Assignment 2
A. Work in groups, take a sentence from the text or build a sentence containing the following
things:
1. Infinitive phrase with to after certain verbs
2. Infinitive phrase without to after certain verbs
Example :
It might rain later in the evening
I must go now
She should have resigned
3. To infinitive phrase after the passive construction
example :
I am expecting to be given a pay-rise next month.
She is hoping to be elected president.

The use of the Negative infinitive phrase with to is to express negative sentences where
"not" comes before the invinitive, and before the invinitive there is "to" to express the
purpose.
Example :
They are happy not to work today
Sentence pattern : subject + not + to + infinitive verb

1. As a Subject
Is when invinitive verb used as subject and located at the beginning of the
sentence
Example:
To go to cappadocia is my dream
Sentence pattern: to + infinitive verb (subject)
2. As a Complement of Subject
It is a noun or an adjective that either renames the subject or modified it
Example :
My job is to teach students
Sentence pattern : Subject + to + infinitive verb

Is when invinitive verb used as object
Example :
we have to understand the material to be able to do the exam
Sentence pattern : subject + to + infinitive verb (Object)

direct object is a person or thing that directly receives the action of the verb in a
clause. An infinitive that acts as the object of another verb is sometimes known as
a verb complement
Example :
I want to buy the bag next week.
Sentence pattern : subject + to + infinitive verb (direct object)
6. Modifier of Noun
As a noun, they might act as the subject of the sentence
Example:
To study is one of the ways to be smart
Sentence pattern : infinite verb(noun) + to be/lingking verb + complement

An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that follow another noun and explains or
gives an example of it
Example :
My goal in life, to become an artist, requires a great deal of practice
The infinitive start a phrase that is an appositive to the noun before it
