Course Code Course Title L P U

EE404 Design of electrical systems 3 0 3

Scope & objective of the course: This course introduces the procedure for basic design of
electrical installations for domestic and industrial applications. And also it concentrate on
power system earthing for the protection of electrical devices which are generally used for
domestic and industries. This will enable the procedure to maintain the protective system.
The course also includes the power quality issues and power factor improvement for
domestic and industrial applications.
Course Outcome: After the completion of the course, the students will be able to:

 Acquire knowledge of fundamentals of electrical Installations like requirements, design

considerations, testing, estimating and costing.
 Acquire the knowledge of various schemes of illumination, ventilation, etc. and also
understand the Classification and Estimation of Load.
 Gather knowledge about the classification of industrial installations and different faults. They
will be able to design switch gear, electrical protection and control system.
 Understand the importance of earthing. They will be able to measure earth resistance and also
be able to design protection for earthing related faults.
 Know the issues related to power quality, their cause and be able to improve it.
