I. INTRODUCTION
A. Background
Critical Journal Review is important for students because it makes it easier to discuss
the essence of existing research results. There are several important things before we review a
journal, such as finding a journal that fits the topic raised, reading the entire journal content
and trying to rewrite in your own language the meaning of the journal.
In this Critical Journal review, I will try to discuss and analyze a journal entitled
"Effectively Measuring Student Leadership". Then make a summary of the journal, conduct
discussions to analyze the journal in general, analyze the background and sample and
population sections. then make conclusions and suggestions.
B. Purpose
This critical journal review is made as a scientific reference that is useful to add
insight to the author and readers in knowing the advantages and disadvantages of journals, to
be taken into consideration, and also to complete one of the research methods course
assignments.
C. Benefits
Helps readers know the general description and assessment of journal or other work in
a concise manner.
Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the journal being reviewed.
Provide input to the author of the book in the form of criticism and suggestions for the
writing, content, and substance of the journal.

II. JOURNAL SUMMARY
Introduction
Leadership development is an integral part of the educational program of college students,
with courses and activities running the gamut from curricular classes offered by a variety of
academic disciplines to cocurricular programs offered by various student affairs offices. This
interest has spurred the development of a plethora of leadership books, materials, and
experiential activities, along with surveys and instruments to measure and assess skills related
to various leadership initiatives. Many of the leadership development programs designed for
college students are based upon studies and models that were developed with managers in
business and public-sector organizations .
Objectives
The objective of this paper is to update the analysis of the psychometric properties of the. The
purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Student Leadership
Methods
This paper investigates the psychometric properties of LPI Students. to collect data using the
interview method of the sample. the sample population was examined by looking at five
possible post hoc hypotheses about the impact of personal differences. With a worldwide
sample of students (N = 77, 387), this paper reviews and analyzes the psychometric
properties of the Student Leadership Practices Inventory. Modest to strong internal reliability
coefficients are found across a number of different dimensions. Predictive validity of the
instrument is supported, with the instrument being able to differentiate between effective and
ineffective leaders using both self-reported and observer (constituent) data. Few significant
differences are found on the basis of respondent gender, ethnicity, nationality, or institutional
level (high school versus college). Implications for developing student leaders and future
research are offered.
Results
The overall Cronbach alpha coefficients on the Self version run from .69 to .80 and on the
Observer version are all above 0.82. Reliability coefficients are shown for Self and Observers
on the basis of gender, nationality, ethnicity and institutional level. These follow a similar
pattern, with the scores of Observers being higher than those from Self respondents. All of
the internal reliability coefficients on the Student LPI are above .61 and additional analyses
revealed that these coefficients did not increase if an item for any of the five leadership
practices scales was deleted.
Conclusion
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Student
Leadership. Using a database of nearly 78,000 students, across a variety of individual
differences, internal reliability analyses showed a fairly consistent set of Cronbach alpha
coefficients generally at about the .70 level and above. While there were some statistical
differences in leadership behavior on the basis of gender, ethnicity, and nationality they were
relatively minor in comparison with the many similarities. The patterns of responses, as
indicated by the rank order of frequency, were quite consistent among all of the various
possible combinations investigated. The Student-LPI meets the psychometric standards of
reliability and validity. Somewhat higher internal reliability coefficients for several practices
would be desirable

III. DISCUSSION
1. Critical Review in General
After analyzing this journal in general, I think this journal is an interesting journal
because it discusses the leadership of students. In the journal provides an explanation of
leadership. then explain also the behavior that is categorized as leadership behavior. Overall
from the introduction, the method used for research, research samples, objectivity of the
research, data analysis and several tables were also published in the journal making it easier
for us to get clear and accurate information from the journal.
2. Critical Analysis For The Background
In this background section, the researcher makes the background of the research very
clear. The researcher explained that the background of this study was to analyze the
psychometric properties of the Student Leadership Practices Inventory and examine the
internal reliability coefficient. Then this research is also supported by an instrument that is
able to distinguish between effective and ineffective leaders using both self-reports and
observers (constituents). Some significant differences were found on the basis of respondent's
gender, ethnicity, nationality, or institution level (high school versus college).
3. Critical Analysis For The Sample And Population
In the sample and population section, the researcher started looking for a sample of
students from 2007 to 2010 and most of it was run online. This sample search gathered a
large and substantially strong sample population. The sample was collected between 2007
and 2010. The pool of samples resulted in data containing more than 77,387 students,
including from 17,210 student leaders who completed the Self version and 60,177 who
completed the Observer version. Due to this, not all respondents provided complete answers
to demographic data, and sample sizes varied.

IV. CLOSING
1.Conclusion
After I reviewed a research journal entitled Effectively Measuring Student
Leadership. I conclude that this journal is useful and good. The introduction of the journal
contains some information about leadership, then in the background section a very clear
explanation is also given because in this section The researcher explained that the
background of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Student
Leadership Practices. In addition, the methods and results are also well explained. In
addition, this journal contains several tables that make the data results clearer and more
accurate.
2. Suggestion
My suggestion as a reviewer of this journal is that when researchers want to do the
same research and increase the reference about leadership in students. In addition, I hope to
add that the results of this review can be used as a reference again by readers who want to see
journal reviews on the same topic as the journals that I have reviewed.
