Question 1: A Person You Admire
You see this notice on the board outside the school library. Write an article for family magazine! Tell us

A Person I Admire Most

By: Allison Fang

My mother is a real blessing of God upon this world. She is the person I admire the most. I love my
mother from the deepest core of my heart. I revere (respect) my mother for her tenacity and loving-
nature. She is the person whom I worship, she is perky, charismatic and the ray of sunshine in my life.
Back then I was an avid footballer, I participated in a myriad of tournaments and my mother was
always there to encourage me come what may (no matter rain or shine). Looking back at a vivid memory,
there was this one time when I wanted to go an excursion however the trip was exorbitant (expensive) and
I was short on cash. Without a single word, my mother worked overtime to help me foot the bill (pay the
bill). How could I not love her? She puts my needs on the top of her list, always.
My mother is the breadwinner of the house. She worked day and night to put food on the table.
However, during the first movement order (MCO), she was laid off from work and we lost our rental house.
Nevertheless, I was sent to live with my aunt as she was concerned with my living conditions instead of her
own personal well-being. During those harrowing time, she endured unspeakable hardship in a bid for
both of us to live comfortably once again. I lack at words to express her abounding selfless love.
My mother is the living example of an angel as she guides me along my life path. She is the only
person I pay bundle of gratitude to. I hope my mother will stay healthy. I will always remember her words
to me “ The pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow”. This is the reason why I will work
hard until succeed to repay her.
Question 2: How to Combat Stress

How to Combat Stress?
What are the signs of stress? The reasons for stress among teenagers. Suggestions on how to
overcome stress among teenagers. Write your article.

How to Combat Stress?

By: Nik Zarif lmran

What is stress? Stress is a combination of physical, mental, and emotional feelings that result
from pressure, worry and anxiety. These pressures are called stressors. Some examples of common
stressors are family problems, illness, change of environment, exams, peer pressure and financial
problems. According to Microsoft Encarta, stress is a physical, chemical or emotional development that
causes strains that can lead to physical illness. So, the million dollar questions -what are the signs of stress,
why does it happen and how can a teenager overcome stress?
For starters, the signs of stress are easy to miss but if you see someone feeling preoccupied all the
time, having difficulty concentrating, and trouble thinking flexibly he or she might have stress. This is
because stress forces people to overthink little things causing them to feel irritated, angry and rebellious
all the time. They feel as if they have the weight of the world on their shoulders.
There are many factors that contribute stress among teenagers. Firstly, school seems to be the
main cause of stress. Teenagers must encounter daily attacks from school, for example the heap of
homework they get every day can even be compared to Mount Everest. Not to mention, the difficult exams
and high expectations cause them to feel burdened. Secondly, dysfunctional family institutions are also
one of the causes of stress. Some teenagers' parents fight every single day. Eventually this would make
their heart break due to their loved ones fight. Some other teens' parents might have affairs, leading to a
chance of a parent being replaced. Nobody likes it when one parent walks away due to cheating. The
emotional rollercoaster would eventually cause the teen to be burdened by stress and sometimes
depression.
To overcome stress one should avoid negative thinking. Acknowledge the positive things in your
life and begin to re-establish some balance in your emotional register. Avoid focusing on only the bad
things that happened during your day but consider the good as well. You should always stop and count
your blessings. Write down even the simplest things that you have and enjoy: A roof over your head, a bed
to sleep on, food, warmth, security, good health, friends and family.
Finally, eating properly is one of the best ways to overcome stress. Your body need to be healthy,
happy and fuelled to help you tackle stress. Like it or not, stress is a bodily reaction that reacts to anything
that disturbs its natural state meaning that your body may have a profound effect on producing and
relieving stress. Hence by eating properly, your body may relieve stress on its own if given enough time.
Question 3: During Covid-19
You have been asked to share some advice and ways on how students in boarding schools can look after

