LEARNING OUTCOMES
This assignment requires you to examine and analyse several areas of study within the
Module. You are expected to demonstrate and will be evaluated on the following
outcomes.

1. Analyse the relationship between business ethics, law, morality, cultural norms
and personal conscience.
2. Apply the different theories and frameworks learned in this module to solve
ethical dilemmas and support ethical arguments.
3. Evaluate the effects of different ethical issues across the business spectrum on
the operation and decision-making of business corporations.
4. Evaluate the arguments for and against the incorporation of corporate social
responsibility (CSR) into the business operation, models and strategies.
5. Engage in critical discussions with other people, consider their different views
and make presentation of their arguments.

You should begin thinking about the assignment early in the course.

A QUESTION
Choose ONE (1) company that implementing Artificial Intelligence
1. Investigate whether the selected company was involved in any unethical
business practices/ scandals (year 2012 and above) and explain how it affected
the firm’s stakeholders.
2. Critically discuss the company’s policy, code of ethics provisions, and/or
existing laws regarding any unethical business practice.
3. Suggest some alternative courses of action that the company should have taken
to deal with the unethical business practices/scandals. You should be able to
support your suggestions based on some ethical reasoning or ethical theories.

B THE REQUIREMENTS
A written essay of approximately 2,500 words addressing the issues as stated above.

The assignment must adhere to standard academic documentation standards:


 Please use appropriate citations and references according to the Harvard
Referencing System in order to avoid plagiarism.
 Font type should be Times New Roman.
 Font size should be 12 pts.
 Vertical/line spacing should be 1.5 line spacing.
 You must use enough of your own words to convince that you understand what
you are writing and are not just “cut and paste”. Overall your own words should
be no less than 80% of the total word count.
 You should on no account make reference to www.wikipedia.com,
www.about.com, www.alibaba.com or the likes as sources for your work.
These websites can be useful to provide you with the definitions and the general
ideas about the concepts within the module but it is not acceptable to be inserted
into your academic writing.
 You may include diagrams, figures, tables etc without word penalty.
 You are required to use at least 10 references with 50% of them from relevant
textbooks, magazines and academic journals.
 A sliding scale of penalties for excess length will be imposed according to the
amount by which the limit has been exceeded. Your word count must be
indicated on your cover page.
For limit excess:
11 – 20% 10% reduction in the mark
21 – 30% 25% reduction in the mark
31% + The work will be capped at a pass i.e. 50%

Point to note: Maximum penalty for exceeding the word limit will be a reduction
to a PASS grade.

Table of contents
The table of contents should follow the title page. It must list the Roman numeral
sections and the page on which each section starts. The table of contents may be one or

Body of the Write Up


The body of the write up begins with Introduction and continues in the sequence
outlined above. The first page of the body is numbered 1 and all following pages are
numbered in sequence. The numbered pages continue through references.

**The report writing will contribute 40%, individual presentation 20% and the
final exam will contribute 40% to the assessment of this Module.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

75% and aboveThis would be equivalent to a Distinction and would represent


outstanding performance. The work should show a thorough
understanding of the issue together with a high degree of analysis and
critical evaluation.

65% – 74% This will be equivalent to a Credit. This would represent extremely
good work demonstrating an in depth understanding of material and
sound analysis and conclusions.

50 – 64% This would be equivalent to a Pass. Work in this category should


demonstrate good application of the main principles to the question set
and provide a well-balanced view.

0% – 49% This would represent a failure to pass demonstrating a poor command


of the knowledge of subject area combined with an inability to interpret
the question.
