1. Purpose

1.1. To establish procedure for general exhaust stack fabrication method.


1.2. To ensure the fabrication method and quality meets the standard
requirement of M+W.

2. Scope : For works related to industrial projects

3. Reference : American Welding Standard (AWS)


International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

4. Definition : Nil

5. Material/Equipment : Arc welding machine, grinder, spray paint machine,


bending machine, plasma cutter, etc.

6. Permit Application: NIL (work done in factory)

7. Prior to start work preparation:

7.1. Qualified welders will prepare sample welding block for submittal and
approval from M+W to ensure the quality of welding meets the
requirement standards.

7.2. A construction drawing will be produced prior to ordering materials.


Any comments on the stack construction method will be highlighted
prior to start of work.

7.3. All materials will be checked for thickness and specification before
cutting, bending or welding work is proceed.

8. Procedure:

8.1. Fabrication of stack will be done according to approved construction


drawing. All materials must follow the specifications of construction
drawing.

8.2. Once the correct materials are identified for the specific part of stack,
it will begin to cut into the required dimensions using plasma cutter.
Finished cut materials will be measured for accuracy.

8.3. Finished materials will be inspected for quality and surface finishing.

8.4. For materials which required to be formed into shape, it will goes into
bending machine for curves and edges.

8.5. For materials / joints which require welding, edges to be formed to


ensure good welding quality. All welding procedures are to follow
AWS or ISO standard.

8.6. Debris of arc welding are to be grind off using grinder and to ensure
good surface finishing.

8.7. After welding is done, quality of welding will be inspected for quality
and finishing.

8.8. Quality of stack fabrication is to be monitored from time to time till the
stack is finished.

8.9. When the stack fabrication works is done, it will undergo painting
process which will be sprayed with metal primer, followed by two
layers of solvent borne undercoat and final layer of exterior full gloss
enamel.

8.10. A joint inspection with M+W personnel will be conducted prior to


delivery to site and installation.

9. Precaution – NIL (as per factory standard safety regulations)