Ways on how students in boarding schools can look after themselves

and manage their studies during the Covid-19 lockdown
By: Nik Zarif lmran

The Covid- 19 pandemic has changed the norm of today's society and that includes how
students studied during the lockdown in their respective boarding schools. The virus has a mortality rate
of 3.4% and causes difficulty in breathing, fatigue, headaches and the inability to taste food and has
infected 132 million people worldwide with at least 2.86 million left dead during the time of writing. So it
is clear that Covid-19 is not a virus we should mess around with and students have to look after
themselves while also managing their studies in their respective boarding schools. But how can you, as a
student, do that? It is remarkably simple and so I will share some advice and ways you can do so!
First and foremost, students must not have any kind of physical contact with one another during
the first two weeks of entering the boarding school premise. This means no hugging, hand shaking or any
other kind of physical form of contact in general as the novel coronavirus spreads via inhalation of
droplets containing the virus or touching objects that are contaminated with these droplets. This also
means that students must refrain from sharing objects even during emergencies as studies suggest that
the Covid-19 virus may persist for at least a few hours and up to several days outside of the host’s body.
Moreover, students also are encouraged to wash their hands frequently using soap and water or
an alcohol-based disinfectant. This is especially important if you're about to prepare food or when you get
back to the dormitories. You are also encouraged to wash your hands thoroughly after using the toilet or if
your hands are visibly dirty. This is to ensure that the pathogen does not enter your body via your hands
when they touch the mucus membrane of your eyes, nose and mouth. The soap and disinfectant can avoid
infections as the soap molecule can penetrate into the virus coat, splitting it apart and breaking the virus
open, releasing its contents into the surrounding soapy water only to be washed away by the running
water.
Furthermore, students are advised to keep their distance and avoid crowds. This means that every
student needs to keep the greatest distance from other people when coughing, at least one metre to avoid
breathing droplets which could carry the novel coronavirus if the person is infected, This also means that
every student has to follow the rules and regulations of certain areas such as the limit capacity
implemented in a room, or the minimum distance between two tables and so on. This technique of social
distancing can help prevent the transmission of Covid-19 between different individuals in a community.
Despite the social distance, students can still study with each other in groups of no more than five students
but all the group members must wear a mask throughout the discussions.
These tips and ways on how students can look after themselves and manage their studies are
designed to keep students safe from the pandemic while still allowing them to study. Remember that the
strict rules and guidelines are imposed on the students not to torture or be of hindrance for them but to
protect them from experiencing the pain affiliated with Covid-19 and I believe that every single one of the
students plays a role in curbing the rate of spread of coronavirus within the student community and help
put an end to the endeavour that is faced by humanity.

Question 1: Dessert Outlet

Write and submit a review of a dessert outlet that you have currently visited and enjoyed. Talk about
the food whether you would recommend it.

A Dessert Outlet Review: Soy-tisfying

Good news to all the sweet tooth out there! The dessert shop, Soy-tisfying has taken
Malaysia by storm as it serves a tantalizing (enticing/ mouth-watering) dessert that no Malaysian can
resist. Soy-based dessert have a rich of history in Malaysians as we used to savour (indulge/ enjoy)
them in night markets. Soy-tisfying dessert shop specialises in soy-based desserts and there is nothing
more satisfying than a scoop of Tau Fu Fah!
Their best seller, the Soy-tisfying signature, comes with made-from-scratch (hand-made)
bouncy sweet potato and toro balls lying on a bed of silky soft Tau Fu Fah. It is also garnished
(decorated) with topping such as red and black sesame paste. Once it touches your taste-buds
(tongue), it truly packs a punch (powerful effect)! what catches my eye is their Tau Fu Fah cheese
cake that is available exclusively during weekends! Not to mention, we can choose from an extension
range of toppings such as grass jelly, gingko nuts and so forth. An added bonus is when you opt for
takeaway services, it will be packed in an aesthetically pleasing box which is Instagram worthy!
As aforementioned (as I mentioned before), I would recommend it to every Malaysian out
there. It is made with top-notch (tip-top) ingredients and highly addictive! The price point reflects the
quality and it is worth every penny! If I were you, I would not miss it for the world!

