” – Socrates
Socrates highlighted two things in this quote, knowledge and ignorance. In here, Socrates
emphasizes the relevance of knowledge and regards how dangerous ignorance can be, which I
certainly agree. Especially, these days were fake news are dominating in social media. It is
important for us to equip with knowledge for us to comprehend things thoroughly. In this way,
we will be able to know what is true from what is not. I’ve seen so many people clashing and
spitting nonsense endlessly just to justify their interest in a groundless manner. Reading with no
comprehension at all. With this, we can really conclude how dangerous ignorant mind can be.
Ignorance does not only destroy oneself but also harm the people around us.
2) “If the world is not perfect, it is not because God or the ideals, but because the raw materials were
not perfect.” – Plato
I personally think, in this quote, the message Plato’s tries to stress, is that there is no such thing
as perfect. The thoughts that I ponder here, is that, perfection is the product of oneself that lies
in one individual minds. That, in crossing situation where outcomes are not as close as what
perfect we perceived is, it’s because we lack in some ways. Possibly, it’s because of the lack of
efforts, actions or could be other variables that made it not perfect. Our ideals only serves as our
fundamentals in what perfection we ought to be and not something we blame when things goes
wrong.
3) The very perfection of a man is consummated – when he finds out his imperfections.” – Saint
Augustine
This quote implies more on self-acknowledgement. One must accept in order to embrace their
imperfections in life. People are born imperfect; we are bound to make mistakes along the way
and in the process, it is important for us to acknowledge flaws as part of growing up. Accepting
ones flaw produces a nice and healthy environment for ourselves. It helps us to understand that
even with at our imperfection, we are still beautiful. Personally, learning and admitting
imperfection puts me at peace, it makes me let go my insecurities and boost my confidence,
which I am very thankful by the way.
4) “It is not enough to have a good mind; the main thing is to use it well.” – Rene Descartes
Rene Descartes, in his quote, suggest that wisdom needs to be use in an appropriate manner.
That having a good mind alone does not really measure one’s intellect, but on how it is applied.
Which I agree. My takeaway from this is that I realize how powerful and dangerous one mind
can be if it is not use in a right way. Politicians, professionals, etc. for example (some). The
greater, knowledgeable and closer they are in laws, are likely they are the ones who commit
grave crimes. Moreover, I also notice, when it comes to intellect, people often feel superior to
others or sees their selves inferior to others whenever someone has more intellectual
advantage than they do.
5) “All mankind…being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health,
liberty or possessions.” – John Locke
As I see it, John Locke, in his quote highlights equality and equity of humankind. That, society
should treat each other fairly or equally regardless of the social class they are in. And, that no
man has the right to be the cause of sufferings of others.
