OPENING: ANGELICA JOY GATDULA

Good morning, everyone we are the Group 6 from Section 7. Before we start to the main agenda for
today, let us all feel the presence of our dear creator by starting with a prayer to be led by one of our
researchers, Ms. Jenefer Belasio.

PRAYER: JENEFER BELASIO

Now, we would like to welcome our dear panel. We have Mr/Ms. _____, Ms/Mr. _____ and lastly
Ms/Mr. _____. We would also like to acknowledge the presence of our Nursing Research Professor, Prof.
Sharon Cajayon.

Now we will proceed with the main agenda for today by introducing the contents of our presentation. We
have the introduction wherein we will share the brief explanation of our research title. Next to that we
have the theoretical framework. Then we have the discussion of the variables, research question, research
design, research locale and its population. We also have the research ethics and the presentation of how
we collected the data needed for the study. Next is the research instrument and lastly our research
analysis. All of this are going to be presented by Ms. Angelica Joy Gatdula and Ms. Angelique Jane
Gatdula.
Let us not wait any longer, we have Ms. Angelica Joy Gatdula for our Introduction.

SLIDE 1 ANGELICA JOY GATDULA

So again Good-morning panel and instructors, as for this oral defense we will be presenting the nurses
perception towards the current administration.

SLIDE 2

So, pulse Asia's 2020 Ulat ng Bayan Survey said 84 percent of Filipinos approved the work done by the
Duterte administration to control the spread of Covid-19 and to provide assistance to those who lost their
livelihood or job due to the pandemic. However, according to Parocha (2021), secondary polls and data
doesn’t agree with this.

SLIDE 3

The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization
on March 11, 2020. It may follow the influenza pandemic of 1918 in magnitude which affected about
one-third of the world population and killed 50 million. To date, severe acute respiratory syndrome
coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19 disease, has affected 213 countries and
territories around the world with 14 million cases and half a million deaths (WHO, 2020). Control efforts
worldwide led to travel bans and restrictions. In the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte placed the
entire Luzon archipelago on enhanced community quarantine on March 16, 2020 (Official Gazette, 2020).
Curfew, check-points and travel restrictions were implemented (PCOO, 2020; Yap and Jiao, 2020).
Business and school activities were suspended indefinitely. People were forced to stay in their homes
which results to anxiety and depression not just those who stay in their homes but especially the nurses
who works under pressure.

Knowledge, attitude, and behavior (KAB), also found in literature as knowledge-attitude-practice (KAP),
is an important theoretical model of health education, which asserts that behavior change is affected by
knowledge and attitude. This model implies to be appropriate for the study. The KAB model proposes
that behavior changes gradually. As knowledge accumulates in a health behavior domain, changes in
attitude are initiated. Over some period of time, changes in attitude accumulate, resulting in behavioral
change. This model assumes that a person is rational and has been called the Theory of Enlightened Self-
Interest. There has been substantial concern, however, that most people in most situations do not exhibit
what would be considered objectively “rational” behavior. Attitudes could influence all the decisions in
the any events such as getting annoyed on responses we cannot control; therefore the nurses might change
in behavior when pressure comes from the working environment because he/she is not satisfied with the
government’s response.

SLIDE 5

As for the variables, COVID-19 awareness, government response, nurses’ perception, sense of motivation
and nurse’s workplace experience amid COVID-19 pandemic were the indicators assessed by the
researcher (us) in order to categorized the relationships among variables. The government response can
gradually affect nurses or any healthcare workers perception on how the administration and the citizens
value the aid of the pandemic. Negative perception of nurses on the government is hypothesized to affect
their performance and motivation as a healthcare worker who’s working 9-12 hrs a day. These variables
play an important role in determining causal comparison of emergence among health institutions.

SLIDE 6

As for the research questions, we formulated only two broad questions to elaborate the secondary data
discussion or results of the study which will be assessed by a conventional content analysis method.

For ethical reasons, letters will be provided to seek out permission from these key informants and
subjects. Overall, the respondent's participation in the study will be voluntary and approved by the
authority. To protect the respondent's confidentiality, the researcher will assess the disclosure of the
participant's information ethically. The study will only include questions that are critical for evaluating
the results to publish sufficient data.
SLIDE 13

Research questionnaires will undergo a construct and internal validity to ensure that the research
questions are unbiased and unreliable.

SLIDE 14

The researchers will use conceptual analysis of content analysis to provide factual data about the
perceptions without numeric parameters. This approach can be thought of as establishing the existence
and frequency of concepts in a text.

SLIDE 15

SLIDE 16

Again, this research aims to give the readers and beneficiaries a broad perception of how political and
incompetence can affect someone’s perception of how to do their work negatively. If you have any
questions, you’re free to ask. Thank you!

1. What is your research title?

 Nurses Perception towards the Current Administration
2. What are the goals of your study?

 Our objectives are (1) to assess the different challenges that they are facing in preparation
for the board exam, (2) to assess the level of competency and readiness of nursing
students who will take the board exam during the pandemic (3) to elicit the opinion of the
senior nurses on how the pandemic affects their quality of review and preparation.
3. Why does your group come up with the locale of your study?

 This study is decided to be conducted in Valenzuela to have a wider scope in choosing the
participants. As we are studying in OLFU, we think that it is best to have respondents from
specific Medical Center in Valenzuela City so that we can have a more accurate and clearer
picture of how they deal with the Current Administration. Having a bigger range of
respondents will also help us understand more that every perception of the Nurses is different
with one another. As nursing students, we believe that it is the best location for respondents
because it is close to where the researcher will conduct the study.

4. What are the implications of your study?

 This study will be very helpful not only to the Nurses but also to every nursing student who
are currently studying and soon will be nurses. It will give us a better understanding and an
idea on how to cope up and stay on focused while preparing during this time of pandemic.

5. What are the challenges that the group might face during the data collection?

 Challenges that the group faces during data collection include the fact that, because the
institution already has a limited number of face-to-face classes, their time is consumed by
both online classes and their limited face-to-face classes, which involve related learning
experiences. Furthermore, some of the members were working at inconvenient times,
resulting in insufficient time for the meeting.
6. Do you think your theoretical framework is inclined with your study?

 Yes, KAB is relevant to our . It is a theory that contends that student nurses' attitudes
toward COVID-19 were influenced by their knowledge and information about it, and
their attitudes in turn influenced their behavior or actions. The purpose of this study is to
assess nursing students' perceptions, knowledge, and behavior regarding the
administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
7. Is your research question acquired from the journal?
• (30 item question) Our questions are based on a predictive and explorative type of question
where we inquire more about the topic to understand more and find out their insights in this
certain topic extensively.
• (Main question: What typifies the nurses' perception on the COVID-19 response of the
current administration?
Yes, we acquired the research question on the journal. We decided to use this because it is related
and it is well established question which is already checked by experts in the field of research.
8. Why purposive sampling?
• We chose purposive sampling because we only select participants who are willing and can
provide an in-depth interview for our study and at the same time a detailed and concise
information about the phenomenon of the study.
8. What is phenomenological design in research?
• In the research study, we use phenomenological as our research design in which
phenomenological design focuses on lived experiences of an individual about a phenomenon
which is basically described by the participants and the main source of it is through in-depth
conversations which will be use when we are going to conduct our interview for the next
semester.
8. Why is it qualitative?
 This study aimed to explore nurses perception to gain access to understanding of the
meaning of experience for an individual and to observed phenomena relative to meanings
attiributed by the Nurses involves in the Current administration while experiencing
COVID 19 pandemic.