Question 2: Restaurant
Have you been to a great restaurant lately? If so, send us an honest review of the restaurant
explaining what you liked and disliked of the place as well as its location, staff and how it look like on
the inside.

A Restaurant Review: California Cafe

Being a huge fan of traditional America fast food and restaurant styles,it’s no wonder that
my favourite restaurant in Malaysia is California Cafe. This restaurant is rather special and it is one of
its largest chain outlet and has a superior touch to it.
Located smack in the heart (middle) of the city, this fast food chain serves a wide variety of
mouth-watering, American dishes at a reasonable price. These range from typical nachos or French
fries to more elaborate meals like homemade steak. If you are hungry, it’s the best place to fill your
stomach as their servings are absolutely generous and sumptuous.
Another plus point is the ambience. This place is equipped with magnificent decor. If you
are a film buff, you will quickly fall in love with this place since all the walls are covered with famous
movie posters. It has a spacious hall, super friendly waitresses and an outdoor terrace which is
absolutely fantastic!
The only negative thing is that right beside of this restaurant, is a gym. It makes me feel
guilty for eating so much! Nevertheless, California Cafe offers delicious meals in an unbeatable
atmosphere, so you should give it a try! I promise you won’t regret it! Beside, you won’t burn a hole
in your pocket, that’s for sure.

Question 3: Fast food restaurant

You recently saw this notice in a newspaper. Write your review.

Best fast food restaurant !
Everyone loves fast food. Which is the best? Send us your review. Why do you think it is the best?
Would you recommend it? Why?

A Fast Food Restaurant Review: Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)

The best fast food restaurant is undoubtedly Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC for short! If you
ask me what I would rate the franchise out of 5, I would tell you that it is 5 out 5 a million times over.
One of the reason why I think it is the best is the fact that KFC cooks the best fried chicken in the fast
food industry. The fried batter is crispy and crunchy, the chicken is juicy and scrumptious and the
taste of everything I general is absolutely perfect. It does not matter which part of the chicken you
decide to eat, every bite brings joy and that is a fact.
Furthermore, the price offered by he joint is outrageously cheap to other fast food chains.
Imagine, a burger, a piece of fried chicken, French fries and soda will only cost about RM9.00. That
there is a full stomach with extras for later that cost half the price of that offered by other fast food
restaurant such as Mc Donalds or Burger King.
Moreover, the customer service provided by the fast food joint is simply the best. The policy,
“customer is always right” has never been broken since I can remember quite frankly I am impressed.
If there’s something wrong with your food or there’s a mistake in your order, they will gladly refund
you or make you another set of food. The employees there are also kind and polite towards the
customers and there has even been a video of a KFC manager treating a homeless man to lunch with
his own money as the man was starving.
All in all I would definitely recommend it to everyone I know because the fried chicken there
is delicious, the food sets are cheap and the staff are friendly not only to the customer but also to the
general public.

Question 4: Holiday Resort

Write an submit a review of a holiday resort that you have currently visited and enjoyed. Talk about

A Holiday Resort Review: Holiday Ville Resort

Chances are, you have been cope up way too long during the pandemic! Hence, Holiday Ville
Resort will be ideal holiday resort because it has prepared a myriad of (a profusion of ) family-friendly
activities, culinary delight (delicacies), and limited-time deals for perfect school holiday! The
beachfront resort offers a haven to enjoy a hassle-free holiday with plenty of space for social

