Quarter 1 – Module 2:
The Circle
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Pre-Calculus– Grade 11 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module
on The Circle!
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators
both from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in
helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while
overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their
needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:
Notes to the Teacher
This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:
Welcome to the Pre-Calculus – Grade 11 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module
on The Circle!
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used
to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and
accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner
is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and
skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities
for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled
to process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

inspection, identify the coordinates of the center and the radius.
1. 2. 3.
4. 5. 6.
9
B. Write if the statement describes a circle. Write X if it is not.
1. It is formed by set of points which is equidistant from a fixed point.
2. The name of the circle is the center of the same circle.
3. The radius is the line on the circle whose endpoints are the center and anypoint
on the circle.
4. There are 4 parts of the circle.
5. The degree measure of any circle is 360o.
6. All radius of the same circle are equal.
7. Tangent can intersect the circle at two points.
8. Secant intersects any circle at exactly two points.
9. A chord always contain a diameter.
What is It
A Circle is the set of all points that are equidistant from a fixed line called the
center of the circle and the distance r called the radius of the circle. The set of points,
which is the distance around the circle is the Circumference of the circle. The line
segment in the circle whose endpoints are on the circle is the Chord. The chord that
passes through the center is called diameter. A secant is a line that intersects the
circle at exactly two points. It always contains the chord. The line that touches the
circle at exactly one point is called a tangent. Tangent is always perpendicular to
radius. The point of intersection of the tangent and the circle is the point of tangency.

At the figure, the center of the figure is E
point M. U
The chords of the given figure are XF and
ED . Line segment ED is also considered
as diameter since it passes through the O M
center. The radii (plural of radius) of circle
M are MY, EM and MD. Line OR is the
secant of the circle and line i is the tangent
of the circle. Point U is the point of X
tangency.
