ACTIVITY NO. 1
Part I.

1. 345 ± 3.4 𝑐𝑚
2. 890 ± 5.6 𝑘𝑔
3. 55 ± 2.3 𝑁
4. The measurement between 150 and 170.
5. The measurement between 72 and 88.
Part II. Home activity.
FINDING THE DIAMETER
The images shown below is the obverse and reverse design of the new 10-peso coin. It has an
exact diameter of 27 mm. For today’s activity, you are tasked to measure the diameter of a 10-
peso coin repeatedly using a ruler. Record the values obtained in Table 1 and answer the follow
up questions and problems.
(The diameter is the line through the center of a 10-peso coin that touches two points on the
edge.)

1. Calculate the average diameter of a 10-peso coin from your recorded measurements.
𝑇𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙 1+𝑇𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙 2+𝑇𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙 3+𝑇𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙 4+𝑇𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙 5
Formula: 𝐴𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟 = 5
2. Calculate the percentage error of your calculated average diameter of a 10-peso coin.
𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟−𝐸𝑥𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟
Formula: 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑒𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑟 = ( ) × 100%
𝐸𝑥𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟

ACTIVITY NO. 3
Direction: Calculate the resultant vector of the following using analytical and graphical method.
1. Lynna was observing an ant that crawled along a tabletop. With a piece of chalk, he
followed its path. He determined the ant’s displacement by using a ruler and a protractor.
The displacements were as follows: 5 cm east; 4 cm north, 5 cm west. Find the resultant
vector.
2. A plane is flying due north at 200 𝑚⁄𝑠 is blown by a strong wind at 400 𝑚⁄𝑠 due east.
3. A ship is going north with a speed of 80 𝑚⁄𝑠 . The waves going 110 𝑚⁄𝑠 west is
affecting the velocity of the ship. Find the resultant velocity of the ship.
4. Find the resultant of a vector 50 𝑚⁄𝑠 south and a vector 30 𝑚⁄𝑠 west.
1. Four coplanar vectors are expressed with respect to the 𝑥 and 𝑦 𝑎𝑥𝑒𝑠 as:
𝐴 = 3𝑖̂ + 4𝑗̂
𝐵 = 6𝑖̂ − 8𝑗̂
𝐶 = −3𝑖̂ − 𝑗̂
𝐷 = −5𝑗̂
2. Find the sum of these four vectors: 𝐴 = 9𝑗̂, 𝐵 = 5𝑖̂, 𝐶 = −3𝑗̂, and 𝐷 = −𝑖̂ + 7𝑗̂.
3. Given two vectors: 𝐴 = 2𝑖̂ + 6𝑗̂ and 𝐵 = 4𝑖̂ − 3𝑗̂. Find the resultant vector.
