Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use
this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning at home. Furthermore, you are
expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included
in the module.

3. The distance-time graph represents the
position of an object moving in a straight line.
A. 10 m/s C. 0 m/s
B. 5 m/s D. 7.5 m/s
2
Let Us Study
Describing the motion of an object is easier understood through
graphical presentations or use of diagrams. Herein, the relationship of
distance and time, speed or velocity and time are interpreted easily when
presented through graphs and diagrams.
Objects is at Rest
Y
An object is NOT MOVING when a
horizontal line is shown on a
distance-time graph.
3
Object Moving at Constant Speed
Y
An object is NOT MOVING when a
horizontal line is shown on a
distance-time graph.
4
Below is a graph that show acceleration. It looks different from
those that show constant speed.
Y
The figure shows an object moving at
a constant speed. A straight
horizontal line means that speed is
constant. It is not changing over
time.

Object is Accelerating (Speeding Up)

Glen owns such a car and it leaves a signature of Glen’s motion
wherever he goes. Analyze the three traces of Glen’s ventures as shown
below. Assume Glen is traveling from left to right. Describe his car’s motion
characteristics during each section of the diagram.
A B C
1.
a. What happens to the car’s speed in section A?
b. Infer the car’s motion at section B.
c. Describe the car’s motion in section C.

Let Us Practice More
Situation: Glen is a Grade 7 learner, and he needs help with his module. He
wants to go to his classmate Gerry’s house so they can work together on a
Physics problem. Plot Glen’s displacement-time graph during his walk.
Segment A. From his house (at 0 mark), Glen walked 8 meters East
toward Gerry’s in 4 minutes. He walked at a constant velocity of
2 m/min, to the East.
Segment B. At the gate of Gerry’s house, Glen and Gerry talked for
3 minutes about their assignment.
Segment C. Glen then jogged back 8 meters West to his house in
3 minutes at a constant velocity of 2.7 m/min, West.

Time, t (min)
The activity above definitely sharpened your understanding about
the motion of an object. It can be said that the motion of an object changes
from time to time.
9
Let Us Remember
➢ A distance-time graph tells us how far an object has moved with time.
o The steeper the graph, the faster the motion.
o A horizontal line means the object is not changing its position, it is
not moving, hence it is at rest.
o A downward sloping line means the object is returning to the start.

Let Us Assess
Read the questions carefully. Choose the best answer and write it on
a separate sheet of paper.
A. A
B. C
C. B and D
D. A, B, and D
A. Constant Position
B. Constant Acceleration
C. Constant Speed
D. All of the Above
11
For Questions 7 to 10, refer to the speed-time graph of a car below.
A. 20 m/s
B. 0 m/s
C. 40 m/s
D. 200 m/s
12
For Questions 12-14, refer to the position-time graph below.
12. What is the motion of the object from 3rd to 5th second?
13. What is the motion of the object from 5th to 7th second?
A. Constant speed C. Moving farther from origin
B. At rest D. Going back to starting point
13
Let Us Enhance
A. The graph below shows that the speed of a bus changes during part of a
journey. Choose the correct words from the following list to describe the
motion during each segment of the journey to fill in the blanks.
- Accelerating
- Decelerating
- Constant speed
- At rest
14
B. The speed-time graphs below represent the motion of a car. Match the
descriptions with the graphs. Explain your answers.
Descriptions:
The car is stopped.
The car is traveling at a constant speed.
The car is accelerating.
The car is slowing down.
Great job for doing the activity well. Remember what you have
learned in your previous activities served as foundation that made you
gained better understanding in interpreting motion of an object.
15
Let Us Reflect
Congratulations learners for reaching this far. Now, let’s assess the
things that you have learned in real life situation.
Situation: You are excited to go to one of the malls in your area. You
plan to buy a present or gift for your loved ones. Assume that you are
riding in a jeep, multicab, or taxi or even your own car or vehicle.
Task:
a. Develop a motion (distance-time graph) from your home to the mall
that you would like to go or explore.
b. Describe your motion from one area to another (Accelerating,
decelerating, not moving)
c. Then compute the average speed. You can use a graphing paper or
a clean sheet of paper. The scale is 1 inch = 1 km.
