ACTIVITY 1
Directions. In your own words, answer the following questions based on the lessons
provided. (10pts each)
1. Differentiate Art History from Art Appreciation
Art History and Art Appreciation may seem similar, but they are highly
different from each other. Art History is a study has something to do with the
history of the art. It refers to analyzing the artwork in the time that they were
created. As most arts portrays the way of living during the past. Art History
includes discovering who created the artwork, where, when and for what
reason. On the other hand, Art Appreciation refers to the exploration and
analysis of the art. It is highly subjective; it will depend on how the viewer will
see the artwork. As most individual have different view, taste, and preference
on an artwork. Further it tells us to look into the deep meaning of the artwork
and better understand and appreciate its meaning. The two of them will be
different in meaning but both have relevance and importance into studying
and appreciating the art.
2. Choose one definition of Art from the lesson and give your personal
interpretation.
Art is that activity which manifest beauty. Every art is a beauty as it was
produce by the artist creativeness. Most of the art we see predicts beauty
and aesthetic like a sculpture of a girl or a painting of a scenery. Hence, not
everyone will find art as a manifestation of beauty that’s why there’s a quote
“Art is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone will have their own
interpretation.” Some may find the art beautiful but some many not. Hence,
every artist put all their imagination and creativity into their artwork by that it’s
a manifestation of beauty.

3. Explain the following:

a. Art is universal
Art is everywhere, every place or country where we go there’s always an
art. Art is like something that we lived with us day by day. We may not notice
it that everything that we see that is man made is a form of art. Art rises
everywhere weather there are differences in culture and races, it has no limit.
From the past up to now art has been present and probably will still be
present in the future.
b. Art is not nature
Art is manmade, all arts that we see created by man. Not everything we
see in our eyes like in the natural environment is an art, unless it has been
made by a man. When we see something beautiful that is not made by man it
will be considered divine or created by God. It’s natural and unlike the art
made by man that is only artificial and temporary. Therefore, we can’t
consider nature as man made, man can make something similar to it but only
temporarily.
c. Art involves experience
Art is living with us day by day. Therefore, art must include your
presence. The way you dance to the beat, sing to the song, and how people
make their houses. Art involves us maybe we don’t notice it, but by simply
singing a song means were immersing ourselves in an art. Hence, art is
appreciated if we look more closely to it understanding it’s meaning and
context and let ourselves take part on it.
