com/How-do-you-make-an-Android-or-iOS-app

There are several general purpose cross platform app development platforms:

 Apache Cordova, which lets you write your app in JavaScript (or any
language that compiles to JavaScript), has a number of frameworks and
services built on top of it, including Ionic Framework , Telerik Platform,
and PhoneGap. These probably are the easiest to learn and use.
 React Native also lets you use JavaScript to create a cross platform app, but
unlike the other JavaScript options above you can create native controls
using JavaScript. Because the controls are native, you get native speed. Like
Cordova, though, you need to drop into native code to access native APIs.
And when you create native controls, you need to customize their look for
Android an iOS separately, meaning you get only about 80% code reuse.
 NativeScript is new option that allows you to develop in JavaScript like
Cordova or React, gives you direct access to native controls (and speed) like
React, but does a better job of code sharing: You request native controls
once and it sets them up on Android and iOS without additional work.
Finally, you don't need to use native code to get to (most) native APIs: It
automatically binds JavaScript code to native APIs so you can call them
directly.
 Meteor is another JavaScript based cross platform solution, and it's unique
in that you can write code that will run on both the client and server, as well
as being able to run the same app as a Web app. If you need your app to
interact with a database or a server, this may be the simplest approach. It
leverages Cordova as part of its stack, but it includes the full stack, so I'm
giving it its own bullet point.
 Kivy: Cross-platform Python Framework lets you write your app in Python.
It's not using native controls, so if you want a native feel, it's probably not
ideal. But it uses OpenGL accelerated controls, so instead of the
(potentially) slow WebView underlying Cordova, you get a high-
performance renderer driving your app. For completely custom skinned
apps, especially those with a real time component, this might be a strong
option.

o Ionic Framework
o Framework 7

https://blog.jscrambler.com/10-frameworks-for-mobile-hybrid-apps

1. React Native
With React Native, you can build mobile apps using only JavaScript. It uses
the same design as React, letting you compose a rich mobile UI from
declarative components.

Using this framework, you don't build a "mobile web app", an "HTML5 app", or
a "hybrid app". You build a real mobile app that's indistinguishable from an
app built using Objective-C or Java. React Native uses the same fundamental
UI building blocks as regular iOS and Android apps. You just put those
building blocks together using JavaScript and React.

If you're already creating apps with React Native, make sure you are
protecting their code by following our guide.

2. Ionic Framework

The Ionic Framework is a complete open-source SDK for hybrid mobile app

development. It provides tools and services for hybrid mobile app
development using Web technologies like CSS, HTML5, and Sass. Apps can
be built with these Web technologies and then distributed through native app
stores to be installed on devices by leveraging Cordova.

This framework is 100% free and open-source, licensed under MIT and
powered by a massive worldwide community. They have over 120 native
device features like Bluetooth, HealthKit, Finger Print Auth, and more with
Cordova/PhoneGap plugins and TypeScript extensions. You can use their CLI
to create, build, test, and deploy your Ionic apps onto any platform. The
framework has the Ionicons icon pack with hundreds of the most common app
icons. And you can develop your apps by Live Reload because to compile and
redeploy your app at every step of development is for chumps. And there are
more useful features like deep linking, AoT Compiling, and a custom
animations API.

Ionic is framework-agnostic and has official support for React, Preact,

Angular, and Vue, as well as for Web Components. Ionic version 5 brought
lots of UI updates.

Side Note: Protecting Your Ionic Source Code

We have a comprehensive tutorial on how to protect your Ionic mobile hybrid

app. If you want to make sure that nobody is able to reverse-engineer, steal,
or tamper with your code, you may want to take a look at it here!

3. NativeScript

Originally created by Progress, NativeScript apps are built using JavaScript,

or by using any language that transpiles to JavaScript, such as TypeScript, for
instance.

This mobile app framework has deep integration with modern Angular
versions, including full-stack features like integration with the Angular CLI,
router support, and code generation. It also includes integration with Vue via a
community-developed plugin, which enables using the Vue CLI, Vuex, and
other nice Vue.js features.

So, what does a hybrid app built with NativeScript look like? Well, mobile
applications built with NativeScript are actually fully native apps and use the
same APIs as if they were developed in Xcode or Android Studio. This means
you get platform-native UI without WebViews and running with native
performance.

