7e-Lesson-Plan in Science 7arian

The document provides details about an upcoming lesson plan on eclipses for a Grade 7 class. It includes information on the topic, objectives, materials, procedures, and evaluation. The lesson will explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur through demonstrations and activities. Students will learn about the motions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun that cause eclipses. They will also discuss community beliefs about eclipses and how to educate others.

Objectives

At the end of the period, students should be able to:

1. explain how shadows are formed in space;

2. interpret the formation of shadows of astronomical objects in space;
3. simulate the shadows on astronomical objects in space using models; and
4. identify the difference of lunar and solar eclipse.

Values to Ponder/ Technology Transfer:

1. Explain to the family and community the factors that cause eclipse.

2. Elaborate the process/movement and role of the moon and sun and its reason for causing eclipse

3. Enumerate the beliefs and practices of their kin folks and relate it to science concepts.

1. ELICIT- 3 mins.

THINK, PAIR AND SHARE: Based from the previous discussion,

students will be paired and recall their prior knowledge about

or related to the topic characteristics/effects of sunlight

in the earth’s atmosphere/biosphere.

Possible answers:

Solar radiation causes skin cancer to human however,

sunlight causes the flora and fauna to exist and live

productively.

Sunlight, also called sunshine is a solar radiation that is visible to Earth’s surface.

Over much of the middle-latitude region of the world, the amount of sunlight varies regularly as the
day progresses, owing to greater cloud cover in the early morning and during the late afternoon.

2. ENGAGE- 5 mins.

Republic of the Philippines
Region I
Pangasinan Division II

Emphasize the shadow that formed when the sunlight

strikes an object t. Through the elenctic method and using

common objects in the environment let the students realize

that whenever there is light, shadows were formed. This will

serve as a spring board in asking the trivia questions later on.

The teacher will narrate the legend of Bakunawa and let the

students observe.

Then ask the following questions:

1. Why do ancient people or our ancestors believe

that this creature is the reason of this phenomenon?
2. What are the similarities of this phenomenon
to the shadows you observed in your surroundings?

Students are expected to give scientific explanation and prior

knowledge about eclipses:
Possible Answer:
Our ancestors believed in this myth, because of misconception that
sun or the moon is eaten by mythic monster during solar eclipse,
Because in ancient time. facility or apparatus used in observing
space is not yet discovered.

Ask these follow up Questions:

3. Why sun turns black during eclipse?
4. What is the object that blocks the sunlight during eclipse?
5. Is the shadow we see in eclipse is the same shadow we can
observe here in earth?

To answer these questions, students are expected to give

scientific explanation and prior knowledge about eclipses as they
perform the following activity.

3. EXPLORE- 15 mins.

Let the student go to their respective groups. Each group has its
own leader, secretary, time-keeper, presenter, and material manager.
The teacher will provide the materials and discuss the objectives and
procedure of the activities. Further, review safety procedures of the
activity.

Let the leader perform the activity as the group members answer

the guide questions.

Do maximum supervision while the students

perform the group activity.

Activity: Are there shadows in space?

Guided questions:

1. What is formed on the other side of the Moon?

2. What is formed on the surface of the Earth?
3. What is formed on the white paper?
4. What happens to the shadow of the Moon as you move the
Moon around the Earth?
5. Observe the appearance of the Moon. What is the effect of the
shadow of the Earth on the Moon as the Moon reaches
position X?

4. EXPLAIN- 15 mins.

After the activity, the teacher will ask one of the guided questions in
every group, students will present their answers to the guide question
(To be written in provided cartolina). A representative in each group
will present and discuss the observations and ideas to the guide
questions based on the activity conducted.

5. ELABORATE-10 mins.

Strengthen the concepts gained by the students in the activities through lecture-discussion and video-clip
presentation containing Eclipses and other events that affect the lives and behavior of the people. Correct
misconceptions, as the need arises.

Further, discuss the reason that these phenomena

are mainly the result of the motions of the

Earth and Moon through space.

As the Earth goes around the Sun,

the northern and southern hemispheres are

alternately exposed to the direct rays of the Sun,

leading to the annual changes in seasons.

Address the last two questions by asking students the effect of the shadow and the revolution of the
moon to the earth. Ask other concerns on the beliefs during solar and lunar eclipse and how to educate
their folks in their community during eclipse.

6. EVALUATE-10 mins.

BLACK BOARDS

Direction; The teacher will provide chalk, tissue and cardboards to each group and use it as answer board
for the following questions. Each question has a different scores based on its difficulty/level. The scores of
each group will be written in manila paper (posted on the board).

TRUE OR FALSE. Analyze the following statements. Write TRUE on the cardboard if the
statement is correct, and write the correct answer if the statement is false. (Erasures and super
impositions are NOT allowed).

1point- 1. Bakunawa is the reason behind solar eclipse.

1point- 2. Solar Eclipse are formed because of the earth that blocks the sunlight in the moon.

1point- 3. The corona during solar eclipse can harm your eyes

1point- 4. We can observe the movement of the earth and moon because of the natural phenomena.

1point- 5. An opaque object blocking the path of light is called dark side.

MULTIPLE CHOICE. Select the correct answer. Write the letter only on the provided cardboard.

3points- 6. A woman carrying a child on her womb is getting prepared because of the incoming eclipse;
she is applying oils and covering her body with white clothes to block the harmful effect of eclipse. As
science student do you think that this belief is necessary for her and the child?

A. yes C. no

B. it doesn’t matter D. yes because she believe

3points- 7. Our ancestors are creating loud noise to cast away the Bakunawa and spit out the moon during

eclipse. Does the sound created by our ancestors really make the moon shine again after an eclipse?

A. no, because it’s just a myth

B. Yes, because Bakunawa really exist

C. No, because the revolving moon is blocking the light and it is

the reason for sun to turn black

D. Sound is the only thing that can travel through the air and the only way to cast Bakunawa away
from the sun

4points- 8. Your grandfather told you to cover your eyes with shaded glasses or use a welder mask when
watching a solar eclipse. Is this a myth or a fact?
A. myth C. fact
B. none of the above D. A fact, because the light from
corona of the sun can
damage the cell in your eyes

5points- 9. The different natural phenomena like low tide and high tide, weather conditions and seasons
that you observed in your environment is the effect of____________.
A. light
B. Rotation of the earth
C. Rotation and the revolution of the earth and moon
to the sun
D. Solar winds

5points- 10. The following are characteristics of sunlight except __.

A. Travels in straight path C. invisible form of radiation

B. Travels faster in vacuum D. Causes shadow

7. EXTEND-2 mins.

In a random generator application, each leader

of the group will spin the roulette which contains

the following activities as an output:

1. Poster-slogan
2. Poem writing
3. Music video
4. Infomercial

The unified theme for the various activities is

“Legends and Science of Eclipse”.

Each output shall be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Creativity – 10 points

Content – 10 points

Clarity of Message – 10 points

Total – 30 points

Students are given time to plan and prepare for their group activity. Presentation shall be made on an
agreed time.
