MODULE 2
CREATIVITY, IMAGINATION AND EXPRESSION
The Activities/Assessments

 Let’s Work On This

Answer the following questions as precisely yet as thoroughly as possible.

1. What art field will you explore? Why?

Literary Art because there are many things to explore and to learn. It’s not just a
one man show. There are different roles to do. Each roles have different approach
like being an actor, acting coach, props man, sound effect artist, music supervisor,
and director. I can learn it one by one but not all at the same time. And these roles
involve experience through the years of being in a cast of a movie or a performance.
I believe it can grow a person’s talents and be much better in the future. I’m a fan of
movies and drama. I have a big respect to writers and behind the scenes staff for
creating such an amazing masterpiece. Of course, the actors and actresses for
giving their all to portray their characters well. I realized it’s not just a work for them,
but it’s the life they want to live and teach audience whatever moral lesson they can
get with the film.

2. How can you utilize the arts to express yourself, your community, and your relation to
others?

In order to utilize art, I should make use of my talents because it is us, who
create art and not the art itself. Creating an art is also an influence from other people.
Sometimes we get inspired by the people around us and that is where our
relationship with others connects and bind us together. The more we engaged in this
activity, the more we can make numerous and diverse art.

MODULE 3
FUNCTIONS AND PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE ON ART
Activities/Assessment

 Let’s Work On This

Answer the following questions as precisely yet as thoroughly as possible.

1. What art form/artwork has changed something in your life? Why? Account for the
experience.

I am 21 years old but I’m still an avid fan of K-pop Group EXO for almost 10 years this
year. EXO fans are called EXOL. Maybe for some people teenagers like us waste our time and
money for those K-pop artist who doesn’t even know we exist. But that is not the same for
me. I spend my youth with them, and they are not like any other group that I know. What I
mean is… They are like a home. EXO is EXOL home. A home you can always return to-
whenever you are. We have a strong connection only I can understand and quite different
from my family. To me, there’s this huge connection I can’t describe nor explain that made me
stan them for life. Chen is a member of South Korean Chinese boyband called EXO. I admire
their group for having a soulful and good vocal quality. To make the story short, Chen
announced his marriage and girlfriend pregnancy. That time, I am shocked, and I cried
because I didn’t know I have so much love for him. I didn’t hate him for having a family. After
the news confirmation Chen’s penned a handwritten letter for EXOL. He expressed he has a
girlfriend who he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But it became the most
controversial news in K-pop. Many fans file for a petition, throw bad comments and received
death threats to make him leave the group but thankfully it all failed. It’s like him against the
world. After 10 months, he released a song Hello. Its lyrics is said to be a letter to EXOL
before he enlists to the military. Chen’s Hello Album Cover is the one who changed my life.
The artwork is Chen himself. Through the artwork, I understand the deeper meaning of it. I
learned that it’s a wake-up call to fans like me to normalize idols dating. Having a family is not
a mistake but a greatest blessing of all time. He is the bravest man and idol I admire. A man
must be like him who is responsible and face whatever the public has to say. A man who will
fight for her wife and daughter. K-pop fans is not used about idols having a relationship until
now, but EXO Chen is the first artist to have a courage to express his feelings publicly. A year
later, another artist from another kgroup made an announcement similar like him and receive
a lot of love from fans. A man like Chen will make a difference and being someone who is not
ashamed of being a father deserve all the happiness in this world. To sum it up, Love is not
something to live in fear nor regret. And If love is considered wrong, then I wouldn’t be in this
world, don’t you think? Of course, not just me. Maybe we both are not living today. Currently,
EXO Chen and his family welcome second baby while serving in the military. All in all, Art has
been here with me improving myself, understanding situations, and appreciating what’s in
front of me. It changed me through experiencing what real life is.

2. Does art always have a function? Why? Support your response. Provide your own
example.

Yes, art always have a function. For example, an architectural structure like Namsan
Tower is a multipurpose tower in korea. It provides a beautiful sight seeing for tourist, and
many activities to enjoy nearby like hang a love padlock, experience the main observation
deck, dress up hanbok, take a photo, pick dining options, go to the namsan park, namsan
cable car and Namsangol Hanok Village. This are all functions that entertain the public. A
poem is created to express one’s experience or idea. Isn’t it a function when the readers
wondered, understand and learned something by reading poem. In music, it’s a function when
listeners are touched and entertained by the song. In theatre, its already a function when the
audience was moved, express emotions like hope or sorrow and got satisfied with their
performance. In dance art, its also a function when the audience enjoy watching the dancers
dancing in a stage because it can make people happy and inspired. In painting, once the board
is filled its already serve its purpose. Especially when people try to re-balance and appreciate
things that artist worked hard for. In photography, it’s a function when a photographer
captures a moment of a person’s life and will be kept as a printed memory. Art is composed of
7 functions namely: appreciation, growth, self-understanding, re-balancing, memory, hope
and sorrow.