Additionally, software developers can re-purpose third-party libraries from

Cocoapods, Android Arsenal, Maven, and npm.js in their mobile applications
without the need for wrappers.

Side Note: Protecting Your NativeScript Source Code

Progress Telerik has recommended Jscrambler as the solution of choice to

protect NativeScript Applications! See our integration guide here.

4. Quasar
The Quasar Framework is powered by Vue.js and enables developers to write
code a single time and deploy simultaneously as a website (SPA, PWA, SSR),
mobile app (iOS, Android) and desktop (using Electron) using a single code
base.

Out of the box, Quasar brings state-of-the-art UI, following Google Material
guidelines. It also offers HTML/CSS/JS minification, cache busting, tree
shaking, sourcemapping, code-splitting & lazy loading, ES6 transpiling, linting
code, and accessibility features, while keeping a small performance overhead
- actually, the creators of this hybrid mobile app framework claim that it is "the
most performance-focused framework".

With the Quasar CLI, developers also benefit from additional features such as
hot-reloading. One of the frameworks most praised benefits is its very
thorough documentation and active community.

It's worth mentioning that Quasar is 100% free, open-source, and licensed
under MIT.

5. Kendo UI

Kendo UI provides a very extensive collection of JavaScript UI components

with libraries for jQuery, Angular, React, and Vue for creating hybrid mobile
apps.

Powered by Progress Telerik (the same parent organization of NativeScript), it

comes packed with dozens of ready-to-use widgets for jQuery, Angular,
React, and Vue. Kendo UI is focused on allowing development teams to
quickly build high-performance hybrid mobile apps with excellent
performance.

The framework is open-source, but it is aimed at enterprise customers - so no

free version is available as of right now. One of the key selling points of Kendo
UI is that you get world-class support and the guarantee that every
component has been thoroughly tested by their strict QA process.

Among the most noteworthy Kendo UI clients, we find HP, NASA, and over
140,000 other companies across the world. It is definitely a framework to
consider if you're looking for an enterprise-grade solution with dedicated
support.

6. Framework7

Framework7 is a free and open-source mobile HTML framework to develop

hybrid mobile apps, web apps, and progressive web apps (PWAs) with native
look and feel. Plus, it can be paired with extra tools like Electron and NW.js,
allowing you to build native desktop apps.

The framework can be an indispensable prototyping tool to show working app

prototypes as soon as possible in case you need to. It is focused on iOS and
Google Material design to bring the best experience and simplicity.
Much like similar frameworks, Framework7 offers a rich ecosystem of
components for popular JS frameworks the likes of Vue, React, and Svelte.

Some useful features provided by Framework7 are native scrolling, library-

agnostic, pages transition animation, multiple views support, hardware-
accelerated animations via CSS3, route pages by using the combination of
XHR, caching, browser history and preloading.

7. Aurelia

Aurelia characterizes itself as a "collection of Modern JavaScript modules,

which when used together, function as a powerful platform for building
browser, desktop and mobile applications". As such, any of Aurelia's modules
can be used on its own in any JavaScript or Node.js project.

With a focus on clean yet powerful code, Aurelia is especially aimed at those
who prefer to use vanilla JavaScript or TypeScript. In fact, they go so far as
claiming that they are "the only framework that lets you build components with
plain, vanilla JavaScript/TypeScript". Still, because it strictly follows web
standards, it can readily be integrated with any framework or library out there.

As for its features, some of the most powerful Aurelia modules include
metadata, dependency injection, binding, templating, and routing. Its
ecosystem includes plugins for state management, internationalization and
validation, as well as tools like a CLI, Chrome debugger, and VS Code plugin.
And because Aurelia is based on a high-performance reactive system, it
batches DOM updates faster than virtual-DOM-based frameworks.

This hybrid mobile app framework is 100% free to use, open-source, and
licensed under the MIT license.

8. Onsen UI
Onsen UI has quickly grown in adoption since its release in 2013. It is an
open-source framework under the Apache v2 license. Onsen UI is framework-
agnostic UI components, you can choose and switch among the frameworks:
AngularJS, Angular, React, and Vue.js or go pure JavaScript to build your
hybrid apps.

