1. The document discusses a lesson on the human heart, including its structure and function. It describes how the heart has four chambers that pump blood through the body. 2. Students perform an activity using a model of the heart to demonstrate how it pumps water from a jar through straws and into a pan, similar to how the real heart pumps blood. 3. The post-activity discussion reviews that the heart is a hollow muscular organ located in the chest that functions as a double pump to circulate blood through two sides, each divided into upper and lower chambers.

A.1. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of how the different
structures of the circulatory and respiratory systems work together to
transport oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the different parts of the
body
A.2. Performance Standard
The learners should be able to conduct an information dissemination
activity on effective ways of taking care of the respiratory and
circulatory systems based on data gathered from the school or local
A.3. Concepts health workers

The heart is a hollow muscular organ, about the size of your fist,
which is located in the center of your chest between the lungs. It is a
double pump that pumps on the left and right sides.

Every side is divided into two chambers, the atrium and the
ventricle, each of which has left and right portion, totalling to four
chambers altogether. The top chamber is the atrium (plural: atria).
A.4. Process/Skills The bottom chamber is called the ventricle. The valve acts as oneway
door, allowing blood to flow either forward into the next chamber, or
out of the heart.

The Heart Pump Model

In your activity answer the guide questions

Q16. What does the water inside the jar represent?

- The water inside the jar represents the blood that is

pumped by the heart.

Q17. How will you compare the heart pump model and the human
heart?

- The heart pump model moves water from the jar through
the straws and into the pan. The heart pumps blood out
into the body through the arteries in a similar way.

Q18. How does the heart function as a pump?

- The heart is filled with blood which is squeezed out to

circulate through the whole body.

Q19. Will the heart model be able to function properly if the straw is
blocked? Explain your answer.

- No. The blood will not be pumped out of the heart into the
body because there is an obstruction.

The heart is a hollow muscular organ, about the size of your fist,