3. If an artwork ceased to have a function, will it remain an art? Why?

As I said before, artwork is a human creation. Even if the artwork function stopped, it
will remain as an art simply because it doesn’t change the fact that it came from an idea,
experience, and a way of expressing a message coming from the artist perspective. That’s why
art is considered ageless and timeless because the artist intention remains the same and that’s
what matters.

 Let’s Make It Happen

Look around your house and identify a product of art. In the box below, paste a picture of
that product of art in your household. Trace the beginnings of this item and identify what function
it has played in history (e.g., a painting of the Last Supper in your dining room or a spoon).
This is my long-time toy when I was a daycare. I remember this is the rewards from our
Children’s Day Celebration. My mother and I participated in a game where we both need to collect
trash around the venue. We made it in first place for collecting a sack of trash. It is my first ever toy
and even though I don’t remember my first impression to it I know I’m the happiest person back then.
It’s really a cute toy for a child like me. I can push it up and down. Even my youngest sister played
with it too. And it can make her day. I asked my aunt who gave me this since it’s been a long time and
I’m thankful it’s still here with me. They said this is from the staff of ABS-CBN who came all the way
in our town and that makes it even more special. It gives me entertainment playing with it,
appreciation for the things I worked hard for, hope to win prizes, sorrow when other kids get my toy
without my permission, growth, and self-understanding that toys make you enjoy your childhood
days, and it will remain as a memory in the past.
MODULE 4
SUBJECT and CONTENT

Activities/ Assessment
 Let’s Work On This

Answer the following question as precisely yet as thoroughly as possible.

1. What are the hurdles of accessing art in terms of its subject and content?

One of the major hurdles that affects the subject, and its content is the artist,
itself. Artist is crucial in the creation of an art and if the artist don’t know what or how
to put the ideas into places… it will be difficult to create an artwork.

2. Where do artist source their subjects?

Artist is the source of their subject. It can be either inspired by experience or

through the artist motive.

3. Name an example of an artwork and speculate on the content of the artwork

based on its factual, conventional, and subjective manners.

ARTWORK : Leonardo Da Vinci, Mona Lisa, 1503-19

FACTUAL MEANING

The famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci has been on display at the Louvre in
Paris since 1797.

CONVENTIONAL MEANING

The committee members found that the right eye contains the letters LV, which they
theorize could stand for Leonardo Da Vinci's name. Vinceti added that the arch of the bridge
in the background contains the number 72, but that it could also be an L and the number 2.

SUBJECTIVE MEANING

The original name of the Mona Lisa was Monna Lisa, but a spelling mistake made it
the Mona Lisa. In Italian, Monna means Madonna, which means 'My lady'. Although many
believe the painting was created in the image of Lisa Gherardini, others believe that it is a
self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci himself.

MODULE 5
ELEMENTS and PRINCIPLES of ART

ACTIVITIES/ASSESSMENT
 Let’s Work On This

Answer the following question as precisely yet as thoroughly as possible.

1. What are the elements of art?

The elements of art are visual, shape, form, space, color, and texture.

2. In two-dimension artwork such as paintings, cite the elements and principles of art
that when utilized in the composition of the artwork, will help simulate or suggest the
three- dimensional space?

The following elements are included in two-dimensional painting such as Color, form,
line, shape, space, and texture. It also includes principles of art like its size, proportion,
harmony, variety, rhythm, density, form, distance, balance, height, perspective, and depth are
art concepts.

3. What is the relevance of combined arts and hybrid art in the twenty- first century?

Combined and hybrid is both an art. It doesn’t matter which one is the first art to be
created. What matters is art continuously add value and improved over time. Old artwork
inspired new artwork to be much better and attracts one’s interest. Art history will always
be discovered and remain through the artist imaginations.

 Let’s Make It Happen

Create a poster for your favorite film

1. Using the elements and principles of art as guide, redesign the poster of your
favorite film.
2. The poster must clearly reflect the use of elements and principles of art. It is not
required that all elements and principles be represented in the poster.
3. Prepare to show the poster in class without revealing many clues on the film,
allow your peers to guess what film is represented in the poster.
Title : Dew the movie
This film is the one I indicated in my favorite Dew the movie in module 1. All the color included
here represent a mixed emotions such as yellow which represent the color of happiness, red which
represent love and grey represent sadness, orange represents bravery, blue represent trust and loyalty,
black represent dramatic, and green represent growth and healing. As you can there’s two people in the
poster and it is Dew and Pop who experience everything together. This is one of a painful boy’s love
movie and a famous one for its superb storylines. This movie explores a family perception about love,
homosexuality, and tackles reincarnation or rebirth in the religion of Buddhism which is practiced almost
95% of Thailand. The motorcycle illustration has a huge role here, it is their transportation and offered
them to enjoy life by riding down the street. People may have different opinion about the whole story
but for me it is beautiful in its own way. In this film, dew died in the first half but got reincarnated as
Pop student named Lew in a woman’s body. Pop is already married but decided to go in their separate
lives since her wife knows they are not happy having each other. During the last part, it clearly shows
that Lew (Dew) and Pop decide to be together after 23 years and Lew’s memories came back.
