E-COMMERCE APPLICATIONS

E-commerce is the most preferred way of trading goods and

services. Today more and more people prefer to buy articles
through the internet and assisted technologies. The key factors
driving this e-commerce revolution is social media, advances in e-
commerce app development, rising preference for mobile
commerce, and other digital modes. The role of e-commerce
applications is the most significant here.

E-commerce applications is a bit misleading terminology, as it

leads to two possible perceptions: one, where it refers to the use
of e-commerce as a medium of marketing; retail and wholesale;
auctioning; e-banking; booking and so on.

The second idea one gets is that of a software application like

Amazon, eBay, Groupon, etc. It may be a web application or
mobile application (now popularly known as m-commerce
applications). Mobile e-commerce applications are nothing but an
extension of e-commerce. Mobile app ideas are the driving force
behind every successful business app, be it an Uber-like taxi app.

The picture below describes the two meanings accurately. The

orange colour implicates the use of e commerce applications with
the first intention, and the green shows the use for the second.

3
We briefly touched upon the two perceptions of e-commerce
applications. Now, let us delve into them in more detail.

1. Retail and Wholesale

E-retailing or online retailing refers to the transaction of goods

and services through online stores from businesses to
consumers. It is achieved through means such as virtual
shopping carts and e-catalogues. The applications of e-commerce
in this sector is numerous.

2. Finance

Finance and e-commerce are more connected today than ever.

Banks and stock markets use e-commerce significantly in their
operation. Online banking provides provisions such as balance
check, bill payment, money transfer, etc. Online stock trading
enables people to carry out trading electronically by giving

4
information about stocks such as performance reports, analysis,
charts, etc. through websites.

3. Manufacturing

In manufacturing, e-commerce forms a medium for companies to

execute the electronic exchange. Combined buying and selling,
sharing market status, inventory check information, etc. enables
groups of companies to fluidly carry out their operations.

4. Auctioning

Applying e-commerce to auctions takes it to a more significant

level where people can participate without any geographical
boundaries. That leads to more participation, more negotiation,
and helps to make auctions successful.

5. Marketing

Marketing activities such as pricing, product features, and

building customer relationships can be strengthened using e-
commerce to provide users an enhanced and customized
shopping experience. Digital marketing strategies have become a
significant way to promote businesses.

6. Online Shopping

The shopping preferences of people have undergone a massive

change in the last few years. “Go online” has become a mantra

5
for all businesses to succeed. Online shopping is comfortable,
convenient, and at most times, cost effective. The prosperity of
online shopping apps such as Flipkart, Amazon are proof of this.

7. Mobile and Web Applications

Popularly called mobile commerce or m-commerce applications,

this is a subset of retail e-commerce. Mobile or web application
development has become a staple for brands to showcase their
business capabilities. The consumer carries out purchases
through mobile or web applications that are optimized for the
retailer. These applications also ensure payment security through
safe e-payment methods.

8. Online Booking

Travel and tourism are thriving industry today, and online

booking is an ecommerce application that is growing as a result
of it. Online booking helps people book travel essential services
like train/flight tickets, hotel rooms, tourism packages,
transportation services, etc. It makes travel very convenient and
easy for people as everything can be set from the tip of the
fingers.

businesses.

BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS HUBS

Business-to-business e-commerce is any Internet-based

information or product exchange between companies. Also
referred to by the shorthand B2B, business-to-business e-
commerce is a category of business dealings that covers basically
all of the ways that technology helps companies do business with
each other. Corporate marketing done through Websites, online
software sales, computing services, and electronic data
management can all be part of the B2B e-commerce equation.
Business-to-business e-commerce only includes online sales and
marketing between businesses. Interactions with consumers are
considered business-to-consumer, or B2C, exchanges.

The advent of the Internet has changed the way that businesses
compete and participate in the marketplace. The ability to
manage information electronically has made many corporate
tasks more efficient, and the ease of digital communications has
simplified many aspects of sales and marketing schemes. One of
the most important changes that the Internet brought to
businesses is the ability to solicit and sell goods and services
electronically, and it is precisely this ability that comprises the
bulk of business-to-business e-commerce.

7
Business-to-business (B2B) is a situation or an activity that
processed between two companies to make a commercial
transaction with one another.
Simply, it can define commerce doing business with other
companies. B2B transaction is entirely different from other
ecommerce types like it directly sell products to other business
rather than selling products to consumers. Some B2B business
includes Alibaba, Woodpecker, eWorld Trade and more. This kind
of apps are developed by high end web development company.

WEAKNESS IN INTERNET ADVERTISING

 High Expectations

If your company’s online marketing campaign has already been

done better, it may end up hurting business. Today’s web users
are constantly bombarded with new content, so standing out
from the rest can be a challenge.

 Customer Scepticism

Although the Internet is a fantastic tool for legitimate companies,

it is also a breeding ground for nefarious business practices, as
well as outright scams.

 No Try Before You Buy

Selling a product online can be challenging using just words,

pictures, and video. Even the most detailed listings simply can’t
compare to being able to hold the item for sale before purchasing
it. This is also true when selling a service – speaking with
someone face-to-face tends to yield better results.

 There is a healthy amount of competition

9
There are many prospects that can be found on the internet, but
that isn’t a secret that only a select few know about. Everyone
realizes that there is a lot of potential with internet

 Easy for internet users to block advertising

All current Internet browsers have options available which block

all advertising. It’s not just the pop-up ads we’re talking about
here. Banner advertising, link advertising, affiliate efforts – they
can all be blocked.

 It creates a moment of distraction

The problem with internet advertising is that it distracts people

from what their ultimate purpose for being online happened to
be. Most people don’t log onto a website that offers free dinner
recipes and expect to see an advertisement that they’ll want to
click on.
we do know is that internet ads which are complimentary, such
as those which are combined with other advertising mediums,
tend to convert more customers than singular internet
advertising campaigns on their own.

 Random slots can create unusable opportunities.

Some internet advertising options work on a cycle over a variety
of websites. Think about how many sites use Google AdWords,
for example. Some campaigns are placed in a cycle on a wide
10
variety of sites that may not always have content that is equal to
what their listing offers. If advertising content appears on a site
that may be inappropriate to the message that is being
communicated, the end result is more than just awkwardness. It
can indicate support for that inappropriate content and drive
prospects away.
