Case Study

A case study presents a real or imagined business scenario that describes a problem, conflict, or decision that must be addressed. It allows students to think like managers and apply their analytical, reasoning, and decision-making skills. There are two general approaches to solving a case study - thoroughly understanding the case and answering related questions, or using a SWOT analysis to identify the case's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Practicing case studies daily helps students gain practical knowledge in applying theoretical concepts.

What is a Case Study?

Before answering how to read case studies we need to first understand

what a case study is.

A Case Study is a document of real-life business scenario or an imagined

business scenario. The case study will present to you a problem, issue,
conflict, report or impending decision-making that needs to be addressed,
solved or analyzed for a business.

Why is Case Study Important?

A case study is designed to make you step into a manager’s shoes and think
like one. What if you are the manager, how would you solve this problem.

Solving a case study would make you explore your analytical, reasoning,
leadership and decision-making skills and most importantly make you
trust your educated instincts.

Case study method helps you to go a long way in applying your theoretical
knowledge and its practical application in a very dynamic way you know.

As a Manager (or a management student) you should be able to provide

realistic solutions to the problems presented in a case study. You should be
able to explain and justify your decision.
Application of such critical faculties while solving a case study makes it an
important feature in the curriculum of an aspiring manager.

How to Solve Case Studies?

There is no one way to solve a case study. Once you start solving a case study
you will have your own take on it. However, the things I’ve learned from my
teachers I put before you how to Solve a Case Study!

There are 2 ways to Solve a Case Study-General Way

 First Study the Case Thoroughly and try to understand the case in your way of
understanding. Once you understand the Case Study, now you need to answer
it this way.
 Write the General Concept of the Case in few points. (General Concept talks
about the points given in the case which have the weightage but not the main
concept of the Case Study).
 Write about the Core (Very Important) Concept of the case in few points. (Core
Concept talks or highlights the points which are having due importance and
without which there is Case Sudy).
 Answer the Questions given in the Case Study, while answering the questions
give an impression to the evaluator or to the teacher that you are well aware
about the Concept that is discussed in the case and you are well aware about
the Concept hidden in the Case Study.
 Conclude the Case Study in your style or in way i.e what you have learned or
understood from the case study and its applications in real life scenarios.
The Other way to Solve a Case Study is With the Aid of SWOT Analysis.
The SWOT analysis method is the situation analysis method. It is often used in
enterprise strategy formulation, competitor analysis and other occasions
including analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
Therefore, the SWOT analysis is a method that comprehensively summarizes the
various aspects of the internal and external conditions of the enterprise, and then
analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, opportunities, and
threats faced.
Through SWOT analysis, you can help companies to pool resources and actions
in their strengths and where there are the most opportunities; and to make their
strategy clearer.
 Strengths you can copy from the case itself and the facts that you are aware
or understood from the case.
 Weaknesses are the point that makes the Case Study bit weak, and you
keep in mind the impact of internal and External Environment on the Case.
 Opportunities are the point that gives the Case study a Life Line for
Survival and by which a company might looks for the ways and means to
get rid of the Problem or the Issue.
 Threats are the point that triggers the Case study a danger and if not
handled properly it might lead to the disastrous for the Company.
Need to understand that we need to Balance our Thoughts while answering the
Case Study with SWOT Analysis i.e we need to exactly restrict the S, W , O, &
T in the Same Number of Points, I mean to say write 2-4 point in all Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats

Answer the Questions given in the Case Study, while answering the questions
give an impression to the evaluator or to the teacher that you are well aware
about the Concept that is discussed in the case and you are well aware about the
Concept hidden in the Case Study.

Conclude the Case Study in your style or in way i.e what you have learned or
understood from the case study and its applications in real life scenarios.

LET US LOOK AN EXAMPLE…

Amazon SWOT Analysis:

1. Brand Identity: Amazon Is Synonymous With Online Sales Services, And
Amazon Focuses On Improving Customer Satisfaction During The Business
Process.
2. Pioneer Advantage: Amazon Is Undoubtedly The Leader In The Online
Retail Industry.

Its Cost-Leading Strategy. But Low-Profit Margins Make Companies
Vulnerable To External Shocks And Crises, As Well As Other Market
Changes.
2. Seasonality: There Is A Seasonal Difference Between Amazon’s Revenue
And Business Scope, With Sales And Revenue Peaking In The Fourth
Quarter Of Each Year.

Businesses Have The Opportunity To Enter The International Market.

2. Cybersecurity Issues
This is what I said to you earlier in this draft about the BALANCED
