PART 1. Find the definition of below terms.


Entailment, antonymy, ambiguity, metaphor, polysemy, Synonymy, hyponymy, Utterance,
Simile, Sentence, Homophones, Homonyms, Homograph, Denotation, Connotation,
Presupposition, Irony, Personification, Metonymy, Hyperbole, Litotes, Euphenism.
1. something that logically follows from what is asserted in the utterance.
2. the relation two linguistic forms (for example, lexemes) have when they mean the same
3.The property a lexeme has when it has a number of closely related meanings.
4. The property a linguistic form has it when it has two clearly distinct meanings
5. The relation that holds between two words when they have opposite (?!) meanings.
6. the state that show the relationship between more general term and the more specific instances
of it.
7. is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but
helps explain an idea or make a comparison

people’s emotion.
16. the subsittution of the name of one thing for that of another to which it is related with which
it is associated.
17. an overstatement, is the use of exaggerated statement that is made for special effect.
18. the use of pleasant, mild or indirect words or phrase in place of mỏe accurate or direct ones.
19. the use of deliberately gentler, milder or weaker statements to express something in a
controlled way.
20. the expression of one’s meaning by saying direct opposite of one’s thoughts in order to be
emphatic, amusing.
21. a special kind of metaphor in which some human characteristic is attributed to an inanimated
obkect or abstract notion.
22. something the speaker asumes to be the case prior to making an utterance.
