EAD ASSIGNMENT 3

-Harshit Pandey (2K20/ME/110)

ANSYS:
Ansys develops and markets engineering simulation software for use across the product life
cycle. Ansys Mechanical finite element analysis software is used to simulate computer models of
structures, electronics, or machine components for analyzing strength, toughness, elasticity,
temperature distribution, electromagnetism, fluid flow, and other attributes. Ansys is used to
determine how a product will function with different specifications, without building test
products or conducting crash tests. For example, Ansys software may simulate how a bridge will
hold up after years of traffic, how to best process salmon in a cannery to reduce waste, or how to
design a slide that uses less material without sacrificing safety.
Most Ansys simulations are performed using the Ansys Workbench system, which is one of the
company's main products. Typically, Ansys users break down larger structures into small
components that are each modeled and tested individually. A user may start by defining the
dimensions of an object,] and then adding weight, pressure, temperature and other physical
properties. Finally, the Ansys software simulates and analyzes movement, fatigue, fractures,
fluid flow, temperature distribution, electromagnetic efficiency and other effects over time.
Ansys also develops software for data management and backup, academic research and teaching.
Ansys software is sold on an annual subscription basis.

PRINCIPLE –

ANSYS is a general-purpose, finite-element modeling package for numerically solving a

wide variety of mechanical problems. These problems include static/dynamic, structural
analysis, heat transfer, and fluid problems, as well as acoustic and electromagnetic
problems.

WORKING –

ANSYS Fluent CFD. Fluent is one of the two computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
packages included with the ANSYS computational mechanical software suite. Fluent is
a Green-Gauss Finite Volume Method with a Cell-Centered formulation (and we'll cover
what that means in a few minutes).

APPLICATIONS:

● ANSYS can import all kinds of CAD geometries (3D and 2D) from different CAD
software's and perform simulations, and also it has the capability of creating one
effortlessly. ANSYS has inbuilt CAD developing software's like Design Modeler and
Space Claim which makes the work flow even smoother.
● ANSYS has the capability of performing advanced engineering simulations accurately
and realistic in nature by its variety of contact algorithms, time dependent simulations
and nonlinear material models.
● ANSYS has the capability of integrating various physics into one platform and perform
the analysis. Just like integrating a thermal analysis with structural and integrating fluid
flow analysis with thermal and structural, etc.,
● ANSYS now has featured its development into a product called ANSYS AIM, which is
capable of performing multi physics simulation. It is a single platform which can
integrate all kinds of physics and perform simulations.
● ANSYS has its own customization tool called ACT which uses python as a background
scripting language and used in creating customized user required features in it.
● ANSYS has the capability to optimize various features like the geometrical design,
boundary conditions and analyse the behavior of the product under various criteria

MATLAB:

PRINCIPLE:

MATLAB is a high-performance language for technical computing. It integrates computation,

visualization, and programming in an easy-to-use environment where problems and solutions are
expressed in familiar mathematical notation.
WORKING:

The MATLAB system consists of five main parts:

The MATLAB language:

This is a high-level matrix/array language with control flow statements, functions, data
structures, input/output, and object-oriented programming features. It allows both "programming
in the small" to rapidly create quick and dirty throw-away programs, and "programming in the
large" to create complete large and complex application programs.

The MATLAB working environment:

This is the set of tools and facilities that you work with as the MATLAB user or programmer. It
includes facilities for managing the variables in your workspace and importing and exporting
data. It also includes tools for developing, managing, debugging, and profiling M-files,
MATLAB's applications.

Handle Graphics:

This is the MATLAB graphics system. It includes high-level commands for two-dimensional and
three-dimensional data visualization, image processing, animation, and presentation graphics. It
also includes low-level commands that allow you to fully customize the appearance of graphics
as well as to build complete Graphical User Interfaces on your MATLAB applications.

The MATLAB mathematical function library:

This is a vast collection of computational algorithms ranging from elementary functions like
sum, sine, cosine, and complex arithmetic, to more sophisticated functions like matrix inverse,
matrix eigenvalues, Bessel functions, and fast Fourier transforms.

The MATLAB Application Program Interface (API):

This is a library that allows you to write C and Fortran programs that interact with MATLAB. It
includes facilities for calling routines from MATLAB (dynamic linking), calling MATLAB as a
computational engine, and for reading and writing MAT-files.
APPLICATIONS:

● Math and computation

● Algorithm development
● Modeling, simulation, and prototyping
● Data analysis, exploration, and visualization
● Scientific and engineering graphics
● Application development, including Graphical User Interface building

ABAQUS:

Abaqus/CAE (interactive licenses) "Complete Abaqus Environment" It is a software application

used for both the modeling and analysis of mechanical components and assemblies (pre-
processing) and visualizing the finite element analysis result.