The framework architecture consists of three layers: CSS components, Web

components, and framework bindings. It also features a large collection of
ready-to-use, responsive out-of-the-box components.

This framework is very easy to use, flexible, has semantic markup

components, and is free to use for commercial projects.

9. Ext JS
Ext JS is an enterprise-grade product for building cross-platform end to end
mobile web apps with HTML5 and JavaScript. It is especially fit to build data-
intensive, cross-platform web and mobile applications.

This hybrid mobile app framework isn't afraid to state that it is "The Best
JavaScript Framework In The World". And in fact, among the 10k companies
using the framework, we find Apple, Adobe, Cisco, Nvidia, and many other
global enterprises.

For individual developers and freelancers, Ionic, Onsen UI or Framework7 will

be a better choice - but, for enterprise applications, Ext JS leads the way.

ExtJS scores highly against its competitors by providing a native look and feel
across all of the platforms it supports. It helps create high-performance apps
with near-native experience and packs ready-to-use widgets with native look
and feel for all leading platforms including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and
Blackberry. The framework also features a drag and drop HTML5 visual
application builder with tons of ready to use templates. It has built-in support
for Angular and React.

10. Axway Appcelerator

Appcelerator (also known as Appcelerator Titanium) is a JavaScript-based

hybrid app framework. It is cross-platform with full support for Android and
iOS. In the end, the compiled code is a combination of native and JavaScript
that improves a better performance for mobile hybrid development. It has
integrations available for Angular and Vue.

Appcelerator is a good solution for creating hybrid mobile apps. To get started
with Appcelerator, download Titanium studio. The Titanium SDK is equipped
with a number of mobile platform APIs and Cloud service to use as an app
backend. It comes with platform-independent APIs which makes it easier to
access phone hardware.

Appcelerator uses Hyperloop to join the cross-platform power of Titanium with

direct access to any native API using JavaScript. The framework has both free
and paid plans.

11. Svelte Native

Svelte Native is the youngest framework on this list for hybrid app
development. With the Svelte framework quickly growing in popularity among
web developers thanks to its simplicity, the mobile framework quickly followed
in its footsteps.

Svelte Native is powered by Svelte and NativeScript. So, while mobile app
frameworks like React Native perform the bulk of their work on the actual
mobile device, Svelte Native takes a new approach by shifting that work into a
compile step at build time.

Plus, rather than relying on techniques like virtual DOM diffing, Svelte creates
code that updates native view widgets when the app's stage changes.

Be aware that, since this framework is still in its early stages, you may
experience some issues. And, who knows - maybe this will be the next big
thing in hybrid mobile app development.

12. Xamarin
Xamarin is a Microsoft-owned San Francisco California-based software
company founded in May 2011 which has cross-platform implementations of
the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) and Common Language
Specifications (often called Microsoft .NET).

With a C# shared codebase, developers can use Xamarin tools to write native
Android, iOS, and Windows apps with native user interfaces and share code
across multiple platforms, including Windows and MacOS. Xamarin is the top
hybrid mobile app development framework. It saves your time regarding re-
utilizing abilities, tools, teams and the best significant part is code. You can
influence the array of Xamarin and Android APIs as well as design an
amazing experience for glass with the Android SDK and GDK.

Conclusion

Hybrid app development has grown immensely over the past few years. It's no
wonder that many development teams are opting-in for hybrid mobile apps
instead of their native counterparts - they provide faster development, easier
prototyping, and a reportedly better ROI.

If you're planning to develop a mobile application, choosing the hybrid model

can also help you build apps for web and desktop more easily as a way to
reach more customers.

And with the advancements we've seen in the JavaScript ecosystem and in
each of the hybrid mobile app frameworks presented on this list, hybrid mobile
apps today are closer than ever to native apps, both in their overall look and in
performance.

1. Ionic

When we talk about the best framework for mobile app development 2021, Ionic is
amongst the most popular frameworks to exist today. The front-end HTML is built on top
of AngularJS and Cordova using the most upbeat APIs including Shadow DOM and
Custom Elements. The official integration with Vue (for support) is in progress. With
Ionic, you’ll find it quite easy to build PWAs or Progressive Web Apps. Learning Ionic is
easy for developers and it makes it enjoyable to use the framework.

