Chapter 1

Network analysis is to study the requirements and needs from users, applications, devices that they
expected to get in network.

Network architecture is to study the relationship within and between network function and also to
make the choices of technology and topology for network.

Network design is the physical detail of network architecture and this process include the selection
of vendors and service providers, and also equipment types and configuration.

System is when all the components (users, applications, devices and network) that combine
together to provide connectivity and communications between users and their applications, data
stores, and computing devices and also to provide network services to the end users.

network services are network capabilities that can be managed and configured by the
network. Network service also are a set of requirements from the network that are expected
by the “system”. Network service are defined as levels of performance and function that are
offered by network, host, and application.

-Best-effort service means that there is no control over how the network will
satisfy the service request—that there are no guarantees associated with this service.
Such requests indicate that the rest of the system (users, applications, and devices)
will need to adapt to the state of the network at any given time. Thus, the expected
service for such requests will be both unpredictable and unreliable.
Example:Internet

-Guaranteed service must be predictable and reliable to such a degree that, when service is
not available, the system is held accountable.
A guaranteed service implies a contract between the user and provider.

- These are predictable services, which require some degree of predictability (more than
best effort) yet do not require the
accountability of a guaranteed service.

Example: real-time telemetry stream

-Capacity is a measure of the system’s ability to transfer information (voice, data,

video, or combinations of these).

-Delay is a measure of the time difference in the transmission of information across

the system.

– - Reliability (RMA – Reliability, Maintainability and availability):-

It is a measure of the system‘s ability to provide deterministic(确定性) and accurate delivery of

information

Chapter 2

-User requirements comprise the set of requirements that is gathered or derived from user input and

represent what is needed by users to successfully accomplish their tasks on the

system.

– - Reliability is a requirement for consistently available service

– Level of services to the users must be consistent

-Timeliness is a requirement that the user is able to access, transfer, modify information within a
"tolerable" time frame

– Adaptability is the ability of the system to adapt to the users' changing need

Why is requirements analysis important to network architecture and design? Give three reasons.

– Requirement analysis helps the designer to better understand the probable behavior of the
network. Resulting of :-

– More objective, informed choices of network technologies and services

– Ability to match interconnection (topology and technology) strategies to networks

– Networks and elements properly sized to users and applications

– A better understanding of where and how to apply services in the network