Each room offers an uninterrupted view of the tranquil (serene/placid) blue ocean. The
staycation package include full board meals served in the privacy of one’s villa or ocean facing
restaurant, and complimentary antigen swab test prior before to arrival and departure. We can
unwind (let our hair down) and enjoy downtime (holiday) with our loved ones! It is aesthetically
designed (Instagram-worthy) with state-of-the-art amenities (modern facilities) such as a private
pool, lodge and outdoor dinning area. The resort has curated (planned out/ lined up) a profusion of
family bonding activities like movie night and marshmallow roasting by the beach. Lean a new skill by
joining a masterclass of watercolor painting organised by them. Opened for adult and children alike! It
allow us to create indelible memories and memorabilia (your own DIY) to take home.
On a final note, I would rate it a five out of five stars! An opulent getaway with Holiday Ville
is worth your every penny! I highly suggest it to all holiday-seekers to sign up now to enjoy a lavish
stay (luxurious/ an opulent) at Holiday Ville. The resort is an open to enjoy life’s little pleasure.

A Cafe Review: Not Just Another Cup Cafe

Those whose are new to Not Just Another Cup Cafe, welcome. It is a simple space furnished
with (completed with) dark wooden furniture further accentuated by soft yellow hues. The coziness
(comfort) brought by the surrounding enchanting (charming) drapery greens and potted plants is a
pleasant touch to the cafe.
For most city dwellers looking to sip a hot cup of good coffee, Not Just Another Cup Cafe is
definitely a must-visit. Joining the bustling Jalan Hang Jebat terrain, Not Jus Another Cup is a cafe that
is known for not only coffee but a wide variety of brunch fare. Do not forget to order the Ice Espresso
Latte as it will undoubtedly make a good post on your Instagram. There are many Insta-worthy
corners for you to takes photos too. This cafe also deserves a shout-out when it comes to the coffee
they serve. Did you know that the baristas here have won several awards?
Not Jus Another Cup cafe’s menu is a reflective a contemporary Melbourne cafe with some
delicious local influence. The kitchen team always takes no shortcuts, insisting on making everything
they possibly can in-house and from scratch. My favourite dish is avocado smash. Homemade
guacamole, feta cheese, roasted cherry tomatoes, and two perfectly poached eggs topped on a
sourdough toast, with a smear of cider beetroot puree to complete the dish. The topping is rich and
creamy with a burst of tanginess when you bite into the cherry tomatoes. The cider beetroot puree
provides a mild acidic note to enhance the overall flavors. Besides, I like the Superbowl before I have
even tried it. It got all of my favourite ingredients in one dish. Absolutely superb!
The team at Not Just Another Cup cafe is serious about their cafe, and I dare say they are
among the best quality cups in the city. The contemporary food menu is indeed flavorful but gently
so, allowing both food and beverage shine. Sincere cafe hoppers should add Not Just Another Cup
cafe to their route. This quaint cafe makes it right from smoothie bowls to pancakes, sandwiches and
pastas. Drop by (visit) Not Just Another Cup cafe, enjoy your cup of coffee, and unwind (relax) in their
beautiful setting. Highly recommended!

Question 6: Movie

Have you watched any movie recently? Send us your review! What did you like about the movie?
Would you recommend it to your friends? Why?

A Movie Review: The Amazing Spiderman

A stupendous (extremely impressive/ amazing) movie every individual should watch is - The
Amazing Spiderman that was released in 2012. the lead role is the talented Andrew Gorfield.
The lead role was a highschooler who possessed nerd-like (nerdy) qualities. In the film, Peter
Parker was bitten by a genetically altered spider. Without the slightest clue, the venomous, malicious
(evil) fangs pierced through his skin. He gained new-found (newly discovery), spider-like powers and
venture out (go out) to save the city from the machinations (a plot/ scheme) of mysterious reptilian
(resembling a reptile) foe. It is not every day to get bitten by a genetically altered spider and gain
superhuman strengths.
The scene that moved me is the heated argument (serious quarrel) between Peter and his
uncle Ben. Peter left home furiously. At a nearby delicatessen (selling ready eat product), a cashier
refused to let Peter buy milk when Peter was two cents short. When a thief suddenly raided (surprise
attack) the store, giving the can of milk to Peter, he allowed him to escape. Unfortunately, when uncle
Ben searched for Peter, he attempted to stop the thief and was killed in the process. The thief
escaped as Peter found Ben dead on the sidewalk.
The scene proves that family will always be there for us come what may (no matter what/
rain or shine). the scene between uncle Ben and Peter was heartfelt. I regard this film highly, it is a
well-written script. I would rate this film a nine out of ten. Throughout the film, the performances
were outstanding. It is an action-packed film with humour and heartfelt lessons.