It has a rich library with front-end building along with premier user interface components
that enable a developer to create top-notch PWAs. It also enables developers to create
fantastic designs and graphical representations in the apps. UI design aspects like
image design and placement, typography, innovative themes, etc. are things that the
Ionic mobile hybrid framework will help a developer achieve.

The Ionic CLI (Command Line Interface) is a medium/tool which helps you in developing
hybrid apps built with TypeScript and Node.js. It helps you to build a hybrid mobile app
and get regular updates. The Ionic CLI provides you with an inbuilt development server,
debugging tools along catalyze other pits facilities.

Minimum requirements are Android 4.1 and iOS 7. Ionic has helped more than 5 million
apps to take genesis.
Thumbs Up

2. React Native
The answer to the, What is hybrid framework?, developed as a web-interface
development platform in 2013, React Native was officially released to develop hybrid
mobile applications in 2015 by Facebook. One of the best hybrid app development
frameworks, React Native earned a pretty good reputation in 2020 which is expected to
continue throughout 2021 as well. Many pits React Native against ionic as they consider
them as common alternatives. While experts argue that Ionic leads to better UI and
performances among apps, React Native, on the other hand, gives the users an almost
native-like experience among apps with more stability. React Native has a huge
potential to become one of the best hybrid mobile app development frameworks in the
coming years.

Command over React Native depends purely on its usage. What this means is a
developer may not gain expertise over it in the first few usages. One has to spend some
time with the mobile hybrid framework to comprehend the reactive pattern. But more
than that, it’s the restricted UI features and the native features which compel developers
to code more and more. Of course, given there are a lot of great things one gets to learn
with it as well.

Among application development frameworks, React Native is extensively used to create

iOS and Android apps. With a single JS codebase, it allows developers to make
innovative mobile apps. Developers who are fluent in Java and Swift love to work on the
React Native framework. It comes with Native modules and components which help in
boosting the performance of an app.
Many react-native companies are adopting the framework to build hybrid mobile apps
for tomorrow. Brands like Facebook, Instagram, 2048 Discovery VR, Gyroscope, etc.
are using this best hybrid development framework to develop world-class apps.
Thumbs Up
 Expense saving with max code reuse
 Native code rendering
 Node.Js supported
 Easy identification of bugs
 Node Packet Manager (NPM) installation makes it easy to use for budding
developers.
 Live reload with two screens- one for code modification and the second to
preview the changes
 Time taken for the development process to complete is very less
 Lots of plugins to enable compatibility with hardware components of a device
Thumbs Down
 Not the best for apps having numerous screens, UI transitions, heavy special
effects, and lots of interactions
 Needs improvement in accessing hardware components
 Shortcomings in the form of navigation components.
 Insufficient custom modules
Website: https://facebook.github.io/react-native/
3. Flutter
If you are still wondering, “What is the best framework for mobile development?”, then
keep reading this list further. There has been a lot of hype regarding Flutter in the last
two years. Google’s premier open-source SDK has earned the respect of developers
worldwide. Flutter uses the powerful language Dart, another magnum opus of Google’s
and the C++ rendering engine. The hybrid mobile app framework also uses Skia, a 2D
rendering engine to make visuals. It is quick and aids to create superb foundation
libraries and widgets.

Flutter enables developers to create apps with high-productive value as it has a single
codebase for Android and iOS. It makes room to create highly creative UIs with flexible
designs and allows compelling interactions that lead to the creation of brilliant MVPs
(prototypes). That’s why big brands want Flutter to develop their apps.

