ACTIVITY 1: Song Analysis
“NO MAN IS AN ISLAND” by John Donne

No man is an island I saw the people gather

No man stands alone I heard the music start
Each man's joy is joy to me The song that they were singing
Each man's grief is my own Is ringing in my heart
We need one another No man is an island
So I will defend Way out in the blue
Each man as my brother We all look to the one above
Each man as my friend For our strength to renew

 What is the message of the song? Write your answer in the box provided below.

In my perspective, the message of this song is about that no one is truly self-sufficient, everyone
must rely on the company and comfort of others in order to thrive. And how we aren't supposed to
go through life by ourselves. We often try to get through life's challenges, tribulations, and difficult
times, or even amazing moments, on our own. Generally understood to suggest that every member
of the human species must want or require interaction with others at some point. The notion can be
grasped if we consider that without interaction between two people and the resulting conception,
the human species would perish.
