Practice Cha
Scenario
You have been asked to organise the faculty students-database file.
* Go to the Students-database sheet, create Named Ranges for the columns and convert it to a table.
* Create lookup lists for Campus, Nationality, Course and Total Grade in the Lists sheet, assign Named Ranges to the Nationality, Course and Total Grade lists. Convert the Na
* Find directions in the Yellow Cells
* Find the cells that already contain Data Validation. If there are any unwanted Data validated cell/cells, remove the data validation from the cell
You will need to complete the following tasks on the Students-database and Lists sheets.
1 Validate the Student number column to avoid duplicated student numbers. Create a Stop Error Alert with the message: Duplicate data is not valid.
2 Make a drop-down list for Campus, using Cell address and lookup lists
3 Make a drop-down list for Nationality column, using Named Ranges and lookup lists
4 Make a drop-down list for Course, using Named Ranges and lookup lists
5 Validate Gender column by typing the list of options, add an Information Error Alert to let the user enter any other Gender
6 Validate Attendance Percentage (Current Semester) column to have a Decimal number between 0 to 1
7 Validate the birth year, making sure not to have the students less than 16 years old (Hint: look at the functions YEAR and TODAY). Use a Warning Error Alert
8 Validate to have the first Enrolment Date not to be more than Today. Using Conditional Formatting highlight the first year students
9 Validate the Number of Units Enrolled (Current Semester) to have between numbers zero and 5
10 Validate the Number of Units Failed (Current Semester) to have less than or equal to the number of units enrolled
11 Validate the Total Number of units enrolled to have less than 30 units
12 Validate the Average Total Marks out of 100 to be between 0 and 100
13 Make a drop-down list for the Total Grade column, using Named Ranges and lookup lists. Add an Input Message: Less than 50: Fail, 50 to 65: Pass, 65 to 75: Cred
14 Copy the Campus drop-down list to cell S9
15 In cell T9 create a function to count the number of students for the selected campus
16 Copy the Course drop-down list to cell S16
17 In cell T16 create a function to count the number of students for the selected course
18 Copy the Course drop-down list to cell T24
19 Copy the Total Grade drop-down list to cell U24
20 In cell S25, combine text with the values in cells T24 and U24 to change the text for different courses and grades
For example, if T24 contains Business and U24 contains Credit, S25 should read Number of Business students with a Credit grade
21 In cell U25, calculate the value of the above statement
22 In cell S35, create Drop-down list for Course
23 In cell S36, create Drop-down list for Campus
24 In cell S34, combine text with the values in cells S35 and S36 to change the text for different courses and campuses
For example, if S35 contains Marketing and S36 contains Brisbane, S34 should read Total payments of Brisbane/Marketing students
25 In cell T34, calculate the value of the above statement
26 Check for any invalid data and fix them
27 Go to Lists sheet and add Iranian Nationality and check if it is added to Drop-down list
28 Add a new student to the end of the table with student number of S-140712 to check the cell validation
29 Add a new student to the end of the table with the details M-140713, Benita Soheil, Melbourne, Iranian, Accounting, Female to check if all validations extended
30 Using Advanced Conditional Formatting and cell S9, highlight the entire row of the students at the same Campus
Well done! Don't forget to save your workbook.