Question 7: Book

Have you read any book recently? Send us your review! What did you like about the book? Would you
recommend it to your friends? Why? The best review will be published in our online magazines.

A Book Review: The Fault In Our Stars

I have just finished reading a breathtaking novel entitled The Fault In Our Stars. It is a mega
bestselling novel written by a renowned author, John Green. The novel which falls into the genre of
romantic fiction has impressed many young readers.
The story revolve around a teen girl, Hazel Lancaster, who is diagnosed with a stage 3
cancer. She can hardly remember life without cancer and has almost given up hope on her life. She
then meets Augustus Waters, a cancer survivor, who reads her favourite book for her and hangs out
with her. This helps her to gather strength. The two of them deal with cancer and love.
I enjoy reading the novel as it was written in a terific way. It makes us become a part of the
characters and feel the same emotions. Hazel and Agustus appeal to readers through their sense of
humour and their courage. But behind this courage, both of them hide their pain to protect their
families. The moral values that I learnt from the story is through a quote mentioned by Agustus, “ If
you want rainbow, you have to deal with the rain “ which means if we want something desirable, we
have to first go through the hardships.
The Fault in Our Stars is a beautiful novel and I would definitely recommend it to anyone
who believes in love and has the courage to fight for it. Through this book I realised that cancer not
just touches victims, but it also touches all these who love.

Question 1: A Snatch Theft

A Snatch Theft

As the maxim goes, “ Low crime does not mean no crime”. a concerning (pressing) issue in
Malaysia, some cases (instances) of snatch theft lead no fatalities (casualties), when person holding
onto the handbag has been dragged by the motorbike or through act of violence. The police has
always reminded Malaysian citizens to be careful (wary) of our surroundings at all cost (no matter
what). Criminals spring into action at the most unexpected timings. Never had I ever expected to
witness a snatch theft unfold right in front of my eyes.
Like any other sweltering (scorching hot) day, sweat broke out all over my body and
trickled down my back. A business woman was only a few inches away from me, dressed to the nines
(fashionable) and talking on the phone. I was running errands for my mother when out of nowhere,
an ear-shattering (extremely loud) scream pierced through my eardrums. Horror-stricken (terrified)
two men in black balaclavas whizzed out (appear in sudden) and started attacking the business
woman.
As audacious (very brave) as the day, the pillion rider lunged forward and tried to snatch the
lady’s Louis Vuitton handbag forcefully. Tugging (pull) her bag with brute force, the lady did not
surrender but started screaming at the top of her lungs. “ Help me! Someone! Help!”. I stood rooted
to the ground as I knew I was defenceless.
Lady luck was on our side (luckily), two burly onlookers came to her rescue. They knocked
both the criminals down by smacking their hapless backs with their fists. In that split second, both
snatch thieves fell onto the road with a thunderous thud. As weak as kittens, the burly men pinned
both of them down. Instantaneously, I dial 999. narrating to the police of what had witnessed, all
parties were relived that nobody was brutally inured.
All was well when the police arrived in the nick of time and apprehended both thieves. It
turned out that both thieves were fugitive as countless innocent women had fallen prey to their
violent acts. Their modus operandi was targeting working women who carried expensive bags. The
lady heaved (inhale & exhale) a sigh of relief and thanked all of us for our heroic responses.
After this distressing experience, I came to a realization that caution is the parent of safety.
This is due to the fact that unforeseeable criminals can strike anytime and anywhere. The rates of
snatch thefts can be greatly reduced with the joint efforts of the citizens and the police force.

