ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PART 1: ESSAY (50 MARKS)

You are a teacher. Your pupils are in their mid-teens. Your pupils are going to sit for a
public examination in the coming year. Part of this examination is a conversation
element where each pupil will sit with an examiner face-to-face for five to ten minutes
and engage in a conversation on a topic that will be determined by the examiner. The
problem is that these pupils have only a lower intermediate level English language
mastery for their age and educational stage.

Watch this video on conversations by Celeste Headlee TED Talk.

used with your pupils with the following requirements:

a) These activities are meant to build pupils' competence in holding conversations

in English.
You cannot use ONE (1) technique or one combination of techniques in more
than ONE (1) activity. Describe your activities in detail.

b) Your activities MUST be based on TWO (2) techniques described in the Celeste

Discuss the following topic in the myINSPIRE forum and submit proof of your participation in
the online discussions:

You cannot teach people to have conversations online in the same way that you teach them
to have face-to-face conversations. This is because talking with others through the internet
is not the same as talking with them online.
