ACTIVITY 1.1: INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY

A. The speaker in the video is Lauren Singer, she is an American environmental activist,
entrepreneur, and blogger. She claims to have been enjoying a waste-free lifestyle since
2012. Lauren is famous for claiming to have gathered all of her trash in a 16oz mason jar
since 2012.

ACTIVITY 1.2: ANALYSIS and DISCUSSION

Maybe the one I can suggest is the separation of perishable and non-perishable wastes. To do this,
our community needs to have its own garbage dump. When the day of the week comes, I would
suggest that there be a truck or any other vehicle that will dump the garbage. And it also needs to be
differentiated where the truck will put the garbage collected. Instead of throwing away plastics, they
can be recycled.

We should start making a difference is right in our own home. Learn how we can reduce, reuse, and
recycle materials to decrease household waste possible scrap of material that we can, and I do. I
recycle every scrap of paper, plastic, Glass, and Metal. I guess I'm lucky I live in a municipality that
recycles all these materials, and they can all be mixed in one bin as well which is great.
I encourage my neighbors also to do so as well, but they're going to do what they want to do and all
of them recycle from what I see, because it's actually law that we have to recycle. Especially in our
community it is easy to flood if it continues to rain. So it will help to reduce flooding in our community.

Even if it's not like Lauren Singer thought, I'm sure it will also help to reduce the garbage around

ACTIVITY 1.3.2

Daniel Goleman (22009) argues that intelligence connotes the capacity to learn from
experience and deal effectively with our environment. In his book Ecological Intelligence: The
Hidden Impacts of What We Buy Can Change Everything, he argues that ecological
intelligence is an extension of human intelligence. Ecological intelligence refers to our
understanding of natural system, integrating our cognitive skills with empathy for all of life, in
order to foster sustainable living. It is a fact that we are experiencing various ecological
threats, hence forth, it is crucial to devwlop this kind of in intelligence.

ACTIVITY 1.3.3.

1. Develop empathy for all forms of life

 At a basic level, all organisms—including humans—need food, water, space, and

conditions that support dynamic equilibrium to survive.

2. Embrace sustainability as a community practice

 Organisms do not survive in isolation. Instead, the web of relationships within any
living community determines its collective ability to survive and thrive.

IMPROPER WASTE DISPOSAL is very common in every Barangay. In my

place, I consider this one as one of the most common problem. There are those of us
who don't give it a second thought before throwing trash on the road or out of the
window, unconcerned whether it falls on someone walking down the street or putting
it anywhere. This problem has been around for a long time, and still progress is rarely
seen. Hence as a citizen living in our Barangay what can we do to address this issue?

Let us start by educating each one of us. People are not aware of the impacts
of disposing waste improperly. Only few of us know that it can negatively affect many
aspect not just the environment. It can affect our lifestyle and especially our health.
With that being said, it is very important to be educated so that proper action will follow.

Unity is also a key in successfully addressing such issue. Do you believe it will
be a good idea if you're the only one performing all of these? Of course, it can help,
but I believe it will be exhausting for you, and you will eventually stop doing it since
you will feel that nothing is working. So we should encourage the majority, if not all, of
the people to do it because the more people who are willing to do it, the more
successful it will be.

Recycling is probably the easiest way to feel like you are being environmentally-
conscious about waste management, and it is certainly beneficial, but did you know
that reducing waste is equally as important in creating a sustainable future for
generations to come? When it comes to waste, most of us know the basics of
separating our recyclables from general waste and putting out the correct bin on bin
day. However, less of us stop to think about where our waste is going and the impact
of waste on the environment. We’ve known the classic 3Rs—reduce, reuse, recycle—
since we were kids, but oftentimes, it seems that this grade school lesson remains a
concept meant to be learned and passed but not practiced.

All of these mentioned above requires effort from all parties, including you!
Responsible waste disposal professionals will always look to promote as much as
possible. But nothing will work without the effort of everyone. Please let’s start taking
care of our environment not only for us but for future generations. Nothing is more
important than having a good place to live in.

Promoting ecological literacy starts by understanding the concept within

yourself. According to ELIA, an ecological literacy is a basic life-skill that every human
being on our planet should be supported to develop. An ecologically literate person
translates this understanding into actions. It demonstrate conscious efforts to minimize
negative impacts on our life-sustaining systems and maximize value contribution to
our collective well-being, now and for the future generations. So, in promoting this to
my future or even current school to protect and rehabilitate the ecosystem or
environment I must that educating each one of us is a must.

I always mention educating or education as a way of solving problem. I believe

that being educated is a power. If we are educated, we can also have power to educate
other people and the cycle will follow. To be very honest, being literate on how to
protect and rehabilitate the ecosystem or environment is not taught all the time. With
that, people tend to disregard this topic and forget its importance.

Students or teacher we are all responsible in everything around us. Let us be

aware that we are not the only one living on this planet. Let us consider animals, non-
living things, and even the smallest species on this earth. By educating ourselves, we
can protect our environment and ourselves especially by providing future generations
a home. A home that can protect them in case of calamities. And a home that they can
call a happy place.