WORKING –

Every complete finite-element analysis consists of 3 separate stages:

• Pre-processing or modeling: This stage involves creating an input file which contains
an engineer's design for a finite-element analyzer (also called "solver").
• Processing or finite element analysis: This stage produces an output visual file.
• Post-processing or generating report, image, animation, etc. from the output file: This
stage is a visual rendering stage.
Abaqus/CAE is capable of pre-processing, post-processing, and monitoring the processing stage
of the solver; however, the first stage can also be done by other compatible CAD software, or
even a text editor. Abaqus/Standard, Abaqus/Explicit or Abaqus/CFD are capable of
accomplishing the processing stage. Dassault Systemes also produces Abaqus for CATIA for
adding advanced processing and post processing stages to a pre-processor like CATIA.
APPLICATIONS:

Abaqus is used in the automotive, aerospace and industrial products industries. The product is
popular with non-academic and research institutions in engineering due to the wide material
modeling capability, and the program's ability to be customized, for example, users can define
their own material models so that new materials could also be simulated in Abaqus. Abaqus also
provides a good collection of multiphysics capabilities, such as coupled acoustic-structural,
peizoelectric and structural-pore capabilities, making it attractive for production-level
simulations where multiple fields need to be coupled.
Abaqus was initially designed to address non-linear physical behavior; as a result, the package
has an extensive range of material models such as elastomeric (rubberlike) and hyperelastic (soft
tissue) material capabilities.

SSPS
SPSS is short for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, and it's used by various kinds of
researchers for complex statistical data analysis. The SPSS software package was created for the
management and statistical analysis of social science data.

PRINCIPLE –

It is a comprehensive and flexible statistical analysis and data management tool. It is one of the
most popular statistical packages which can perform highly complex data manipulation and
analysis with ease. It is designed for both interactive and non-interactive users.

WORKING -

Using the SAV format, SPSS automatically sets up and imports the designated variable names,
variable types, titles, and value labels, making the process much easier on researchers. Once
survey data is exported to SPSS, the opportunities for statistical analysis are practically endless.
APPLICATION -

SPSS (Statistical package for the social sciences) is the set of software programs that are
combined together in a single package. The basic application of this program is to analyze
scientific data related with the social science. This data can be used for market research, surveys,
data mining, etc.

SPSS is used by market researchers, health researchers, survey companies, government entities,
education researchers, marketing organizations, data miners, and many more for processing and
analyzing survey data, such as you collect with an online survey platform like Alchemer.

TORA

TORA Package is a computer application software package used for statistical computation and
analysis. It is an already written program or suite of programs written for statistical application.
It is basically applied for Operations Research (OR) analysis.

WORKING

TORA software offers modules for matrix inversion, solution of simultaneous linear equations,
linear programming, transportation models, network models, project planning with CPM and
PERT, queuing analysis, and game theory. TORA can be executed in automated or tutorial
mode. The automated mode reports the final solution of the problem, usually in the standard
format followed in commercial packages. The tutorial mode is a unique feature that provides
immediate feedback to test the user’s understanding of the computation process and details of
each algorithm. TORA is accessed in a logical and unambiguous manner, essentially eliminating
the need for a user’s manual.
Excel spreadsheet templates complements TORA modules for operations research analysis.
These templates includes linear programming, dynamic programming, analytical hierarchy
process (AHP), Poisson queues, simulation, and nonlinear models. Some of the templates are
direct spreadsheets.
APPLICATIONS

The TORA Optimization System is a Window-based software designed for use with many of the
techniques presented in this article.
The system can be used to solve problems in a tutorial mode or automated mode. The
tutorial mode is particularly useful because it allows concentration on the main
concepts of the algorithms while relieving the user of the burden of the tedious
computations that generally characterize Operation Research (OR) algorithm.
Applications of tora software

TORA Package is a computer application software package used for statistical

computation and analysis. It is an already written program or suite of programs
written for statistical application. It is basically applied for Operations Research (OR)
analysis.

TOra (Toolkit for Oracle) is a free software database development and administration
GUI, available under the GNU General Public License. It features a PL/SQL
debugger, an SQL worksheet with syntax highlighting, a database browser and a
comprehensive set of database administration tools.
