Computer Software

• Software is a set of programs , which is designed to perform a well


defined function. A program is a sequence of instruction written to solve
a particular program.
• Software is programs or instructions that tell the computer what to do and
how to do it.
• Software forms the heart of computer systems.
• Computer software consists of a machine language = consists of groups
of binary values, which specify processor instructions.
• The term 'software' was first used by John Tukey in 1958.

the application software, and the computer’s hardware

Application Software

• Application software are the software that are designed to satisfy a


particular/specific need of a particular environment/task. All
software prepared by us.
• It is a group of programs designed to accomplish a single task or a
group of related tasks
• Business software, databases and educational software are some
forms of application software.
• e.g. used of Word, Excel or PowerPoint from Microsoft, Web
browsers(Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox) and anti-virus.

Features Of Application Software

• It is close to user.
• It is slow in speed
• It is easy to understand.
• It is easy to manipulate.
• It is to design.

• Collection of programs that are grouped together for the purpose of


providing public with different tools in the same family.
• A commercial program that is available to the public and sold to
them at particular prices.
• Microsoft Office Program that has many tools linked together such
as Office, PowerPoint, Access, Note, and Excel.

• A particular program that gets developed for one purpose within a


company or department.
• Accessible specifically for an organization for a purpose.
• JPMorgan is developing a program for the management
