5. If the interviewer asks you an illegal question, how should you respond. E.g. How old are you?
ANS:
Depending on the question I could refuse, answer or sidestep the question. Use a neutral and
professional tone. By pointing it out, you are putting the employer on alert that you're aware the
question is off-limits. If they continue to ask the illegal question, you do have the right not to
answer the question.
6. How should you respond to trick questions such as “What kind of people rub you up the wrong way?”
ANS:
Although the answers may be negative, we should try to give an overall positive motive. How to
deal positively with such people. The answer should show our positive mindset about people.

Assessment 3 - Observation
Your trainer needs to observe you demonstrating the essential interviewing skills in a simulated environment.
These skills can be observer during presentation.
Instructions: You will be participating in three job interviews; however you will only be assessed in your final job
interview with your trainer who will act as the interviewer and you will be the candidate. To prepare for that final
interview, each interview will be slightly different.
Interview 1. One on One Interview You will pair up with another student. You will be interviewed by
your classmate with no preparation time, they will ask you a list of questions and provide you with
individual feedback after the interview. You will also be asked to self-reflect on how you performed
during the interview. Please write below the improvements that you and your classmate identified.
Duration: Approximately 20 minutes duration per person 15 minutes interview + 5 minutes feedback.

Interview 2. Panel Technical interview You will now allocated into new groups of 4. You will be
required to locate a job advertisement in your chosen industry, and this will form the basis of your
interview with your trainer and the interview panel (4 classmates). This will be a panel interview and you
can be asked any question at any time by the interview panel. To prepare for this interview you must
supply the interview panel and your trainer a copy of the job ad 20 minutes prior to the interview. Your
trainer will be an observer. You may be asked the following:
● Technical questions relating to the ad, E.g. software/operating systems/accounting knowledge
used etc.
● Questions relating to key selection criteria.
● Questions about the company and the role.
The group (minus candidate), will also need to discuss prior to the interview:
● What questions will be asked? (Group to create a range of technical, essential key criteria,
Organisational and role questions)
● How many questions will be asked? A minimum of 12 questions will required.

This should be a faster paced interview and the candidate, and the interview panel will need to be
prepared. Please complete the interview review below.

Interview 3 The Final Interview This will be a one on one interview with your trainer. Your trainer will
use the following criteria to assess your performance in the interview. Your trainer will use a specific list
of questions but will also include some questions based from the job interview you provided for
interviews 3 & 4.

Gives relevant specific examples in answers
Structures answers well (uses STAR)
Uses appropriate language (not too informal, but not overly formal or wordy,
and sounds like spoken English, not something written and memorised)

Asks about the next step in the process (if not informed by the interviewer)

Once the interview is completed you will need to verbally reflect on your performance and will be
provided written feedback from your trainer on an interview grading sheet.
