SECTION: BEED III-A
INSTRUCTOR: MS. CELESTE S. PANTONILLA

ANSWERS;
1. Explain the concept of multi-grade teaching.
 Multi means plenty, many or more than one. The word grade means level.
Therefore, multi-grade means many grades. Multi-grade teaching is a
situation in which one teacher has to teach many grades, all at the same
time. It happens in all school where there are more grades than teachers
or in a remote area. Some multi-grade teachers may teach two grades,
but some teach three or four grades. In small school, teachers may teach
six or seven grades at the same time under one roof. In this kind of
teaching, the learners in each grade are usually of the same age but may
differ in abilities.
2. Compare multi-grade teaching and mono-grade teaching.
 The comparison of multi-grade teaching and mono-grade teaching is that
the multi-grade teaching may be defined as the students of more than one
grade at the same time and at the same place. It describes a situation
where students of various grades are positioned together for guiding
purpose. While mono-grade teaching is a class that includes students of a
solitary class, yet ordinarily of blended capacities. Such classes include
students of a comparative age, group however in nations where repeat
and rushing is normal, a mono-grade class may likewise be of blended
age.

 Lot of paper works
 Balancing diverse learning needs
 Handle too many masters

 Limitations of disciplining students
 Teachers working too many roles at the same time
My Solution
 Teaching multi-grade class is one of the teacher’s difficult job. There are
many things that the teacher should consider. My advice for teachers is to
have a very big patience because they are handling different grade level in
one classroom. They must have an inspiration for them to achieve the
success that they desire which is in teaching multi-grade class.
5. Scheme of work
 A scheme of work, in short, is an overview or a long-term plan for what
you aim to teach in a particular subject across a term or an academic
year. A scheme of work is needed in teaching multi-grade class to
organize the schedule or the plan in his/her teaching. It makes the teacher
to be prepares and master the lesson, achieved what skills to develop in
children by selecting appropriate topic, strategies, methods to the learning
objectives.
6. Personal Views
 If I will become a parent someday I would let my child to attend a multi-
grade class. I believed that education is important for children. I am a kind
of person that do not let go the opportunities that I have. I know that a
multi-grade teacher suffer different challenges in his/her teaching but I
appreciate their effort. I want to know to my child how education is
important. In order to achieve such progress in learning and teaching, I will
suggest that the teacher must improve their catching interest of the pupils.
It is important because we know that multi-grade classroom has a high
number of students that’s why students are stressed because of the
environment. When we catch the attention of our student they can feel
comfortable. My advice for teachers would be have more patience and
inspiration in doing activities and to love their work because if you love
your work, your work will also loves you.
