III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY
A. PREPARATION
1. Prayer
, Please lead the prayer. Let’s bow our head and feel the presence
of the lord. In the name of the father and of
the holy spirit…Amen
2. Classroom management
Before you take your seats I want you to
pick a piece of papers under your chairs
and please align your chairs properly.
Okay you may take your seats.
3. Greetings Good morning Ma’am!
Good morning class!
4. Checking of attendance Yes Ma’am!
Is everybody present today?
Okay very good.
5. Review Yes Ma’am!
Class, can you still remember our last
topic?
Our topic last time was all about quadratic
Now, to test if you really remember. I inequalities.
would like to ask the class about our last
topic. So, what is our topic last time?
Okay Ma’am
Very good! I’m glad that you still
remember our previous lesson. So now,
let’s proceed.
B. LESSON PROPER
ENGAGEMENT
Before we begin our discussion lets have
first an activity called four pics one word. I
will group you into two groups then you
are going to identify what the pictures
shows. The first group who got the correct
3 words will be considered as the winner
and will automatically earn additional 3
points in the quiz.
EXPLORATION
From your group activity earlier. What
have you observed on the pictures or
words? It involves what?
Okay thank you for your answer. Anyone?
Answer’s may vary
Do you have any idea what is our lesson
for today?
That’s right!
Our lesson for today is all about quadratic
function using table of values, graph and
equation.
Here are the lesson objectives for today:
A. Define quadratic functions.
B. Represents a quadratic function using a
table of values, graph and equation.
C. Appreciate quadratic functions as vital
part of one’s life.
EXPLANATION
What is a quadratic function? A quadratic function is of the form f(x)=
ax2 + bx + c where a, b, and c are real
numbers and a ≠ 0. The highest exponent
of the independent variable of a quadratic
equation is 2.
A quadratic function can be modeled or
represented by situations in your daily
living and also in architectural structure.
Here are some examples of a quadratic
function:
Representation of quadratic functions
using Table of Values
We can determine if a given table of values
represents a quadratic function by using the
second difference test.
The second difference test
A relation is a quadratic function equal
differences in the independent variable x
produce nonzero equal second difference
in the function value of f(x).
Example: Determine which table shows a
quadratic function or a linear function.
1.
(student’s participates in class)
2.
We can determine if a given table of values
represents a quadratic function by using the
second difference test and we can
determine if it is a linear function if all the
values of the first differences are all equal.
How can we determine if it is a quadratic
function or a linear function?
Representation of Quadratic Functions It can form a smooth curve.
using a Graph
Yes, that’s correct! Tossing a ball to your
friend can form a smooth curve or a
parabola.
The graph of a quadratic function is a
smooth curve called parabola.
The minimum or maximum point of the
quadratic function is called vertex.
If the parabola opens upward, the vertex
represents the lowest point on the graph,
or the minimum value of the quadratic
function.
While, if the parabola opens downward,
the vertex represents the highest point on
the graph, or the maximum value.

Let’s have an example:
Determine whether the graph or object

represent a quadratic function or not.

Representation of Quadratic Functions
using Equations
The equation of a quadratic function is an
equation in the second degree. Its standard
form is in the form f(x)= ax2 + bx + c
where :
ax2 quadratic term or leading term in the
second degree
bx linear term or term in the first degree
c constant term
For example: Determine if each equation
represent a quadratic function.
1. f(x) = 3x2 + x + 1
2. f(x) = x + 1
3. f(x) = 2x(x + 3)
ELABORATION
Now let’s have a group activity (same
group). Form a circle and think about an
object or situation that represents a
(student’s answer may vary)
quadratic function then explain why do you
say that it is a quadratic function. One of
your members will explain in front.
Understand?
Generalization
Before we proceed to our quiz, let us recall A quadratic function is of the form f(x)=
again what is a quadratic function? ax2 + bx + c where a, b, and c are real
numbers and a ≠ 0. The highest exponent
of the independent variable of a quadratic
equation is 2.
Aside from real life activities, a quadratic A quadratic function can also be presented
function can also be presented through through (a) table of values, (b) graph, and

How about the Parabola? A parabola can open upward and
downward.
How about the others?
