I. Course Description:

Environmental sciences is interdisciplinary and it embraces a wide variety of topics from


different areas of study. There are several major unifying constructs, or themes, that cut
across the many topics of business studies included in the investigation of Environmental
Sciences.
The goal of Environmental Sciences course is to provide students with the scientific
principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of
the natural world with business activities; to identify and analyze environmental problems
both natural and anthropogenic; to evaluate the relative risks associated with these
problems; to examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing these problems;
and recognize the adaption to eco-friendly business processes lead to reduce adverse
environmental effects and preserve natural resources.
The natural systems changes over time and space. The population growth, latest
technology, industrialization, urbanization and other manmade activities have increased
rate of their impact on the environment with greater magnitude.
Understanding the role of economic, legal, social, and political factors is vital for the
development of feasible environmental solutions. Management of common resources is
essential as human survival depends on developing practices that will achieve sustainable
systems. A suitable combination of resource conservation, legal compliance and
progressive advancements is required for a sustainable development.

X. Class Participation Rules:

 To assess physical presence attendance will be taken.


 Classes start on time. Being late by more than 15 minutes will count as an absence.
 If you have documentable circumstances such as illness or grave personal difficulties,
contact the BBA Program Office for any further processing.
 Be present mentally as well, to allow the rest of the class to benefit from your
engagement and thoughtful insights. Speak up and become part of the conversation.
 Grading this aspect of class participation is necessarily subjective. Some of the
criteria for evaluating class participation include:
1. Level of Preparedness – Do the comments reflect evidence of deep case analysis
rather than repeating facts
2. Relevancy to the discussion –Do your comments move the discussion forward or
hinder class progress?
3. Affectivity of Communication – The thoughts are presented in a concise and
convincing fashion
4. Quality will be evaluated and not the quantity.
 Cell phones and iPads (tablets) and other technology are not permitted during class
(permitted only in exceptional lectures to train and encourage against excessive paper
wastage and environmental concerns).
 Respect for everyone’s opinion will be upheld to ensure a free learning environment.
 ‘Out of the box’ ideas will be encouraged and developed upon in class, in the spirit of
promoting alternative thought patterns.

XI. Consultation Protocol:

All relevant inquiries will be encouraged and it is highly advisable to ask them during
lecture or consultation time. However, if any query is missed during those times, please
ask via email and/or SMS. Consultation hours are as follows:

Monday to Thursday (02:00 pm to 04:00 pm)


Friday (11:00 am to 01:00 pm)

XII. Final Industrial Project:

The research project is a written paper assignment that should be a minimum of 10 to 12


pages, plus supporting material, and preferably no more than 12 pages (All papers in MS
Word 1.5 space, 12 Font size format).

A suggested topic is as follows:

Students will be allowed to select any Industry. They will give an in-depth analysis of
the Industry and address these basic points in the Industrial Project Report:
a) What kind of Environmental Strategies are implemented in the concerned industry?
b) Have they developed any Eco-labels and following ISO 14001:2015 standard?
c) What kind of Economic benefits they are getting in return of these?

XIII. Plagiarism Policy:

LBS has a strict plagiarism policy to discourage all its forms. If found involved, strict
disciplinary actions and exemplary punishments are exercised in accordance with the
LBS plagiarism policy and HEC guidelines. For detail, please refer to exam policy.
Academic offenses like cheating, plagiarism, etc., in any form or type, weaken the
