(i) at least one white ball is selected, (ii) at least two white balls are selected.
2) Letters of the word “EQUATION” are rearranged at random. Find the probability that an arrangement will
(i) start and end with a vowel, (ii) start with a vowel and end with a consonant.

3) If 𝑃(𝐴) = 0.6, 𝑃(𝐵) = 0.7, 𝑃(𝐴 ∩ 𝐵) = 0.4, find (𝑖) 𝑃(𝐴 ∪ 𝐵), (𝑖𝑖) 𝑃(𝐴𝐶 ∪ 𝐵𝐶 ), (𝑖𝑖𝑖) 𝑃(𝐴𝐶 ∩ 𝐵),
(𝑖𝑣) 𝑃(𝐴|𝐵𝐶 ), (𝑣) 𝑃(𝐵|𝐴)
4) A fair dice is rolled twice and the results are recorded as (𝑥, 𝑦). If 𝐴 = {(𝑥, 𝑦): 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 10} and
𝐵 = {(𝑥, 𝑦): 𝑥 > 𝑦}. Find 𝑃(𝐵|𝐴), 𝑃(𝐴|𝐵).
5) A box contains 5 red and 7 blue balls. Another box contains 3 red and 12 blue balls. One ball is taken out
randomly from the first box and is put into the second box. Now a ball is drawn from the second box. What
is the probability that this ball is red?
6) A box contains 3 biased coins A, B and C. The probability that a head will result when A is tossed is 1/3,
when B is tossed, it is 2/3 and when C is tossed, it is 3/4.
(i) If one of the coins is chosen at random and is tossed 3 times, head resulted twice and tail once. What is
the probability that the coin chosen was A?
(ii) What is the probability of getting head when a coin selected at random is tossed once?
7) Three factories A, B, C produce 30%, 50% and 20% of the total production of an item. Out of their
production 80%, 50% and 10% are defective. An item is chosen at random and found to be defective. Find
the probability that it was produced by factory A.
8) The probability distribution of a discrete random variable X is

𝑋 0 1 2 3 4 5 6
𝑃(𝑋 = 𝑥) 𝑘 3𝑘 5𝑘 7𝑘 9𝑘 11𝑘 13𝑘

Find (𝑖) 𝑘 , (𝑖𝑖) 𝑃(𝑋 < 4) , (𝑖𝑖𝑖) 𝑃(𝑋 > 4 | 𝑋 > 2) , (𝑖𝑣) 𝐶𝑢𝑚𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑏𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛

9) A continuous random variable X has the probability density function

3𝑒 −3𝑥 ; 𝑥>0
𝑓(𝑥) = {
0 ; 𝑥≤0
Find 𝑃(1 ≤ 𝑋 ≤ 3), 𝑃(𝑋 > 0.5)
10) A, B and C toss a fair coin in that order. The first one to throw a head wins the game and gets Rs 28. Find
expected money earned by each of them.

11) A box contains 2n tickets of which nCr tickets bear the number r (r = 0,1,2,....,n). A group of m tickets is
drawn. What is the expectation of the sum of their numbers?
12) Find mean and variance of the following probability distribution

X -1 0 2 4 5 8 9
P(X = x) 0.1 0.1 0.25 0.25 0.2 0.05 0.05
