Lesson Plan Math 9

The document outlines a lesson plan for teaching students the mid-segment theorem on trapezoids. It includes objectives to prove and apply the theorem, references materials, and a procedure of greeting students, reviewing trapezoids, presenting the theorem through an activity, proving the theorem, relating it to real life, generalizing the lesson, evaluating students, and assigning homework questions and an activity.

A Semi Detailed Plan in MATH 9

November 20, 2018 (Tuesday)

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of 60 minutes, the students are expected to prove and apply the
mid-segment theorem on a trapezoid.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic/Lesson: Mid-segment Theorem on Trapezoid

References: Mathematics 9 Learner’s Materials
Teacher’s Guide pages. 217-218
Learner’s Materials pages. 330-331
Curriculum Guide M9GE-IIId-2

Materials: Power Point Presentation, Straightedge, Chalk, Chalkboard, Show Me

Card, Felt tip Pen, Tarpapel
Values Integration: Fairness

III. PROCEDURES:

A. Greetings:

Good Morning Grade 9 Mango! May I know from the attendance officer who’s
in/out today?

B. Review:

Recall the definition of a trapezoid and its parts. They must be able to identify
the base, legs, and base angles of a trapezoid.

C. Presentation of the Lesson:

The teacher will present to the students the mid-segment theorem on

trapezoid using Activity 13 What a Trap found on LM page 332 and answer the
questions that follow. (The activity will help them discover theorem about the
median of a trapezoid.)

D. Development of the Lesson:

Let them state orally Theorem 6. The median of a trapezoid is parallel to each
base and its length is one half the sum of the lengths of the bases.

Guide students in doing the Show Me activity to prove Theorem 6.

After the proving activity, conduct drill exercises regarding the application of
the theorem in the given illustrations (Group Activity in the form of a Game for
mastery of the theorem stated/presented to them)
E. Relate the importance of the median theorem of Trapezoid in real life situations.
(Infuse Values on this part)

F. Generalization of the Lesson

As a synthesis on the lesson learned, let them state orally THEOREM 6.

IV. EVALUATION:

V. ASSIGNMENT:

Answer the questions

1. What if the legs of a trapezoid become congruent?
2. What must be true about its base angles and its diagonals?
By doing Activity 14: Watch Out! Another Trap! as their homework.