Question 2: Sad and disappointed experience

Write a story about a time when someone hurt you and how the experiences has changed your life.
End your story with, “ It’s not just the pain, it’s who it came from. I’m just sad and disappointed.”

Sad and disappointed experience

“ Hi Jane! How are you recently?” A familiar voice reaches my ears. I turn around to see who
it is. When I see him, those terrible and hurtful memories flood into my mind unwillingly. I take a
stroll down memory lane.
Max was the man I loved. We decided to get married after being in a relationship for one
year. However, our decision was objected by my parents as they thought that it was still too early for
us to tie the knot (get married). they also believed that we did not understand and know each other
well enough. I stuck to my decision although it was clearly an unblessed wedding.
After a few months, I was pregnant. Max asked me to resign and be a housewife at home. I
agreed because I could feel his sincerity in taking care of me. Due to my pregnancy, he even hired a
maid to do all the household chores. I started enjoying the life of not having to wake up early to work.
As a couch potato, I watched movies all day long and ate snacks. I started to become fatter
and not as beautiful as before. My ugly appearance made my husband change his behaviour. Max
came back home every midnight and he even vented his emotions on me when he faced stress on his
job.
One day, in a bid to (in order to)repair our relationship, I sent a lunchbox to his company by
myself. However, I saw something that knocked the wind out of my lungs (surprise me). I felt as a
knife was stabbed into my heart and someone twisted it sharply. That was how heartbroken I was
when I saw Max hugging another woman.
Hurt and depressed, I left quietly and kept it as a secret. After my child was born, I assumed
that Max would take care of us. Maybe then he would be back to becoming the loving husband he
used to be. Once again, my hope was shattered when he came back home drunk one day. On his
collar, there were obvious lipstick stains.
“ Why did you betray me? Why? I cried out hysterically.
“ It’s none of your business.” He uttered.
“ Slap!” I just could not control myself anymore.
SLAM! Max left. I could not bear it anymore. I decided to divorce him. It was the most painful
moment of my life. I even fell into depression. My mother encourage me to stand back up and took
me to the hospital to seek treatment for my depression. “ Mommy!” When I heard my so calling me
for the first time, I was moved ti tears.
My son is my everything. He had inspired me to battle with depression. After I recovered, I
began to work as a clerk during daytime and a waitress in a restaurant at night. In order to provide a
better life to my son, I tried saving money to start a business. After my hard work for two years, I was
a successful restaurant operator. I did not rely on anyone.
Now, I am not the person I used to be. I earn money during the daytime and become a full-
time mother to my son at night. I am thankful as I made an important decision to file for a divorce
with Max. The experience has definitely changed my life for the better. Seeing Max again now on the
street, the painful memories resurfce. I walk away without saying anything. It’s not just the pain, it’s
who it came from. I’m just sad and disappointed.

lane.
That day, he returned home later than usual because had to burn the midnight oil for his
exams. The neighbourhood was as quiet as the grave but it never bother Alex as it was a usual sight.
As he reached the front gate of his humble abode (home), something was amiss (wrong). The front
door was ajar. Muddy food prints stamped the floors. Picking up stick, he walked stealthily towards
the front door and knocked it down.
“ Thump!” Narrowing his eyes to adjust to the engulfed darkness in the house, he notice a
burly (strong) figure advancing towards him. His brawny (strong) arms were raised with a bat in his
hand. Alex dodged before the bat came swinging down on him. It was a close shave. Turning around,
he hit out with all his might. The figure collapsed in a heap as Alex become overwrought when his
grandmother was nowhere to be found.
At that juncture, he heard a muffled shout coming from the doors. Kicking down the door, his
horror-stricken grandma was held hostage in the cellar with her mouth taped. Helping her out, Alex
carried his grandma and flee the place! At last, the policeman were notified and immediately sprang
into action to arrest the criminal.
Upon recalling this incident, Alex quickened his steps to complete his urgent errand - once