There is something about Google’s innovations because every new development of

theirs is a hot topic of discussion among tech forums. Big names like Alibaba, Birch
Finance, Hamilton Musical, etc. have adopted Flutter to create powerful, engaging apps.
And since it allows learning the absolute new language (Dart), it’s created a lot of hype
and jobs in the market. More and more app development companies are adopting
Flutter to develop engaging hybrid apps which the user will love to use. But if you
thought, that’s it then let me drop a bigger Fact Bomb. Flutter and Fuchsia will be
working together!
YES, you heard that right. Fuchsia which is Google’s new powerful mobile OS will have
its app developed through Flutter SDK.
Thumbs Up
 Apex choice for cross-platform development
 Lightning Fast
 Hot reload feature- enabling coders to see the changes in the app right away.
 Smooth UI designs with unorthodox design elements
 The absolute choice for MVP
 Dynamic code writing
 Provides own widgets
 Compatible with Fuchsia
Thumbs Down
 Very new; it still might have a lot of ground to cover
 Lack of profile data completion (iOS)
 Apps created via Flutter are (on average) 40 percent bigger in size than native
apps.
 Developers need to learn Dart before using Flutter
 Some features have minimal support
Website: https://flutter.dev/
4. PhoneGap

With so many great hybrid mobile app development frameworks out there, why would a
developer (still) prefer PhoneGap? First, let us know what it is.

PhoneGap is also known as Apache Cordova as it is supported by the Cordova

framework and Adobe. One of the top hybrid app frameworks, apps can be written with
JavaScript, CSS3, HTML5 by developers. PhoneGap provides reliable cross-platform
compatibility with just one code for all platforms. This reduces the efforts of a developer
and makes it easier for him/her to progress. It’s quite cost-effective and a great choice if
apps need to be developed with budget-constraints. PhoneGap has some other worthy
features as well including greater access to Native APIs, strong backend support,
notable UI libraries that can upgrade the interface, and a lot more. Above all, it has
Adobe’s trust.

An interesting feature of PhoneGap is ‘Build’. Now, what is it? The build is its cloud
compiler that can compile apps even without any SDKs installed. With the PhoneGap
mobile development framework, a developer can mold a feature-heavy and fully
customized hybrid mobile app. These apps have the potential to reach out to a wider
audience in limited ways and function with total efficiency. PhoneGap’s best use can be
seen when a developer goes on to create mobile web apps that are not complex rather
easy to use and understand. And if there’s a cash crunch, what better than PhoneGap?
Thumbs Up
 Simple to learn
 It’s compatible with a single codebase for iOS, Android, and Windows 7
platforms
 Rugged backend system
 Extremely flexible as it supports HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3
 Taps into the system's hardware components like Camera, accelerometer,
navigation compass, etc without tampering with the design (UI) features.
 Rapid testing can be performed with ease
 Easily compatible with the plugin architecture
Thumbs Down
 Apps can be tentatively slower
 Popular mostly among smaller businesses
 Doesn’t support every functionality
 Shows signs of efficiency while working with native apps
 Fewer pre-built UI widgets
Website: https://phonegap.com/
5. Xamarin
Another best framework for mobile app development 2021 acquired by the software
giant Microsoft, Xamarin is one of the most intelligent frameworks used by developers. It
has been written using C# which is more modern and has improvements over Java and
Objective-C. But what makes Xamarin so unique that it has the means to include
libraries for Java, C++, and Objective-C directly. Xamarin’s assemblage of libraries is
huge. The framework reduces explicit cost and gives minimum budget hassles.
Where it gets interesting that Xamarin is often competing with React Native for the
topmost spot. It’s because developers are looking for creative ways to build hybrid apps
balancing both creativity and budget with equal proportions. Xamarin will surely answer
your question, “What is the best framework for mobile development?”.

Xamarin can be used to develop hybrid apps for iOS, Android, percent, and Windows.
It’s known to give an equal performance and UX of a native app. With their native UI
controls, Xamarin apps show absolute prowess. The Xamarin Mac tools is a recurring
name among hybrid app development tools. Interestingly, it’s known to follow the
WORA principle which expands to Write Once, Run Anytime. On Xamarin’s official
forum and also third party websites, it has a huge community and gets substantial
support too.

