Technical Bulletin #3

• New BC216 Firmware : Version 18

General
The BC216 programs comprise the country specific firmware (the operating software PL149
of the BC216 fire detection control panels) and the optionally available parameterizing tool
PARSOFT® for your Windows® -PC. This document describes all innovations and extension since
version 17.
The new version 18 of the BC216 software is obligatory for all BC216 fire detection
control panels, which possess a central processing board ZTB216-2 from serial
number 4314360 on.
For correct use the firmware must be imported into the BC216 fire detection control panel and
the parameterization data must be converted via PARSOFT®

Legal note
Importing the firmware into a BC216 fire detection control panel may only be
proceeded by staff appropriately trained and certified by LST. Please read and note
the corresponding instructions in the BC216 User Manual Part C.
Labor Strauss Sicherungsanlagenbau GmbH does not take over any liability or
warranty for damages resulting from work not professionally executed.

Important note
Due to the changed internal structure of parameterization the complete
parameterization of the fire detection control panel is reset to initial values during
the first restart of BC216 after the update to the new firmware. Then the following
message points out this initialization:

FAULT
Systemparam. Flash

To receive the parameterization saved in the BC216 it is absolutely necessary to

keep the following order:
1. Reading out and saving the exising parameterization data from the BC216
2. Importing the new firmware into the BC216
3. Converting the read out parameterization data via PARSOFT®
4. Importing the converted parameterization data into the BC216

New Functions

ESPA-Interface
Information can be put out optimally in the „ESPA format“ via one of the two serial
interfaces of the the fire detection control panels of Series BC216. The interface
corresponds to the protocol description „ESPA 4.4.4“.
ATTENTION: ESPA and CIDD interfaces can be parameterized only alternatively
(only one of both interfaces per panel), because they occupy the same parameter
memory.
The baud rate is automatically set to 9600 Baud (data format: 8 data bits, no
parity, 1 stop bit, no handshake).
The setting of the parameters is only possible via PARSOFT®.

In order to be able to parameterize the ESPA interface, a central processing board

ZTB216-x of serial number 3512656 or higher and an appropriately programmed option chip
is necessary (Art.Nr. 0218023).

Test activation of zones and elements

Up to software version x.17 it was possible to activate each detector zone or each
detector in authorisation level 2 and 3. All actuations combined with this detector
zone were triggered thereby. In case of operating staff with insufficient knowledge
about the fire detection system this sometimes could lead to a faulty operation. In
order to minimize the risk of such faulty operation, authorization level 3 (Installer)
is now required for the activation of zones or zone elements via the menu „Zones“.

Extended function of the „Alarm Delay“ button in the GSSnet
From version x.18 on the switch on/off (day/night) of the alarm delay of the
primary transmitting device by means of the „Alarm Delay“ button is possible not
only from the GSSnet member containing the transmitting device, but also from
each GSSnet member in case the button is assigned to the primary transmitting
device.

Extended function of the „On/Off“ button in the GSSnet

From version x.18 on the silencing and resounding of an alarming device by means
of the „On/Off“ button is possible not only from the GSSnet member containing
the alarming device, but also from each GSSnet member in case the button is
assigned to the recpective alarming device.
