Tle - Grade 6 - Ict - Module 3

This document discusses selling products based on the needs and demands in the school and community. It defines selling as the exchange of money or something of monetary value for goods and services provided by entrepreneurs. Needs are things required for survival, while demands refer to the amount of interest consumers have in a product at a given time. An entrepreneur must identify customer needs and demands to determine which products to offer. Popular products may change depending on the situation, like increased demand for protective items during the COVID-19 pandemic. To be successful, entrepreneurs should identify, satisfy, and retain customers by offering the right products to the right people.

Guide Card

Hello, friends. I will serve as your teacher today and we

will study about selling products based on the needs and
demands of the school and community. You listen because as
our lesson continues, I will ask some questions about these
things.

Selling is the first and foremost transaction between the seller and the
prospective buyer or buyers (the target market) or money or something considered
to have monetary value is exchanged for goods and services which are provided by
entrepreneurs to consumers.

Needs are the things needed for survival while demands are the amount of
interests to a given products that consumers are willing to buy at a given time at a
given period. Needs and demands must be determined in selling products since they
are part of basic marketing principles. A product can be differentiated on the basis of
whether it satisfies a customers’ needs, wants, or demands which are very important
component of marketing or selling because they help the seller decide the products
which he needs to offer in the market.

. Some of the products and services being consumed today are different from
those that were being consumed five years ago. The existing needs and demands of
the customers depends upon the seasons and the kind of situation that the community
faces. Nowadays, where people fight against the COVID-19 pandemic need more
products which will help in the prevention of such virus.
To ensure that entrepreneurs will be successful in selling products, he should
exert extra effort to know, satisfy, and retain their customers.

1. IDENTIFY · Understand customer needs, wants, and

CUSTOMERS demands.
· Identify whom to target and how to use them.

· Make the right product or service available to

the right people at the right time.
2. SATISFY
· Make everyone feel better from the exchange
CUSTOMERS
of product or service.

3. RETAIN
· Give customers a reason to keep coming back.
CUSTOMERS
· Find new opportunities to win their business.

For a product or service to succeed, it must be the right product, being sold at
the right time, to the right customer, in the right market. It must be produced and sold
by the right company and the right people. This can only be done if the entrepreneur
sells products based on the needs and demand of his customers whether in school or
community.

3
You know friends that there are different products that can
be sold in the school and community. We will study them. Are
you ready to pay attention?

Yes, Doraemon, we will listen attentively.

These are some examples of products that can be sold in school based on the
needs and demands of the learners aside from the supplies needed by them.

There are products sold outside the school such as street foods which are
patronized not only by learners but people in the community as well. However, these
products may not be as saleable as before because of the fear on the pandemic
where people are required to stay home and need to practice social distancing. For
these reasons, the needs and demands of people on some products for the
prevention of the COVID-19 are high. These products are face masks, face shields,
and disinfectants like alcohol, hand sanitizers, germicidal soaps, bleach, and the like
which help people fight the virus that is so alarming and causing fear and suffering all
over the world.
The needs and demands are very important component of selling products
because they help the entrepreneur decide the products which he needs to offer to
the customers. Needs and demands of the people depends upon the season,
occasion, and situation being faced by potential customers. After knowing or
identifying the needs and demands in the school and community, the entrepreneur
must have an effective marketing strategy to sell his products. An entrepreneur must
also remember how to keep the cost down while maintaining the quality of the
product, safety, and satisfaction of customers is prioritized.

Review

Let’s have a recap of our previous lesson. What is the

difference between needs and wants? Yes, Sizhuka?

That is so easy! Needs are basic necessities of people

such as food, clothing, and shelter while wants are goods that
people desire or wish to have but we can still survive without
them.

Very good, Sizhuka. And now Gian, will you differentiate a

product from services.

A product is something that is manufactured following a

process or grown and nurtured in order to be sold for profit
whereas a service is a facility supplying a public market
demand, or an action that someone does to help others.

Amazing! Gian! Now enumerate Maslow’s hierarchy of

needs which the entrepreneur should consider in buying and
selling products. Your turn, Novita.

Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs are:

1. Basic needs- These includes Physiological and Safety Needs.
Physiological needs include food, clothing, shelter and homeostasis
(refers to stability, balance, or equilibrium). Security Needs include
education, employment, and health which must be prioritized
especially during this pandemic amidst COVID-19 to ensure the
protection and safety of everyone.
2. Psychological needs- These include Love/Belonging Needs or
Social Needs and Esteem Needs. The Social Needs in Maslow’s
hierarchy include such things as love, acceptance, and belonging,
which can be given by family, friends, and love ones. Esteem needs
include accomplishments, self-worth, recognition, and other things
given to appreciate efforts done.
3. Self-fulfilment needs– Self-actualization needs include the
realization of full potential, looking for personal growth, creativity,
peak experiences, and fulfilment of self.
have been fulfilled.

: The different kinds of needs and demands can serve as

basis in selling products because entrepreneurs can provide what
is appropriate. However, needs and demands depend on the
season, occasion, or situation faced by the customers.

Activity Card

ACTIVITY 1
DO’S OR DON’TS’
Put a if the statement should be done in selling products and if not.

1. Understand customer needs, wants, and demands

in selling products.

2. Make the right product or service available to the right

people at the right time.

3. Give customers a reason to keep coming back by

providing them their needs and demands.

4. Prioritize the profit you will gain rather than the

satisfaction of your customers.

5. Providing quality products at a low cost where

customers will benefit and at the same time entrepreneurs
get the target profit.

ACTIVITY 2
YES OR NO
B. Write YES in the shapes below each picture if the following products sold are based
on the needs and demands of the people in the school or community and NO if not.

Nice try Friends, if you did not get the correct answers, don’t
be sad, anyway as we continue with our discussion, you will discover
why you’re wrong and I’m sure you will improve in the next activities.

7
Discussion of Activity

Hello Friends, let us discuss

some important points regarding
the activity you just did.

Since needs and demands of the people in the school and

community are considered, in Activity 1, letter A, you were asked
to write whether the statements should be done by entrepreneurs
in selling products or not. All the items, except item number 4, must
be done. First is understanding customer needs, wants, and
demands is a must before selling products. Second is making the
right product or service available to the right people at the right
time. Third is giving customers a reason to keep coming back by
providing them their needs and demands. And fourth is providing
quality products at a low cost where customers will benefit and at
the same time entrepreneurs get the target profit. Item number
four which states about prioritizing the profit gained rather than the
satisfaction of the customers is not a good practice for
entrepreneurs because in selling, customers satisfaction must be
the primary concern to make any business successful. Did you get
the correct answers , Gian?

I got one mistake , Doraemon, my answer in number 4 is

a happy face because I thought that gaining profit is more
important than the satisfaction of customers. Oh my!

In Activity 2, school supplies and hand sanitizer can be

used in school and also in the community especially in this
pandemic. The groceries or canned goods and the fishes are
also saleable because these are basic needs of people. The
cars are not saleable because only people who are well-off can
afford these expensive vehicles. The different gadgets such as
cellphones, tablets and other communication devices maybe
considered as need, depending on the purpose. If the purpose
is for communication or other important matters. If the purpose is
for pleasure or satisfying oneself of having the latest model, then
it can be considered as wants.

8
Well Friends, once the entrepreneur already identified the
existing needs and demands of the customers, he must
consider these things before selling his products:
Marketability, Quality, Price, Packaging, and Profit.

Selling cheap products of low quality is a big no.

Imitation and Piracy are also some bad practices that must
be avoided by an entrepreneur because these things may
ruin any business.
Now, let me ask you Suneo, how do you buy the
products you need?

Well, before we used to buy from the groceries

and mall, this time we order from Shopee or Lazada.

Very well said, Suneo. Those that you have mentioned are
related to what I will explain .

To reach out different customers there are some ways to sell the
products as follows:
1. Selling from a store– customers go to these establishments to
purchase the needed products.

2. House to house selling– sellers go directly to the houses of

customers to sell their products.
3. On-line selling– this is the most popular nowadays and
considered as the safest way to buy products since we are
fighting a battle against COVID-19 because customers don't
need to go to the market personally. Lazada and Shopee are
examples. They will just choose among the products posted in
social media like Facebook, Instagram, or online selling app
and place their order to be delivered in their homes usually on
a cash-on-delivery basis.

Take note of the important information we have discussed

because several activities will follow which will test your
understanding of the discussion. Goodluck, Friends.

Reflection Card

Generalization
Aside from needs for our survival, selling products are also based on demand in
the school and community.
Demand is determined by how consumers are willing to spend a certain price
on a particular goods and service. Demand is the total of what everyone within a
specific groups of people desire and can help entrepreneurs achieve the targeted
results which are customers’ satisfaction and earning the desired profit.
In selling products, existing needs and demands of the people in the school or