Setting up Xamarin is a piece of cake. Developers need to download the Xamarin

installer and run it. Once the installation is complete, they need to proceed with the
configuration where they have to provide the whereabouts of Android SDK and Java.
Once the procedure is complete, developers need to go to Xamarin Studio to create
their private accounts and follow the rules that are on display. Once done, this best
hybrid mobile app development framework is ready for usage.
Thumbs Up
 Native UI features
 More than 95 percent of the code is reusable for different platforms
 Apps connect brilliantly with hardware components via plugins without
hampering the device’s performance
 With Xamarin Studio, Xamarin SDKs, Xamarin Test Cloud, and Xamarin
Insights, it has its own fully developed ecosystem
 Wider learning opportunities
 Continuous performance without being unstable
 Easy API integration
 Spot on for cross-platform development
 Fast GUI prototyping
 Excellent code sharing and maintenance
Thumbs Down
 Highly expensive in comparison to any other mobile web app framework
 Not many developers know how to use Xamarin
 Platform-specific limitations in Android and iOS
 Overhead codes- unable to allow smooth integration
 Lag in API support
 Not ideal for game development
Website: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/apps/xamarin
6. NativeScript

For those who want their cross-platform apps to be coded in JavaScript, TypeScript, or
Angular, NativeScript is the best hybrid mobile framework. It allows users to access the
APIs for both iOS and Android devices. NativeScript apps are created using JavaScript
or any other programming language that transpile to javascript like TypeScript and
Angular.

The apps created in NativeScript are completely native that use the same APIs as used
in Xcode or Android studio. The apps can be integrated with this party library from
CocoaPods, Maven, and npm.js without the need for the wrapper. Another notable
feature is the use of reflection to handle native API endpoints. In place of requiring
separate binding layers between NativeScript and the mobile platform API, NativeScript
uses reflection to gain information and metadata about the native platform APIs. All the
features added to any native platform API can be used for ReactNative apps
immediately.

The introduction of NativeScript 2.0 has made use of Angular to build cross-platform
mobile applications possible. When you are using Angular with NativeScript you can
share large chunks of code between your mobile and web apps.

Thumbs up
 Executes fast
 Compiles down as a native code and runs as a native app
 Split custom content
 Support for Vue.js.
Thumbs down
 Bad documentation
 Examples have far too many unrealistic assumptions
 Misleading description of the environment.
Website: https://nativescript.org/

Conclusion
After going through  what is a hybrid mobile app framework? Well, it’s a real tough one
to pick the best framework for mobile app development 2021, IMHO. Picking one would
be impossible so it’s better to settle for two- Flutter and React Native. Flutter is new,
powerful, compatible with Fuchsia, and allows learning the new language Dart (It’s a
BIG thing). It also gives a single code base for iOS and Android. Flutter could likely be
the future of all frameworks. But then we also have the super-efficient React Native. It
makes coding an intriguing job for developers and making it easier for them to make
interactive apps. Moreover, it supports Node.Js and saves a lot of time and space. Both
Flutter and React Native have stockpiles of the best hybrid apps. We suggest you study
what the best mobile app development companies would use and suggest for your
case.

2.1 React Native
Created in 2013 by Facebook, React Native is one of the most widely
used frameworks around the world for not just cross-platform apps, but
also native apps.
It comes with a wealth of features and functionality, like code reusability,
native components and modules that can be “injected” into hybrid apps,
and it allows for a more native-like experience.

Another perk to using React Native is it’s huge community of developers

that offer support.

One downside is that it has a steeper learning curve than other

frameworks, so you’ll need an experienced team of developers to create
your hybrid app.

2.2 Xamarin
This is another popular framework, which shouldn’t come as a surprise
since it was created by Microsoft.
Xamarin uses C# on a .NET framework and is compatible with multiple
devices.

Developers prefer Xamarin because it allows for up to 95% of code

reusability and has a variety of cross-platform features that won’t affect
the app’s performance or user experience.

This framework has access to native toolkits and APIs that are used on
platforms like Android and iOS, which leads to a more native design and
experience.

2.3 Flutter
This is a framework by Google that allows developers to create visually
beautiful cross-platform apps.
It has flexible design components, interactive elements and widgets, and
supports multiple languages.
Flutter is also known for being fast, but your developers will need to know
the Dart programming language to use it.
2.4 Ionic
Ionic is an Angular-based framework with a rich collection of robust
features, UI components, and predefined elements.
It has debugging tools, a live reload system and a CLI that can
streamline the development cycle for your app.

It also has a large community of support.

PRO TIP:
Picking a framework with good support can make developing a hybrid
app much easier since you can find the answers you need when you
need it.
